Something happened to Spoon between records five and six--they got big. It's not as if these unprepossessing Texans were unpopular before, but after Gimme Fiction, their music was everywhere. There was Britt Daniel, who has since moved to Oregon, singing karaoke on cult favorite Veronica Mars, there was his soundtrack for deadpan Will Ferrell vehicle Stranger Than Fiction, and then there were the countless times their tunes, especially 2002's "The Way We Get By," appeared in other movies and TV shows. The irony is that they hadn't signed to a major label (they tried that in the 1990s; it didn't take). Nor had they given their sound a major overhaul. Maybe it was a change of publicist, or maybe the times had simply caught up with these "faux punks/gentlemen dudes." In any case, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is the mark of men confident enough to give their album one of the world's goofiest titles (at least it's an improvement over Queen's "Radio Ga Ga"). If Gimme Fiction was a transitional work, record number six moves even further away from the angularity of Wire and other early influences. "The Ghost of You Lingers," for instance, is downright dreamy, while "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" is brass-bedecked power-pop (with chimes!). Open-minded listeners will surely find this Beatlesque song cycle irresistible. Fans of the Spoon's darker, more dramatic material might want to check their expectations at the door. They'll be glad they did. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Album Description

This record starts with "Don't Make Me A Target", a song that builds on Spoon's familiar minimal rhythmic piano/guitar vamp popularized on earlier hits like "Small Stakes" or "The Way We Get By". The album quickly moves into uncharted territory with the atmospheric "The Ghost Of You Lingers" and moves through several different stylistic changes from the explosive "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" to the wall-of-sound horns of radio single "The Underdog". Their most heartfelt batch of songs since 2001's "Girls Can Tell".

2 out of 5 stars Where's the Spoon of old?.......2007-07-11

With success from songs such as "The Way We Get By" and "I Turn My Camera On", Spoon has decided to take the pop route. I liked it in small doses but not for an entire album. It felt like this album could be played to any given episode of the O.C. How unfortunate that the band that gave us gems like "Lines in the Suit" and "Change My Life" would resort to cheap commercialism. I can't wait to count how many of these songs will soon be in commercials for cars, cola, jeans, etc...

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!.......2007-07-10

This is far and above the best record that Spoon has recorded yet! In a career full of steller records, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga exceeds my expectations completely!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it. For the betterment of yourself...and all of humanity........2007-07-10

Swinging and sleek, sharp, minimal and sweet, Spoon is the best rock and roll band on the planet.

Although they started out loud and angular, Spoon has mellowed into fine and precise pop craftsman, in the best tradition of mid-60s Beatles and Rolling Stones. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga--at 'round about half an hour--crams in Motown rhythms, power-pop melodies, experimental flourishes and even a Mariachi band without ever sounding overdone.

5 out of 5 stars Again, They Don't Disappoint.......2007-07-10

(Ga X 5)offers a logical progression in Spoon's already impressive discography. If critics level any criticism at this new album, most likely it will involve damning Spoon's consistency because there aren't any geniune surprises on this album. Well, so what? I consider their ability to put out one satisfying album after another surprise enough. They've found their niche---oblique, angular, and aurally textured pop-rock---and I think they're wise to stick to it.

(Ga X 5) successfully offers a hybrid of the sounds from the last few albums (Kill the Moonlight and Gimme Fiction) and as usual you can detect the often-noted influences ranging from the Kinks to Wire to, yes, Van Morrison (give "The Underdog" a spin to hear the VM influence.) Granted, the disc is short, clocking in at just over 30 minutes, but this is also in a way a sign of the band's restraint. They know what they do well, and here they're at the zenith of their powers. Even the odder, more difficult and cubist tracks in the record's middle dintinguish themselves as worthy slow-burners after repeated listens.

In short, definitely one of their best discs. You won't be disappointed. I hope they continue making discs like this for many years to come.

3 out of 5 stars Great While It Lasts.......2007-07-10

There are very few bands around today that can consistently put out decent album after decent album. Spoon is one of the bands that can. "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" is the band's follow-up to 2005's stellar "Gimme Fiction." With a band like Spoon, you have to be expecting a lot, especially after such a great album. So does "Ga x5" live up to the expectations? You'll have to keep reading to figure out my verdict (or just scroll down to the bottom).

