More Great Cluytens.......2003-06-23
This is a delightful disc from EMI France of Franck's Symphonic Poems conducted by one of my favorite conductors, Andre Cluytens. Cluytens was regarded in his time as one the premier conductors of French music, and he is featured here with the Belgian National Orchestra (which he took over after his departure from the Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire) on these stereo recordings from the early 1960s. Recently, EMI has loved to add different Cluytens performances to their various series and budget line titles, and Le Chausser Maudit has appeared before at a minimum on the Andre Cluytens "Artist Profile" collection. The other three poems are released here on CD for the first time to the best of my knowledge. Any fan of Franck or Cluytens would be negligent to not pick this title up.
