5 out of 5 stars An American Perspective of Outlandish's Music.......2007-01-23

Where to start?...I guess like this: What kind of music so eclectic and unique would have listeners and fans spanning continents from South America, to Europe, to middle East, to Central Asia and beyond uniting different tounges and cultures?-- Outlandish from Denmark of course!
I first saw these guys on LinkTV's world music. Their songs are mostly in English and Spanish but have a fair amount of Danish, Morroccan, and Pakistani.
Their music is just as diverse. They're mostly of the Hip Hop genre, but is originally European, and not American Hip Hop wannabe at all! However, they insert influences of Argentinian, Arabic, and Eastern European music -- truly a product of the Music Earthchild!
Personality? They are quite vocal in their lyrics, not just entertaining, but soothing to the soul no matter what religion or faith you are. If you're sick of curses and booty-calls in regular Hip Hop music, this is a good alternative. Two of their members are muslim, Isam and Waqas, and no doubt they incorporate their faith in it, but they are harmonious with their Catholic member, Lenny, producing an awakening and uniting message (esp. during these troubled times).
Isam and Waqas were born and raised in Denmark with Morroccan and Pakistani descent, respectively. Lenny emigrated from Honduras.
They have received the SoPot Award 2006 from Poland, and were nominated and won as best Danish music for 2006 MTV Europe Awards.

5 out of 5 stars Love Outlandish.......2007-01-12

I love Outlandish and I love this album. The convergence of Moroccan,Amazigh, Indo-Pakistani, and Latin music influences are simply amazing. Unlike most R&B/Hip-hop/Rap artists out there, these guys have great, responsible, purpose-driven lyrics and they are proud of it. They are extremely talented and I'm surprised they are not well know in the States. Hope that changes soon.

3 out of 5 stars 2 songs so far.......2006-09-18

I heard Callin' U and Closer to vein with Sami Yousef and they are really good and I recommend them to people who wants to hear nice music, modern and without swearing and bad words and music to the soul and mind. It's geart I like them, i'll look for the other songs and listen to see other work from this band

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing!.......2007-06-15

He sounds like Justin Timberlake in this CD rather than his personal style. I agree with much that has been written here and I tend to think that this CD was catered for US charts. I'm not impressed with it and I also think his voice sounds much better in his native tongue of Turkish. This english CD sounds like it's going to be his only one. It's not bad but it's NOT Tarkan. If you're expecting a CD like Karma or Dudu this is nothing like them.

5 out of 5 stars Tarkan is cooler than Tarzan!.......2007-05-13

Oh man, I fell in love with Tarkan in 3 hours. Buy this Cd. I'm not even Turkish and I'm in love with his songs! I'd say his Turkish albums are better... His turkish songs are more natural. His "Come Closer" album sounds like it's been waaaay aimed to succeed in the American music industry. Nonetheeless, this album is a MUST for Tarkan fans. :D

2 out of 5 stars Not a lot of flava.......2006-12-28

I agree with Ay from New Jersey. I, too, am a huge fan of Tarkan, and was looking forward to this album. For me it turned out to be a bit of a bust. Here and there we get glimpses of his Turkish genius, but for the most part, "Come Closer" sounds like every other R&B Lite album out there. I was expecting a much more creative blend of East and West. It is unfortunate that the Pussycat Dolls' "Buttons" has more impact than much of the material on this album. It almost seems as if Tarkan were writing music to cater to "American" tastes, rather than writing from the heart. If this is the case, then Tarkan, be true to yourself. Your fans love your creativity.

4 out of 5 stars I was closer before.......2006-11-15

This is a great CD if you take issue with listening to music recorded in a language not native to your own. Judging by Tarkan's already outrageous popularity, that really doesn't seem to be a problem. Therefore, if you are ALREADY a Tarkan fan you will not be over the moon with this CD. His Turkish language CD's are far surperior to this one and I think that's because he has tried to "tone down" the middle eastern flavor of his previous music in order to appeal to a more "main stream" (i.e. AMERICAN) audience. To those who are fond of a more "Western", less "ethnic" sound to their pop music, then you will love this CD. It's very dancey, it's well mixed, and Tarkan's voice is smoothe and silky as ever. I like the CD enough to give it 4 stars, but give me "Dudu" any day!

1 out of 5 stars Tarkan is SO much better than this..........2006-11-12

OK, this is horrible. As a Turkish-American, I have been listening to Tarkan since I was about 16 (I am 30 now) and I absolutely adore his music. I was SO looking forward to this album- we have been saying that Americans would LOVE his style. This album, however, does not show his style and that "je ne sais quoi" that makes him a Euro-mega star. It sounds like a poor imitation of Britany Spears, N'Sync or Spice Girls circa 1999. Actually, I believe that some of his stuff resembles Wham from the early 80s, and again, not a flattering, fun Wham but a sad, poor imitation Wham. This album is the pits- American Customers, PLEASE oh PLEASE don't buy this, but please do buy "Kuzu Kuzu" or "Sikidim" or one of his other, older Turkish albums. Those are fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars An All Time Classic!.......2002-08-08