The album begins with the inexplicably infectious "Don't Make Me a Target," in which Britt Daniel simply sings the song's title as the chorus. With such a simple hook, one would think that the song would not be as memorable as it actually is. However, the song is a great lead-off track, and definitely gets the listener hooked immediately. It is a perfect showcase for the album's two greatest assets: Daniel's voice and flawless production. Unfortunately, any momentum that was started by the lead-off track is immediately squandered by the song that follows it. "The Ghost of You Lingers" is a shockingly plain song, with only repetitive 8th-note piano phrases and vocals to show. The song seems to exist for the sole purpose allowing the band to say "Hey, listen to all the cool things we did to this song in the studio! Hear that? That's called reverb!" It is a distraction, and just plain not worth listening to.

"You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" picks up the pace and helps you forget what just happened. The song features some extra instrumentation courtesy of a saxophone and finds Britt singing "Life could be so fair, let it go on along" in a beautiful falsetto. The song is a fun affair and sure to be a hit at the band's live shows. It's followed by my favorite track on "Ga x5," the funky and soulful "Don't You Evah" that utilizes an awesome bass line to keep the groove going for the song's entirety.

"Rhythm and Soul" is a fairly decent pop rock song, but at the same time it seems utterly throwaway. It's fragile and utterly unmemorable vocal melody is really only bolstered by the band's instrumentation, but even then I only got a few good listens out of it before skipping over it. "Eddie's Ragga" is in a similar predicament. While it's not necessarily a bad song, it just gets lost in the rest of the album.

Fortunately, Spoon is smart enough to pick the pace back up, and they do so flawlessly with "Underdog," arguably the strongest song on the album. The song is truly one of Spoon's all-time best, complete with trumpets and off-beat hand claps. Again, Britt's vocals are unbelievably effective when he sings "You aren't here for the messenger. Don't want to know 'bout something that you don't understand. You got no fear of the underdog, that's why you will not survive!" Everything about this one is great and "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" really climaxes here.

"My Little Japanese Cigarette Case" is another song that could get lumped into the "forgettable" category. It has a pretty solid guitar part and a chorus that is almost there, bordering on greatness. "Finer Feelings" once again brings things back to a respectable level, with some catchy "do do doos," another great guitar part, and a spot-on vocal melody. "Black Like Me" is exceptionally well produced and it ends the album on a positive note. Though the song may start out sounding like your standard end-of-album ballad, it soon builds into a welcomed upbeat closer.

"Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" is a fairly decent accomplishment from a band like Spoon. There are truly a few moments on the album that are "wow" inducing. At the same time, there are other times where you're bound to be scratching your head. While none of the songs on
"Ga x5" are downright terrible, the album as a whole is incredibly hit and miss. It's amazing highs are weakened only by it's forgettable lows. Expect the album to be really great the first time through, only to slowly fade away from your good graces after several listens. "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" is a good, fun album, but the fun won't last forever. Enjoy it while you can, for there are truly some awesome songs on it.

Amazon.com

"Many years from now" must have seemed like an understatement to 16-year-old Paul McCartney, wondering if he'd still be needed or fed at the age of 64. As it turned out, all doubt as to the latter had ceased by his 22nd birthday (though few could have predicted he'd end up washing down those meals with the liquid pride of Seattle). As to the former? Now that McCartney, as of the date of this album's release, has reached that mythic age, his greatest work is 40 years behind him, his solo peak over 30 years gone. Does the world need a new Paul McCartney album? The answer is yes, at least as much as it needs anything else that passes for music these days. With Memory Almost Full, Macca is back. No, it's not Ram or Band on the Run. It might not even be Flowers in the Dirt--in 1989, he had a full band, the support of Linda, and Elvis Costello as a collaborator. Here, he's on his own. Literally: on the majority of the tracks, everything but the strings is multi-instrumentalist Paul. But the surprise is that it's one of his freest, loosest affairs in years, sonically reminiscent of the Tug of War/Pipes of Peace era with nods to Abbey Road in the album-closing medley, McCartney's gravelly tones on "Gratitude," and 2007's version of "Her Majesty," the palate-cleansing "Nod Your Head." It's a surprise because of the album's inescapable sense of retrospection ("Ever Present Past," "Vintage Clothes," "That Was Me") and even a bit of weariness. The next-to-last song is "The End of the End," after all, in which McCartney tells us about what he'd like to happen "on the day that I die." (He wants "songs that were sung/to be hung out like blankets/that lovers have played on/and laid on while listening to songs that were sung," and will likely get his wish.) But it never gets overwhelming, for McCartney mostly resists his tendency to get plodding and maudlin. In fact, Memory Almost Full must be the most sanguine album made during the dissolution of a marriage since...well, ever. "What went out is coming back," he sings in "Vintage Clothes," and from the sound of things, that may not be just wishful thinking. What's past is prologue; if we're lucky, what to come may be McCartney's late renaissance. --Benjamin Lukoff

