Seductive Sensual Music .......2005-04-23
This CD contains seductive ambient music, created by the rhythmic beat of either a pony drum, congas, talking drum or tom toms, which captures the conscious and unconscious mind weaving a spell of contentment and deep primal awareness in the listener. Additional instruments in each track add subliminal satisfaction to capture the listener's every emotion and transform the energy into deep wells of universal potential.
"Elusinian Blue" composed by Jai Uttal starts with an ancient primival tom tom beat which then has the ethereal Indian sitar-like or santur plucked instrument added ... creating a mysterious Asian aura to which male vocals add a distant powerful instinctual magnetic appeal. "Labyrinth" is a soothing combination of balaphone (an African hammered dulcimer-like instrument), pony drum, and occasional harp ... where the melody meanders into a delightful path of extraordinairily natural pleasure. The music flows like a babbling brook. It delights the senses like watching a natural waterfall ... All of the music on this CD creates a milieu of primival energy and sound that is highly seductive and hypnotic. The magnificent array of instruments combine to create a connection to nature's source of energy. The listener remains surrounded by a sense of contentment long after the CD finishes playing.

The sacred drums of trance.......2003-03-09
_Luna_ is an album of music by a small instrumental troupe. Drums are the most prominent instruments; there are also winds, a bit of bass, an occasional human voice, and some synthesizer. When I first heard the album, I felt the tracks were too repetitive. But upon further listening, I realized _Luna_'s repetitive rhythms had their own charm. This is a CD to listen to as you meditate or do some sort of ritual. It makes me want to dance, and to get out my own drums and play along. It also makes good background music when I want something pleasant and ambient that won't distract me the way music with lyrics can.
My favorite tracks are "Persephone's Song" (pretty and lyrical with lots of winds), "Seducing Hades" (very strong sexy beat, bass guitar, and human voices making moaning sorts of sounds toward the end of the song), and "Labyrinth" (trancelike, with a marimba part that evokes the unrolling of Ariadne's famous thread). "Luna" is the only song I'm not particularly fond of, and that's just because the bouncy synthesizer noise repeated several times is the exact same noise my old Nintendo made whenever Mario jumped. A little distracting.
If you love drums..........2002-07-31
I ran into this CD on accident through a friend, and immediately fell in love with it! The drums are awesome, peaceful and full of power. The entire cd is good to listen to for meditation or long drives, although some tracks are a little bit cheesy. I look forward to buying Gabrielle Roth's other works soon. As you can see, they are all on my wish list. :)
This is my favorite!.......2001-09-18
There are some CDs about the Moon, but this is the one that manifests her. Nice to celebrate Nights.
Voodoo Ambience.......1998-05-19
Very organic, whooshing, whirling sounds never quite touch the quiet swamp rhythms. This music is a dance.

