hermann got a harmonium.......2005-10-14
hermann got a harmonium. hermann played his harmonium. herman became so enthralled with the long notes he could play on the harmonium, and all the drones and frequency shifts he could create with them, that he recorded a whole bunch of arrangements, live at his home. now someone has compiled these drones onto cds such as this one. it's supposed to be a series of ten double-cd sets (right, 20 discs of this), but they've only done three sets so far. this is the second one.
i really can't explain it much more than i already have. each track is about half a disc, and consists of several pieces that are notes held for a long time on a harmonium. played together they set up interesting tonalities and frequencies. it's pretty simple.
most will find this boring and wish they'd never bought the damn thing. me, i find it alternately relaxing and engaging. it's pretty solid, non-abrasive droning, so it works well as background music, but i've also used it to keep myself awake driving late at night. i like it. maybe you will too.