The 13 new songs on Memory Almost Full are performed entirely by Paul McCartney (excluding strings) and produced by Grammy Award-winner David Kahne (The Strokes, Sublime, Bruce Springsteen and more).

2 out of 5 stars Surprised at all the good reviews.......2007-07-12

I was hesitant to get this album but after seeing the Dance Tonight commercial and reading so many good reviews I decided to go ahead. I've been a Paul McCartney fan from the beginning through the children's video "Rupert and the Frog Song" and Band on the Run. With all the hype I was expecting to be elated by the songs on Memory Almost Full. Instead I heard myself repeatedly say "I've heard this before. He's just repackaging the familiar. The only truly overflowing with life track was Dance Tonight. It seems he wrote it in the kitchen with his family present, after the entire album was recorded. In Dance Tonight you can tell Paul is happy. The others songs have a forced undertow. If he can maintain the vitality he brought forth in Dance Tonight for his next album then we might have some great music.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome addition to McCartney's renaissance.......2007-07-11

As you can gather from the other reviews here, Memory Almost Full is a fine album from the inimitable, irrepressible Mr McCartney. All the elements are in order here: songwriting, singing, performance, production, and recording. I am happy to give the album five stars (it's a very strong collection), but I'm not sure it ranks with Paul's very best. Why not? I guess for my tastes, I find Paul's best work happens when all the elements are in order *and* the album also sustains a tight emotional focus. This was the case on Tug of War (1980) and, especially, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005). Memory Almost Full, by contrast, seems to me just an outstanding collection of songs, the way Flowers in the Dirt (1989) was an outstanding collection of songs. It's enjoyable and (as always) fascinating to see McCartney working through his various and surprising musical ideas, and it's again a reminder of what a genius this guy has been for so many years, but I don't think it will inspire "awe" (Bob Dylan's word) the way Chaos and Creation did a couple years ago. Still, one must be grateful for what one gets, and that I certainly am: Memory Almost Full is a very strong, very enjoyable album. I hope you buy the album and enjoy it as much as I have. The three bonus tracks continue McCartney's long tradition of putting out weird gems for his B-sides.

5 out of 5 stars mccartney memory almost full new cd release from paul.......2007-07-11

I bought this cd about one week after the release date. I think that it is worth buying for a few reasons, first it is a great cd with some fine music on it,and almost all the songs are very good,i could only pick one or two songs that I do not like, but the songs on the limited edition the three extra are very good and i am surprised how good ,they could have been put on the main cd or on his next,so I recommend the limited edition but the regular edition is ok if you do not want to spend the extra money.I had to listen to most of the songs a few times and they grew on me and I have played the cd at least 15 times and I still like it. This is a winner, buy the cd and show Paul we still care about his new music and help him because so many people get the music illegally and for free hurting the cd sales, I know he does not need the money but he needs some fans who got enjoyment from his musical career to show support now,and as a bonus get a great cd by a great artist who is not given enough credit for his solo career Thanks for all the great music Paul.

4 out of 5 stars Brother's Gift - Paul McC.......2007-07-09

My brother was really impressed with his Birthday Gift. I can only go by his reaction. He would probably rate it a 5 but I'll give it a 4 on this occasion.