What are you doing Rudy?????.......2007-06-20
Wumpslut really messed up on this album. This is so lame. I never thought I'd ever dislike a Wumpscut album, but I do now, and this is it.
THE CHILD DEVIANT!.......2007-06-19
I am a huge Wumpscut fan, but I am sorry to report, this is my least favorite :W: album. It's not that Rudy is lacking in talent, ...he is and always will be one of my favorite artist, and by far one of the greatest artist in electro/industrial scene, but not with this album. If your new to :W:, please don't start here...I suggest Embryodead, Music For A Slaughtering Tribe, Eevil Young Flesh, Bunker Gate 7, or Cannibal Anthem. Even Bonepeeler, and Wreath Of Barbs would be better than Evoke. Evoke is not a great Wumpscut album.
Not the best WUMPSCUT album but don't let that hold you back!.......2006-10-23
"Evoke" is an interesting album. WUMPSCUT is an interesting band. I wouldn't call the album terrible by any means but I can see how some people might find this to be garbage. Fans of "old school" Industrial might want to stay away from this one. It's nowhere near the wonders of MINISTRY, THRILL KILL KULT or THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB for that matter. In a way, I compare "Evoke" to some of the latest material by OHGR. Which in my opinion, isn't bad. The music seems alike to me in terms of electronics and vocals. I have enough respect for WUMPSCUT to let some of the short comings on "Evoke" slide, considering the next two albums after this one turned out to be pretty good! If your new to the world of WUMPSCUT, you might want to start with the album "Bone Peeler" and then go on from there. "Evoke" is only for fans of WUMPSCUT to begin with. Personally, I liked the album in it's own way.
Hit and miss... big hits, big misses........2006-03-16
I'm rather torn on this album. I can't honestly recommend it, and I can't completely dismiss it. It's true, as far as :W: goes, one could certainly do better. But the gems that are on "Evoke" are some of the best offerings that Ratzinger has made since "Wreath of Barbs." I suppose that the easiest way for me to tackle a review is to look at the individual tracks. (For evaluation, I'm including the two remix tracks as well.)
1.) "Maiden": Oh dear. This track should be taught as a textbook example of how to butcher a perfectly good theme and musical hook. I believe that most of the hostility toward this album stems from this opening track, which is absolutely abysmal. This is a shame, since Jane M. does an excellent job with "Hold" later in the album. Here, she caterwauls some of the most ridiculous lyrics I have ever heard on an industrial album. Not even Leeb at his most goofy (an increasing trend, sadly) can top the clunky ineptitude of these verses. Rudy, shame on you for taking a great theme like a rape/murder victim waiting for her violator in the afterlife and making us groan and laugh at it. It's doubly unfortunate that the waltzing lilt of the chorus is so well done, as we can't really enjoy it because of the previous assault on our ears.
"D-" (spared the "F" only for the sing-song of the chorus, which is creepy.)
2.)"Churist Churist" - OK, I've looked around, and I still can't find the translation of these lyrics. I'm still not even sure what language this is. Overall, though, this is one of the less noxious tracks, even if it does fall prey to repetition and weak musical arrangment. Plus, it's kind of catchy, but honestly the Recently Deceased remix of it is far superior. Definitively average, but with some flair.
"C+"
3.) "Don't Go" - Aww, how sweet. But really, I think the song needs a hook (sarcasm.) Seriously, repetition is your enemy. Quit beating a dead horse. The music arrangment is nice, and Jane M. is a little less annoying - I didn't want to impale her skull with rebar. In fact, she almost sounded like Kate Bush... which she really does in her next track, but without the wailing. Still, too boring to be really enjoyable.
"C"
4. "Evoke" - This track is one of the better ones, as the title track rightfully should be. Catchy as hell, danceable, and suitably brooding lyrics with ONE major exception, which really almost killed me with giggling: "When I get evoked." Such an awful amount of cheese, Rudy. You were doing so well, and now I can't take one of your better songs seriously. Besides, I think you meant "invoked?" Still, this one's a good one overall.
"B" (for repeatedly breaking my enjoyment with that groaner line.)
5.) "Tomb" - I'm not really sure why something this lively would be called "Tomb," but this is one of the better industrial/EBM instrumentals I've heard in a while. It's almost up there with some of VNV Nation's instrumentals (closest quality comparison is "Electronaut") One of the "big four" of this album.
"B+"
6.) "Hold" - Here it is, the best one on the album. Jane M. is spot-on this time, with perfect pitch, timing, and enunciation and no maudlin wailing. The music features great harmonics and unusual turns, and Ratzinger's lyrics are subtle yet potent. Very stylish, infectious, and memorable. Why can't the rest be like it?
"A"
7.) "Krolok" - Umm... this one doesn't do it for me. Too much contextless sampling, weak, tinny music, and no real sense of identity. A "filler track", but marginally enjoyable compared to others.
"C-"
8.) "Breathe" - Tinny, frenetic synth, and more vocal sampling without context. This time, though, it comes across as vaguely offensive and incomprehensible. Maybe this could be the new skinhead stompy-stomp theme. I'd skip it.
"D"
9.) "Rush" - Que the lame lyrics again. The music sounds like it belongs on a console VG soundtrack. More laughable than threatening, and plagued by repetition.
"D+"
10.) "Perdition" - Obviously Rudy's been watching "Lord of Illusions." Give it a rest. Unintentionally funny lyrics that sound like they were written by an ESL student due to the awkward ordering, and almost J-Pop-esque riff undercut what might have been a good track. As it is, it's easily forgettable.
"C-"
11.) "Obsessio" - Once again, no idea on the lyrics. But I do like the spoken-word quality of Clara S. The arrangment's a little stale, but ultimately not repulsive.
"B-"
BONUS TRACKS
12.) "Churist Churist" (Recently Dead Remix) - MUCH better than the original. Dire, apocalyptic, and crushing. Clara S. sounds utterly soulless, like an automated emergency message (Fire. In. Cryo. Storage.) The last "good" track, only eclipsed by "Hold," and a definite keeper.
"A-"
13: "Maiden" (Nersoton Remix) - UGH. How dare you assault us with this TWICE, Ratzinger? Thanks to this, the album begins AND ends with a turd. The only thing that this version has going for it is the fact that Nersoton was wise enough to eliminate an entire verse, and axe Rudy's growling "maiden, maiden, maiden." There's no saving this turkey, though.
"D" (for torturing us less.)
So there you have it. You can either get it for the good points, or pass it for the bad. I hope this helps.
Different.......2006-01-21
I found this CD to be quite wonderful. It's not the typical thing you'd expect to hear from Wumpscut, and a lot lighter than some of his previous works. However, it is mesmerizing and an awesome CD in its own respect. I highly reccomend listening to it, and when you do, be sure the volume is up high.

