My new addiction.......2002-06-15

I find two things most memorable. The Sonata in G major by Handel, the inside cover will tell you, was written by the composer on the spur of the moment. I can tell you that it feels like the work of a mature master, one who can write into his work passionate crescendi routinely and not make them trivial or redundant. (It is an instrumental work, though). Another wonderful piece is the Aria on CD 2 by Scarlatti, the Chiedi pur ai monti. It is a subdued piece, with a pastoral feel. But again, it is addictive, and that's why I think one ultimately buys music - not because one wants to listen passively, but because one wants to actively indulge in enjoyment of the work, over and over.