The Traveling Wilburys were one of the few supergroups that lived up to their promise, because they didn't try to. Things started inauspiciously when George Harrison, needing a B-side for a 1988 single, called in friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison for assistance. Two albums later--the second without Orbison, who had passed away shortly after the first was released--the loose-knit collective had recorded material that was as durable, and occasionally eclipsed, the participants' legendary solo work. The Wilburys succeeded due to a genial and contagious camaraderie that permeates both discs. What could have been a train wreck of ego clashes instead resulted in a frothy meeting of the minds. These guys are having a blast, trading lead vocals and harmonies on energetic folk-rock, quirky rockabilly, and Beatlesque pop that shimmers with the respect and esteem the members clearly hold for each other. Harrison and Lynne's rather slick production polishes off edges that might better have been left unvarnished, but there's no denying the loosey-goosey craftsmanship at work in tunes such as "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," and a striking Orbison performance on "Not Alone Anymore" that ranks with any of his finest. Both albums were million-sellers, but oddly went out of print for about a decade until Rhino resurrected them, adding two rare tracks per disc as well as a DVD of music videos and a band documentary. The resulting package is a comprehensive overview of a once--well, twice--in-a-lifetime project that, especially after Harrison's passing, will never be repeated. --Hal Horowitz

I am delighted with the CD and in particular the DVD. I have enjoyed their music for sometime but I now have a bit of an insight into how the group got together. I have also been introduced to some of their songs that I had not heard before. To get the price reduced after having ordered the item was a pleasant and unexpected bonus.

Roy and George live on through the wonder of DVD...Kudo's to Rhino Records for such an outstanding product!

5 out of 5 stars the Wilburys have come back at last in 2007!.......2007-07-08

Hare Krishna. George Harrison (oh how we miss him) has returned with all his musical friends for another appearance to the world as the Traveling Wilburys. This cd/dvd set is a MUST for your library. The videos alone are worth the price of the set. The 80s gave us great music and musicians such as Pet Shop Boys and Culture Club... but the Wilburys are a shining star not only from the past but for our present. The music is fun and the lyrics are enlivening. To all the people out there in Amazon land i tell you -- BUY THIS BOX SET as we head for the LIGHT.

The Hannah Montana special edition soundtrack arrives so coolly p ackaged and with such a bonanza of extras that it might even induce budget-conscious tweens who already own the original to break open their piggy banks a second time. All the same hyper-charged, deliriously fun songs are here--the Radio Disney hit "If We Were a Movie" and the speaker-hazardous "Pumpin' up the Party" included--but so is a new number, "Nobody's Perfect," that again reaches out with a message from Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah, without mitigating the sky-high mood. Toe-tapping, indeed, is mandatory. Throughout. Other deluxe-edition tack-ons include signed snaps of the double-life-leading superstar, a certificate for a free "This Is the Life" ringtone, and a starter course of celebrity dish: in addition to a concert sliver featuring "Nobody's Perfect" on disc two (the DVD), Miss Cyrus leads her breathless fans on chummy, if minimally revealing, backstage tour. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars A Great CD for Tweens and Teens.......2007-06-13

I like the songs by Hannah Montana on this CD because they don't talk about boys and relationships but are focused more on a positive self image. There are a few songs at the end by other artists which aren't as good.

    5 out of 5 stars Can't Go Wrong.......2007-06-04

If you (or your kids) are (bubblegum) pop music, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, or Disney fans, this is definitely a soundtrack for you. Like the regular soundtrack, this 2-Disc Special Edition Hannah Montana CD is full of fun, get-your-body-moving songs that kids and adults can relate to. The bonus track and the extra features (backstage secrets hosted by Miley Cyrus herself, a live performance of "Nobody's Perfect," and 4 polaroid-style pictures) make it well worth shelling out that extra ten dollars.

    This is a must buy!

    5 out of 5 stars a classic.............2007-05-17

I can still remember the first time I heard this soundtrack. It was on my family's turntable. We happened to own the original vinyl addition. THE SOUND OF MUSIC (AKA THE SOUND OF MUSIC, in the words of Christopher Plummer who was Captain Von Trapp, in the film) is a classic musical that has really spanned the generations of young and old viewers, for (more than) four decades. For starters, the music is catchy ("The Sound of Music," "These Are A Few of My Favorite Things," and "Edelweiss," as just a few examples). Secondly, this cast was just great! Though, I have a personal preference toward the original cast, with Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. Nonetheless, Julie Andrews is great here. What a beautiful soprano voice.

This edition features bonus transfers of interviews with those involved in bringing THE SOUND OF MUSIC to the screen. What's more, this is the complete soundtrack (instrumental and music featuring vocals is included here). Definitely a "must buy" for true fans.