Top of the line - incredible!.......2007-05-13
If I could give this 100 stars I would do it. Since my trip to Russia in 2006 I "discovered" Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and have since purchased much of his music on CDs and DVDs. All tracks on this particular CD are incredibly beautiful - beyond imagination. Mr. Hvorostovsky was rightfully chosen the "Best Singer of the World" when he was a young man. His lush, full baratone voice is, as the young generation says, "to die for". He has an impressive range, and one can tell he feels music deeply by the nuances in his singing. This CD is one of my favorites of his singing.
Long-awaited follow-up to "Dark Eyes".......2003-01-04
Ever since "Dark Eyes", one of the first albums of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, came out, I've been wishing for the baritone to record more Russian romances. Looks like Delos is more committed to preserving this magnificent voice on record more than Philips did. After all, "Dark Eyes" had a lot of orchestral music, though wonderfully performed by Ossipov orchestra, it effectively reduced the sang material by some about 15 minutes or so. This is certainly not the case here. Well oven an hour of excellent singing is recorded (close-miked) with no interruptions. The songs themselves are the ones most often performed as encored by Russian singers. While baritones or basses have the strongest claim to them, most likely stemming from a long Russian tradidion of low male voice solo, tenors and even mezzo-sopranos have performed some of those to great acclaim.
The absolute hardest thing about performing these songs is not to make them sound sappy, vulgar, or over-done. Of all Russian singers who dealt with this material, I most often think of bass Boris Shtokolov, who sang them with utmost care. Dmitri does just that here. His care for the texts is what strikes me first while listening to "I Met You", a reflective serenade to love long lost. While all songs are spectacularly presented, I would like to mention "Misty Morning" and "I loved you". Like the title song, they are both filled with gentle melancholy, and sang with great tenderness and feeling. Some high-energy items, such as "Troika" seem just a little out of place, but the voice is a sheer pleasure to listen to. In "Oh, Could I in Song Tell My Sorrow", there's a strange change from traditional "your heart would break" to "my heart would break". I am not sure as to why this was done, particularly since the Cyrillic texts are absent.
In liner notes, Hvorostovsky explains the dedication of this album to his father, a chemical engineer, who managed to convey his love for the classical music and Russian romances to his son. I think all fathers need to learn from this man. Wondrous results stem from right upbringing!
The only minor quibble I have is the cover picture. It seems like the producers wanted to target exclusively the female part of the audience by using lots of shades of red color and lots of subdued candlelight. Well, I am sure there are lots of Dmitri's fans among men, particularly those of us who study voice, so I wish Delos would not make the cover so extravagant.
The engineering of this album, though, is very appropriate. The voice is placed well above orchestra (conducted with perfection by Constantine Orbelian) and each word is clearly heard. Together with Verdi Arias recording this shows that Delos engineers are fully capable of capturing the voice of this size and beauty well on record, something I doubted when listening to an otherwise lovely album of Neapolitan Songs.
I am sure non-Russian speakers will enjoy this CD just as much as Russians. After all, we all feel the same, and Dmitri's exceptional talent just makes it easier to communicate across cultural barriers.
ANOTHER WONDERFUL ALBUM FROM DMITRI.......2002-10-11
Once again, Dmitri Hvorostovsky has done another beautiful album. I'm completely thrilled with his last three releases on the Delos lable--the Verdi Album, the Passione di Napoli album and this new Russian love song album. As I have previously indicated on my review of his Passione di Napoli album, I've been a fan of his since his very beginnings in opera, and I do feel that he is truly in his vocal prime.
This album is for the "romantic at heart". The songs are beautiful as is the singing. All I can say of this endeavor is Bravo!!
I'm truly grateful that Hvorostovky's recording career was extended by the Delos lable!!
Dmitri at his best.......2002-10-09
What a treat this CD is. I've been waiting years for the great Hvorostovsky to record another album of Russian folk music, and this is arguably his best collection of that genre to date. Recorded in August, 2001, Hvorostovsky has never sounded better, and the sound quality admirably complements his rich, velvety baritone. Unlike his earlier collection of Neapolitan songs for the same label (DELOS), the recording balance between singer and orchestra will please everyone this time. Furthermore, the CD benefits from stylishly idiomatic arrangements, some fine conducting from Constantine Orbelian, and the sympathetic support of both the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Russian folk music performers, the Style of Five.
The 19 songs on the CD are described as "Old Russian Romances", or in professional music terminology as "Russian Domestic (Household) Romances". These are passionate songs of love, "often against the background of vast, empty Russian landscapes with long roads under foggy, gray skies", as the liner notes tell us. Hvorostovsky's dark, expressive baritone is ideally suited to such music, and Dmitri aficionados will no doubt recognise two songs from his earlier CDs of this genre, the haunting title track and the wistful "O, If Only I Could Express In Sounds". The latter was featured on his best-selling 1991 "Russian Romances" CD for Philips, but here - if anything - his singing is even more poetic than in earlier days. Comparing the two versions, one is immediately aware of how much freer Hvorostovsky's top notes are on the latest CD, with his upper register showing none of the slightly constricted quality that occasionally marred the earlier CD. This is the voice of a mature artist, and it is rare indeed to hear such committed singing from the soul.
As if the above wasn't enough, the CD comes with translations, generous liner notes, and an alluring cover photo of the handsome Siberian.
Hvorostovsky in his Milieu.......2002-08-31
This is Hvorostovsky at his finest. His magnificent rich creamy baritone is not taxed. He makes you sigh at beauty of his high
mezzo-voce notes, held endlessly, and trailing off to nothingness. The songs themselves are lovely-sad ballads of lost love for the most part, with a few catchy little ditties thrown in for a change of pace.
As crossover discs go, this one is one of the best. A fabulous singer at his prime, singing the songs of his childhood memories.
Bravo Hvorostovsky!

