This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

Friends gave us one of these CD's years ago. We thought it made for great listening pleasure then and still do. I like it so much, I needed to get one to exercise to, and be able to keep the original gift in my car. I just love what the Ned Nash Orchestra does to these famous tunes. My favorite is Johnny Guitar. It is so hauntingly beautiful.

This CD sounds great to me. I love the old spaghetti Western themes and I play this one in my CD player while I'm on the internet. It's great for the price. It has most of my favorites on one CD.

The people ragging on this CD must be opera snobs or something. Music is music, and the tunes on the CD are well done. Of course I have the most eclectic taste in music of anyone I know. I'll probably be listening to Irish drinking songs next or Buddhist Chants:D

The orchestra was small and the instrumention poor. Most of the pieces were short in comparison to the original movie scores, and tempos of some of the pieces were so different from the original movie scores that it made listening frustrating.

We ordered the cd for background music for a saloon party we were having. It was a huge hit with everyone. I would recommend it for Western Movie buffs.

If you are a fan of the movie Rio Bravo, and what you are looking for is the songs you heard, as you heard them in the movie, then stay away from this product. I didn't listen to the other reviewers, thinking it couldn't be that bad. I was wrong. The difference between these versions and the movie tracks is so pronounced that it is very upsetting. I only listen to the tracks from other westerns. Those at least have some value.

Caveat Emptor. Take it from Bronco Bill, this is not the original music you're looking for. They are all remakes, and like Bronco Bill said Ricky Nelson is missing from the Dean Martin track. Nice art work, but misleading. C'mon now, anyone who knows RAWHIDE, knows Sheb Wooley (the purple people-eater guy) didn't do the Rawhide theme. What you want is out there, it's just hard to find.

Don't let the cover of this CD fool you, in my opinion using
John Wayne and Ricky Nelson on the Cover is a ploy by Bear Family Records of Germany to get the lovers of Great Western
Music to buy it. I am a western re-enactor and use "good" western music for backround. I own many CD's that I bought from
Amazon, My Rifle Pony and Me, The Alamo, Rio Grande, Way Out West,and The Wild West just to name a few. Rio Brovo is got to
be the worst. The first selection with Dean Martin, My Rifle, My Pony and me is the Studio Version, not the duet with Rick Nelson, it is good, but it is not the original we are used to. As far as the rest of the selections, it was a bad choice by the recording company.The high price for the CD was not worth it,It would be a good buy for about $2.98, then you can swap with somebody for a better CD.........

    These are not the original music soundtracks.For this being a remake it isn't bad and I do enjoy listening to this CD.If you are looking for original music soundtracks you might be dissapointed.If you enjoy western music you might like this.The CD sound is ok but could be better.

        Among Tommy Garrett's Fifty Guitars repetoire there are two older published albums, Return to Paradise and Fifty Guitars Go Italiano, which are every bit as vibrantly rich in quality as the two South of the Border CDs. The music on these is exceptionally beautiful. Please ask Tommy Garrett to put these two in CD format! Western Movie Themes and Songs didn't quite measure up. The South of the Border pieces which are included in this CD are predictably great, but I can't say the same of the western movie themes and song adaptations.