    5 out of 5 stars Sound of Music--Still Great.......2007-05-13

I loved the music when it came on the big screen. I loved it on LP and cassette. Now, I love it even more on CD. The joy I get from listening to it while driving is wonderful. It sends me back to fond family memories. This is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Sound of Music.......2007-05-07

The CD of the soundtrack of Sound of Music came in good shape and in good time.

5 out of 5 stars I love The Sound of Music!.......2007-04-14

I love this movie so much, it's my favorite! So I recently bought this cd. Wow! If you love the movie, you'll love the cd. The cd has every song from the flic and is so clear. Listening to the songs make me want to watch the movie all over again for the trillionth time. You'll be able to picture every scene listening to this cd. Also, if your stuck in traffic and need a pick me up, play this cd. You'll wake up from your drowsy drive and entertain yourself cause you can actually sing along to a song and know the words, while the movie is replaying in your head.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it so much, we bought it twice........2007-04-11

You know all of these songs and Julie Andrews is at her best. This is a great soundtrack, and the disc got a ton of play in my family. On a vacation trip to California the disc accidentally got left behind in the rental car. After 6 months of the kids asking for me to replace the disc, I finally bought it again. The disc is in heavy rotation, to borrow a term from radio programming, and everyone's enjoying it again.

Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. --Genevieve Williams

    Album Description

The Super Audio CD (SACD) features two disc layers. One layer contains a standard version of the album that works on any CD player. The other layer includes high-resolution stereo and a 5.1 surround version of the recording that works on SACD-compatible DVD players and home theater systems. Both layers employ SACD's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding process that samples the music 64 times faster than CD for unprecedented fidelity.

    Album Description

Full Title - Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Edition. It's been 30 years since 'Floyd released their masterwork, and it's been on the charts for most of them! And now comes a new dimension to what was already the ultimate headphone experience-this new edition includes a newly-remastered conventional version and a Super Audio CD 5.1 surround mix version playable on SACD-compatible DVD players and home theater systems. 5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-07-09

Incredibly, Dark Side Of The Moon, by Pink Floyd, was released almost 35 years ago. The amazing thing is that this excellent CD is still important and relevant today. I can listen to Us and Them over and over again. The hypnotic perfection of this CD is amazing. Most bands would love to have a collection of greatest hits that would rival this one album by this incredible band. If you have not heard this, you are in for a treat. A Five star masterpiece.

1 out of 5 stars Why is this a classic?.......2007-06-05

Disclaimer: If rock, country, and [c]rap disappeared from the planet tomorrow, I would the happiest man on earth. There would be some loss, but I would be willing to sacrifice it for the general uplift in musical taste. Having said that, I do occasionally find something I like in the pop vein (Steve Winwood, for example), but I have yet to find anything that I love because I've never uncovered anything of musical substance. This mix of Dark Side of the Moon sure ain't it. Having recently purchased an SACD player, I thought I would revisit this so-called classic. If nothing else, I could play it for friends.

Thirty years ago, you couldn't walk into a hi-fi store without hearing "thump-thump, thump-thump," followed by two hundred clocks having simultaneous orgasmic releases. All that remains on this recording, but the simple, over-electronicized music still does nothing to move me. The sound effects are almost as annoying as those fuzzed, distorted, god-awful guitars that several generations have amazingly accepted as THE sound and will be able to point to in old age as the source of their deafness.

I'm sure just about everyone will disagree with the above opinions, but you cannot disagree with what follows. The mix on this recording is dreadful. Like virtually all pop recordings, the engineer forgot that rock is VOCAL music and thus typically made the vocal lines so recessed within a wall of sound as to render lyrics unintelligible. It's as if the band were playing in your ears but the singers are 30 feet away. Why this is standard practice in the pop field, I cannot imagine. I also don't much like sitting in the middle of the band and wished the instruments were all placed up front. Moreover, the sound is harsh and overbearing, and that is likely the fault of the mixing engineer, not the source material. While I have found in playing SACDs that I want to turn the volume up (including electronic jazz), in this case I dived to turn it down.

The Dark Side of the Moon will go onto my shelf and remain there until someone begs me to play it.

P.S. There is a reason that Amazon sells some versions for $150 and this one so cheaply.