Like Raffi, Hap Palmer is a musical ambassador to kids. Aiming for cultural diversity and/or sensitivity during the holidays on Holiday Magic, Palmer and, occasionally, a group of kids make their merry way through standards like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and remake "Jingle Bells" into "Jingle Song," while visiting the Jewish "Chanukah, Oh Chanukah," the Latino "Feliz Navidad," and even the Hawaiian-flavored "Merry Hula." Palmer and the adults do a wonderful "Caroling, Caroling," but it's the sing-alongs such as "The Angel Band" and others that will get families chiming in, too--and teach some important lessons at a time of year when not everyone is doing the tree and crèche thing. Recommended. --Martin Keller

Can we put Humpty Dumpty back together again-? Edward Ka-Spel & LPD are definitely going to try. - "All The King's Men" (all new material) & its companion release on Soleilmoon "All The King's Horse's," are albums inspired & affected by the events of September 11th. In classic LPD form, they use a nursery rhyme to evoke both the apocalyptic events of a year ago & the hope that has arisen from them. This album is a paradox & a provocation. The world has fallen apart & we must put it back together. What should we do?
Album Description

Customer Reviews:
Good, but ultimately disappointing........2003-03-10
"All The King's Men," along with its sister album "All The King's Horses" is the latest
studio release from the ever-prolific Legendary Pink Dots. While it really is a good album
if you think about it, ultimately it comes off as a bit unsatisfying and disappointing. "All
The King's Horses" I would say is the superior album, and to compare "...Men" to
relatively recent releases, it ranks in my estimation quite a ways below "A Perfect
Mystery," and "Nemesis Online." Going back chronologically, I'd say it's the worst
full-length album of new material since 1988's "The Golden Age," which I didn't think
was that great.
Sounds bad, but didn't I just say it's a good album? Allowing for what I expect from a
Dots' release, it is a good album. The quality threshold of Dots' albums is so high that
even their bad ones are better than the best works of other bands in my view. No other
band has for so long so consistently put out great albums in my opinion.
One of my problems with this album is that out of 10 tracks, 3 of them are instrumentals.
Despite the fact that one of them is very good, generally I think the Dots' instrumental
tracks tend to veer toward experimental throwaways.
What's worse is that the technically mixing of this album is very strange. It's not bad in
the lo-fi 80s Dots way, but it does interfere with the enjoyment of this album. The vocals
on some tracks tend to be far too much louder than the instruments. To give you an
example, on my stereo to obtain an optimal listening level for "Hallway of the Gods" (a
Dots album with stellar mixing) I usually have to turn up to 4 1/2. For "All The King's
Men" I had to turn it up to 6 or 7, and then the vocals blew me away. This problem is
somewhat alleviated if you have a very good surround-sound system or listen to the album
on good headphones (I highly recommend either one).
Now, onto a run-down of the songs:
Cross Of Fire - Honestly, there's not much to say about this song. It strikes me as being
ultimately forgettable. It's not bad, but it's not very good or memorable.
The Warden - This song is the highlight of the album. If I was a record promoter, I would
choose this song as the single; it is by far the most commercially viable song on the album.
It starts out with a great organ piece that sounds like it could have come from the
soundtrack of the excellent video game series Castlevania, and then leads into a soaring,
singularly haunting lament. A very good track.
Touched By The Midnight Sun - Another great track, probably my second favorite on the
album. It's very spacey, like something from "9 Lives to Wonder" or "Chemical
