Editorial Reviews
Album Description
As its second release in its series of compact discs featuring laureates of the Honens International Piano Competition, Arktos is pleased to present Maxim Philippov performing all 24 Preludes for piano of Sergei Rachmaninov. Part of this 2-CD recording (available for about the same price as a single disc) was previously released on a Harmonia Mundi recording of second-prize winners of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (another distinction Philippov has earned). Of that recording, Gramophone magazine raved, "(Philippov) takes all the time in the world to make his points and is as lucid and musicianly as he is technically impeccable - a rare combination where Rachmaninov is concerned."