The big question about this soundtrack is: how's she doing? No, not Beyoncé, silly--how's Jennifer Hudson doing? And more specifically, how's she doing by "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"? To this reviewer's ears, she doesn't top the original Effie, Jennifer Holliday--or even Lillias White, from the 2001 Dreamgirls in Concert. On the other hand, Hudson isn't afraid to pullout all the stops, whipping herself up into a total diva frenzy as the song gets caught up in an unstoppable crescendo. As for Beyoncé, she adapts superbly to the 1960s- and 1970s-tinged material, though "Listen"--a ballad that also appears on her own B'day album--lacks the spirit that infuses the classic tunes on this album. For make no mistake: this is hard-hitting, high-octane music, infused with an urgency and passion that makes most contemporary R&B albums sound timid. When Hudson and Beyoncé duke it out on "It's All Over," or when the "One Night Only" ballad gets reinvented as the dance-floor burner "One Night Only (Disco)," the sheer energy flowing from the speakers is transporting.

Note that this two-CD Deluxe Edition features a larger booklet and additional tracks, including dance remixes of "One Night Only" and "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," as well as composer Henry Krieger's demo of "Patience." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars "You Will LOVE This CD!!!".......2007-06-27

I just got my CD and I love it... My favorite songs is Listen, I am Changing and Of course the NO.#1 HIT--"I'm telling you I'm not going"
Just Purchase it and you will not be disappointed.!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Your Goin' To Love this!.......2007-06-20

I was very sceptic about this adaptation. I was very dissapointed in Evita when they chose populairty over talent. I am a fan of Madonna and Beyonce but the performance by Beyonce is amazing.
In answer to T.T.'s remarks. RENT THE MOVIE! Gosh, a movie cost 4 bucks at the rental store. And there is very little talking. Most f the songs are like they are in the movie. But anyways...
THe performance is atstounding. I think that this album goes right up there with The Sound of Music and the Wizard of Oz and Chicago (never seenthis one, too young).
The songs are movig and the add ons are amazing. Listen is my Favorite, but more of that latter.
    The Performances:
Beyonce- Beyonce was born to be Deena. Infact she mirrors Denna a whole lot (see Wikipedia - Destiny's Child). She delivers a superb performance, better that the original Bway Deena. Dreamgirls is phenominal.

Jennifer Hudson - Well what can I say but SIMON COWELL YOU WERE WRONG! And as she sings in I am Changin' AND NOTHING IS GOING TO STOP[HER]

Anikki Nonni Rose - Sorry if I spell her name wrong, but it is very odd. Honey if there was n unsung heroe of this film it would be her. Her phenominal and most of the time hilarious performance is what adds character to the film. Esp. when they brake Jimmy up with them she delivers a hilarious speech.

Eddie Murphie - Wonderful, Who knew he could sing.

    Jamie Fox - GREAT!

    Best Songs:
Move - Amazing! Wonderful beat. And SHAKE IT ON!
Cadilac Car - Wonderful song, esp. If you have a crappy car or a real Cadilac car
Steppin' To the bad Side - WONDERFUL, BEST SONG OF THE WHO MOVIE
    I Love you I Do-lovely
    Dreamgirls-Just hair raising
IT's All Over - Cuss a lot, I know, but amazing adittude though. Don't let little ones listen to this one.
And I am Telling You I'm Not Going - Just bye the CD for this song. I can't put in words the emotions in this song.
    I Am Changing- Beautiful
Effie Sing my Song-Not in the movie but amazing
    One Night Only- great
Disco version- great, but would have loved the wooshing like in the movie. A little too long, but when you see the extended version you will get the longer version and think WHY DID THEY CUT IT????!?!?!?
Listen - AMAZING SPECTACULAR! SUPER! IENIBOIWEBWEJKFDIVLEFB!
Dreamgirls Finale - " " (same as above)
Family (End Credits)- Better than the ordinary version for reasons I can't explain.

    1 Dissapointment:
When I first saw you was a gereat song in the film, but in the original cast it was after Dreamgirls (To Sig. that Deena and Curtis were Together)
and it was reprised with an argument about Deena's Dreams. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS! but they cut out Deena and the purpose of the song was lost, but it is still wonderful.

My Only Thin is Get the Orginal Bway Cast and this CD. The Orig. Bway cast has a cool One Night Only Too. Try Them both. They have diff. textures, but are both truly amazing.