Playschool 8-9." In fact, it reminds me most of "The Artificial Silence" from the latter
album. A stripped down piece, consisting primarily of out-in-space vocals, spacey effects
and birds singing, as you can imagine, this is a nice song to listen to after a
marijuana-smoking session.
Rash - An instrumental, but a great one. Very mechanical sounding, very neat, and a bit
spooky, with some great background effects. This song reminds me of "Invaders in the
Raita," also from Chemical Playschool 8-9."
The Day Before It Happened - After Rash, the song quality of the album begins to take
quite the nose-dive. A poppy piece that starts off timid and quiet, but picks up and gets
better in the second half. I didn't much care for this track.
Brighter Now - "Brighter Now" is a grand, sweeping track that leads into an orchestral
march, resplendent with very emotional vocals. I know, it sounds good, and usually I
absolutely love Dots' songs answering to that description; yet this one falls very flat with
me and makes no connection whatsoever. I can't explain it, I feel like I should like this
track, but I don't. It has all the ingredients, but doesn't come through.
Marz Attacks - I've listened to this song quite a few times to give it a chance, but it
remains essentially a throwaway instrumental.
Sabres At Dawn - The album begins to pick up again a little! Sabres At Dawn, while not
as good as tracks 2-4, is a delightfully little piece, an electronic waltz reminiscent of those
you'll find more commonly on Edward Ka Spel's solo works. Quite nice! Takes a while
to grow on you.
"All The King's Men" - An 11+ minute opus... these types of Dots' songs are sketchy.
You have your magnificent ones like "Hallway," "Andromeda Suite," and "Premonition
13" to name a few and then some forgettable ones, like those on "Chemical Playschool
10" or "Malachai." This one, however, is quite good. It starts out very techno-like, and
progressively gets heavier until its almost industrial; after a while it degenerates into
chaotic noise, and then goes back to techno.
However, the effects of this song are tremendous! The first two times I listened to it, I
thought it was simply good. Then, one day after smoking a copious amount of marijuana,
I put my headphones and cranked this track up. The way the instruments and sound
effects dance circles around your head when listening to this song on headphones or with a
good surround sound hook up, is quite the feat of aural engineering. When the vocals
kick in toward the latter part of the song, I nearly jumped out of my seat. The vocals are
sufficiently unsettling, but when you listen to them with headphones on, it feels as if
Edward is talking directly into the back of your neck, like you can feel his breath close on
the nape of your neck! I later tried listening to this on headphones while completely
sober, and indeed, no two ways about it, it is a remarkable thing, but you can imagine on
sensual and disturbing it is when listening to it half-baked to the stars. The long, drawn
out sounds of what I presume to be bombs dropping is also incredible. As I've said
before, a great track.
The Brightest Star - A 10+ minute extended instrumental jam, notably for the striking
violin pieces, but otherwise forgettable.
So as I've said before, this is a good album, but disappointing, because while 5 of the
tracks (2,3,4,8,9) are good, the rest are pretty much easily forgotten.
All The Kings Horses is Great.......2002-11-08
All The Kings Men is part two to follow a masterpiece ALL THE KINGS HORSES - Not listed and I don't Understand why. But to review All The Kings Men is easy - A very pleasent trip with TLPD's once again filled with fun lyrics and imaginary instrumentals - But please try and find ALL THE KINGS HORSES before this one. You will love it - Its by far the best music written in the new millenium and I have collected all the LPD's cd's since the start and KINGS HORSES is the best ever. Belongs in the the halls of music for the gods. Cheers.