The Grand Funk Railroad was a band that constantly reinvented themselves, almost with each album. At the beginning there were considered a Heavy Metal band (White Noise) of course even that part of there career has been reclassified as classic hard rock because of what Metal music has advanced too, but it cannot be said that GFR is at least not a grandfather of Heavy Metal. GFR's first two albums On Time and Grand Funk (what we GFR Fanatics call The Red Album) were extremely heavy and somewhat simplistic (also GREAT). So when Closer To Home Came out it singled a change. Now this "heavy Metal Band" is showing the ability to change and showing versatility and more sophisticated lyrics. Closer to home is more of a blues based album there GFRs pervious efforts and It also contains GFR magus Opus (Best song) in my opinion I'm Your Captain Closer To Home. Its wonderful song and singer Songwriter Mark Farner said it came to him in a dream and that he believe God gave him this song to be meaningful to people. It has been meaningful to me for over 30 years now and to millions of others as well. The song is just a beautiful blend of melodic Guitar chords (Mark Farner) a great lead bass line (Mel Schacher) and wonderful drumming along (Don Brewer) with great lead vocals by Mark and wonderful Harmonies between Mark and Don, take all that and include a great orchestra blended and you have an all time rock classic. Closer to Home is worth the price just for I'm Your Captain Closer To Home alone, but that is not all. This album is great from start to finish. Sin's a Good Man's Brother is a hard rocker with an infectious groove. Aimless Lady a cool Bluesy rocker. Nothing is the same showed more sophistication in lyric writing for the young band and it rocks as well. Mean Mistreater and is slow down for the band a bluesy song crying out for lost love. Get it together is a fun (mostly) instrumental a nice grove provided by the rhythm section (Don & Mel) and some nice guitar chops at the end. Hooked On Love has that Gospel feel that influences much rock n roll from the 60s and early 70s, a typical we got to have Love song and a very good one. And I'm Your Captian/Closer to home which is GFRs magus opus as I said previously. IYC/CTH is one of rock n rolls classic songs and its simply a beautiful songs. Coming form GFR such a heavy band at the time it was a big surprise. This CD also includes shortened Am radio Versions of I'm Your Captian and Sin's A Good Man's Brother and both of these versions are very rear. This album shows GFR still with gritty power, but also shows striking maturity for the three young man, Mel, Don and Mark. This is one of Rock N Roll's classic hard rock album by one of Classic Rock's best bands. I would recommend this album to any hard rock/rock fan and any metal fan who wants to see the beginnings of modern hard rock and metal.

5 out of 5 stars GFR Brings it Home.......2000-03-28

"This CD is one of their best. Besides containing the FM classic, "I'm Your Captain", There a few great tunes that you'll never hear on the radio. But then again thats always been the case for GFR. Classic rock stations will play Led Zeppelin 'til the cows come home, but will only occassionally play the same two or three Grand Funk songs. The boy's from Flint have a lot more to offer. "Sin's a Good mans Brother", is about as hard rockin as you can get, borderlining on heavy metal-[a genre that has always been credited to being pioneered by Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Critcs should have been paying attention to what was happening state-side in the mid West.]The song "Nothing is the Same" is a great "coming of age" diddy on which Mel Schacher lays down one hell of a bass line. "Aimless Lady", an instructional on how to pick up zoned out groupies, is another good one. The keyboard driven blues-ballad, "Mean Mistreater", is touching if not depressing."I Don't Have to Sing The Blues" is bit chauvinistic, while "Hooked on Love" brings out the bands' naivete. This CD is a must for any ones rock collection, Especially if your a Grand Funk fan.

The Cast Album to the Hit Play Created by the Pet Shop Boys. A Big Hit on the West End!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Only Wish It Had Crossed The Atlantic.......2005-06-18

"Closer To Heaven" has a wonderful score & is a great "first attempt" by the Pet Shop Boys into theatre. The songs are beutifully produced and contain thoughtful lyrics. A couple of the songs are "so-so", but most of the score is great! Best songs include:

Something Special
Closer To Heaven [a terrific ballad version of their "nightlife version]
For All Of Us
Positive Role Model

Despite this being a theatrical score, it plays like a great pop cd. I only wish the production would have played in the U.S. as I would have loved to see it!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fabulous!!!.......2004-05-14

The music and the design for the show were phenomenal. Yes, like any other musical, it presents itself with a `drag'. But this musical takes a twist that Mr. Rice would love to contrive. Most of the music is a remake and re-constructed. The only songs which was totally 70's was "Out of my system". The rest of the show and music was incredible. With over nine years of theater musical direction, I only wish that I had the finances to re-design/re-construct the show and tour it through America.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Pop Album Of Recent Years.......2002-07-07

This is simply classic pop. The fact that PSB don't perform the songs here isn't too critical: It actually provides more variety to the album. Buy it even if you are not a PSB fan and haven't seen the musical(i didn't see the musical).
1 My Night(10)- Brilliant start. Classic PSB pop song with a great funny vocal by a female singer and a nice twist as the whole cast joins in. Great mixture of a pop and musical.
2 Something Special(8)- Full of Heart.
3 Closer To Heaven(8) Romantic.
4 In Denial(8)- Upbeat song.
5 Call Me Old Fashioned(10)- Funny, marvelours pop. Classic PSB.
6 Nine Out Ten(8)- 8 out of ten actually. Nice duet.
7 Caligula(10)- More funny Euphoric pop from the female vocalist of the first song. She's great.
8 Hedonism(Instrumental)(10)- Great dance instrumental. Relentless style.
9 Friendly Fire(8)- Good tune and lyrics. Sad song.
10 Shameless(8)- Great song, but in this case only it falls from the original PSB performance(most of the songs here are completely new).
11 Vampires(6)- Every silver lining has a clowd... Yeah, i know it should be opposite. Didn't like this one on Nightlife as well.
12 Closer To Heaven(8)- Different version.
13 Out Of My System(4)- Awful. Doens't sound PSB at all with the annoying Cher sample. Sounds like Posh Spice Out Of My Mind.
14 K-Hole(8). A Mysterious instrumental. Nice.
15 For All Of Us(10)- Awesome. Emotional. Brilliant. Perfect. Get The Picture?
16 Closer To heaven(8)- Short this time, but nice. Very Sad indeed!
17 Positive Role Model(8)- Barry White sample(My First, My Last: Ally Mcbeal). Very nice.
To sum it up: Brilliant.