    2 out of 5 stars Ok.......2007-06-03

Apart from Beyonce singing Dreamgirls, this album doesn't bring much. It's a dud. Most of the songs are just a lot of talking not actual singing. The movie was good, and I think it's better to watch that and listen to the songs. Unlike the soundtrack "Casino", which I can listen to and enjoy without seeing the movie, I can't with this. they should have done what most movies do and pick a bunch of great oldies by other artists back in the day to create the movie/soundtrack. and i'm also very sick of Jennifer Hudson. sure she can hit high notes, but she only sounds like she's screaming. her voice is not appealing. i rather listen to Beyonce's voice any day; it's easier on my ears. i also don't like how she's so arrogant and ungrateful to Idol. i don't think she's going far with that kind of stink attitude. it just shows you're a sore loser.

    3 out of 5 stars Quite forgettable.......2007-05-15

I've had this CD for several months now and I hardly ever listen to the music. I'm surprised how uninteresting it is to me. Yes, there are some good musical moments on this CD and Jennifer Hudson can sing, but she also screams too much, in my opinion, and I think she was extremely overrated in this performance. I just don't love listening to her sing on this CD.

    4 out of 5 stars Dreamgirls.......2007-05-12

The music is more intense watching the movie. I didn't enjoy the CD as much without the movie.

    Album Description

40th Anniversary Edition Of The Classic Album!

1965's Whipped Cream & Other Delights transformed Herb Alpert & The Tijuana into bonafide superstars, spending an incredible 8 straight weeks at the top of the charts. The album was not only memorable for its music, but for the iconic cover art which featured model Dolores Erickson strategically swathed in whipped cream. The original twelve tracks revolve around the theme of food and include such classics the triple Grammy-winning hit, "A Taste of Honey" and the Dating Game theme "Whipped Cream." This special 40th Anniversary edition features two studio bonus tracks along with a 20-page booklet and a collector's poster.

Each album in the Herb Alpert Signature Series features meticulously remastered sound, deluxe packaging, detailed liner notes, and an intro by Herb Alpert containing personal recollections and anecdotes.

    4 out of 5 stars Vintage Delights.......2007-05-14

It had been a long time since I heard this album on vinyl, but all the memories came flooding back. I had forgotten how well Herb and the guys actually played, and that each piece had its own hook! I recommend this CD as a piece of pop musical history, whose sound is every bit as fresh today as it was 40 years ago.

5 out of 5 stars Whipped Cream: Not for the Lactose Intolerant........2007-04-29

1965's Whipped Cream & Other Delights transformed Dolores Erickson into the bonafide superstar of my adolescent whipped cream fantasies. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass didn't do so bad, either, spending an incredible 8 straight weeks at the top of the charts. The memorable cover might have accounted for a large percentage of sales, especially among my demographic, but the music didn't hurt.

This is a prime example of the 60's "concept" album, with all of the intrumentals named after food. Lollipops & Roses." "A Taste of Honey" and the Dating Game theme "Whipped Cream." Etc. Etc. It caught the Zietgeist and rode it like a wave. Boys in Elementary School were inspired to learn the trumpet. I, among them.

I think the first record I purchased was Herb Alpert & TJB, but it wasn't this album, it was a 45 single.

I later did get this album, and several others of theirs, and then my neighbor's mother borrowed it for a wild party, and it got scratched from all the crazy drunken dancing.

5 out of 5 stars Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream w/other delights CD.......2007-04-12

A slice of Classic Herb Albert & Tijuana Brass at their best

    5 out of 5 stars WHIPPED CREAM'S secret revealed!.......2007-03-05

I'm going to reveal something here that few have ever noticed...

The girl on the WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS cover is NOT sitting in a small mountain of whipped cream. It's true! She's got white cloth draped around her that's been dabbed strategically with shaving cream.

This first million-selling album for Herb Alpert & the TJB is still their very best. It features a solid program of instrumentals of varied mood and style-- there's even a polka here ("Peanuts"). The songs "Lollipops And Roses" and "Whipped Cream" were used for many years as incidental music on the ABC-TV game show THE DATING GAME. "A Taste Of Honey," the opening album track, was a Top 40 hit in 1965. But they're really all great songs!

If you're a fan of pop music instrumentals, WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS belongs in your collection. Highest recommendation.