I thought the cd was fabu! ... I like it a lot. I also liked the new trak from Justin from american idol on the american idol soundtrack. It rocks! His music is so hard core it makes my eardrums bleed. ...
disapointed.......2002-11-03
I love the Pink Dots! I have seen them in concert so many times I have lost count. My brother has almost everything ever recorded by this incredible group. I listened to this album several times in my car and I was very disapointed with the sound Quality. The mix was bad. The piano would start off so quiet you had to turn the sound full on. Then the vocals would come in and it will blow your ears off. The whole album doesn't sound right. On some songs the music is louder than the vocals and others the opposite. Now my car has a great sounding stereo and I listen to most of my music in my car, but I tried it on my home stereo and I was shocked at the difference. In surround mode it sounded so much better. A lot of the sounds missing in "stereo" are heard in the surround speakers and they sound great. So if you want to listen to this cd, try it in surround and it is well worth while.
strange..........2002-10-19
I must admit I was a bit disappointed when i first listened to this album when it came out a week ago. I received the 2 new LPD albums, 'All the King's Horses' and 'All the King's men'; The former is simply delicious, dark and so so beautiful and subtle; one of the best LPD albums I've ever heard, and that's saying a lot since they're my absolute favourite band.
But 'All the King's Men' is very different. More electronic and minimalistic, but also guitars in the instrumental songs. There're too many instrumental songs and they're maybe too long and repetitive for me.
But please don't misunderstand me, this is a Legendary pink Dots album, and that means good music. I suppose they wanted to disorientate us with this album, which sounds on the one hand as a back to the roots to the dark electronic waltzes of early albums such as 'Brighter Now' and 'Curse', and on the other as a push against any categorisation.

Definately a good EP but not his best work.......2006-12-12
This EP is definately worth buying just for the fact that songs like "These arms","I tried", and sweet electric guitar song "Sweet Thursday", and "Lullaby" is beautiful. But "Suicide is Painless" is just kind of dull and really just sidetracks the good energy of the EP. Definately worth buying whether youve been a fan or just started getting into him.
Absolutely outstanding.......2006-03-13
Like many others, I discovered Matt Costa through my liking for Jack Johnson's music. This CD is brilliant. I love every song. Matt Costa sounds on this album like a slightly upbeat JJ, but with the emphasis on folk-folk/rock. I think he'll turn out to be even bigger if this is typical of the stuff he turns out. One query - I don't understand why the album claims that he wrote all the music and words - he certainly didn't write "suicide".
Another wondeful CD by Matt.......2006-02-01
These songs were taken from the "Songs We Sing" recording sessions. If you liked the songs from "Songs We Sing" then you should also love the songs on this EP. This CD is suppose to be a limited printing, so pick it up when you can. These songs seem more personal then the songs off of "Songs We Sing". Just because this CD is an EP, don't think that these songs are weak. Some of the songs are quite powerful, such a "Suicide Is Painless" and "I Tried".
If you liked "Songs We Sing" then your sure to love this CD! If you are a serious fan of Matt Costa this one is a must for your collection.

Instruments include harp, string bass, ney, bansuri, soprano saxophone, and tar -- plus voices, including an incredible performance on the title track which features the words of a Hilda Doolittle poem. A mix of instrumentals and some lyrics. A beutiful album.

beautiful, heart awakening music.......2006-05-29
Truly inspirational music that delves into the sacred, and, as it says on the cd, is food for the soul.
Quote from album:
"The Labyrinth Walk at Grace Cathedral (san francisco) has four stages, the Blessing, the Path In, the Center and the Path Out. Within this four-fold framework, MUSICA DIVINA weaves a fluid tapestry of written sacred music and sensitve improvisations to enhance the experience of those walking the Labyrinth."

Inspiring.......2004-06-17
I own both Refletions and Solo Piano, and never tire of listening to either one. When I play either album in my office, I am immediately asked who the artist is and where can they get the album. As soon as you hear the music, you are trasported to a beautiful and peaceful place. Dan is a very talented artist. I can't wait for he and Tom to put out another album.

Good Listening!!.......2003-02-06
I heard one of DanChadburn's songs on internet radio, "Companion" and knew I had to buy the CD ! Love his keyboard style, and the oboe and French horn weave beautifully into several of the songs. Recommend this CD!!!
Just an incredible album!.......2000-02-22
My name is Jaared Arosemena and I am the saxophonist that performed on "Stay With Me" on this album. I am very honored and fortunate that Dan asked me to perform on this album. His music realy reaches my soul. Do yourself a favor....buy this album for YOU! Kick back, relax, and enjoy!
from Solo Piano Publications.......2000-01-22
Dan Chadburn's second album of impressive piano pieces quickly went from being an exciting discovery to one of my "Top 10 Favorite" albums for 1999. Four tracks include strings, flute, and/or horns, and eight are solo piano. The closing track, "Stay With Me" is one of the few vocal selections on otherwise instrumental albums that I really like. In most cases, for me, these songs seem awkward and out of place, but "Stay With Me" fits in very nicely and brings this excellent collection to a warm and tender close.
My favorite piece on "Reflections" is "Shifting Sands", a pensive and somewhat somber solo piano work. The meter changes several times during the course of the piece, giving a sense of questioning or perhaps confusion. Passions rise as the piece develops, and then quiet to a feeling of inner peace. Pieces like this make my fingers itch to play them!
The title track is a lovely, wistful opening to the CD - reminiscing set to music. "Dream Catcher" is also a gentle, flowing piano solo. "Nightfall" is a soothing duet for piano and viola. "Amazing Grace" seems to be to the late `90s and early 2000s what Pachelbel's "Canon in D" was to the `80s. I've reviewed three albums in the past few months that included it, and all had a lovely interpretation that was different from the others. Dan's "hymntune improvisation" on this beloved hymn is fresh and contemporary while still true to the song's sacred roots. "Invitation" is perhaps the most upbeat song in this collection. It is full of changing themes that dance and sing and maybe even plead a little bit. "Companion" is truly a love song with strings and horns gently underscoring the emotions expressed so beautifully. "Farewell" tugs at the heartstrings. Summed up in a single word, "Wow!"
The warmth and sincerity of Dan Chadburn's playing and composing are refreshing, soothing, and inspiring. I am so happy to have found his music, and look forward to seeing what else he has up his sleeve!
My Reflection.......1999-11-28
Thankyou for sharing your music with with us. I've just gotten done listening to "Reflections" for the tenth time in as many days. Each time I listen I'm struck by the intense emotions that the melodies bring out in me. I feel the power and comfort in the track "A Mother's Love" and "Companion" brings me back to all of the special people who have touched my life. Great job with "Stay with Me". Abby won't stop singing it. I'm proud to pass "Reflections" on as a stocking stuffers to my closest friends. Keep the music coming!

Sublime.......2003-04-30
"Sublime" is the first word that jumps out in an attempt to describe Paula Brisker's beautiful work. Having followed her career for many years, I am most inspired by her commitment to write music that can change the way we think. These powerful lyrics, coupled with her enchanting vocals and well-honed musical skills make her work the complete package. As you listen, close your eyes and be transported....
I am a fan!.......2001-12-28
I love this CD! I think her voice is what captured me and drew me in. The music and the lyrics and very "catchy". Such an array of instruments and moods. I find myself humming the songs even throughout the day. Look forward to seeing her live!!
