It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones's voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone but herself. Any way you slice it, she is a singer to be reckoned with. Her readings of the Hank Williams classic "Cold Cold Heart" and Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" alone are worth the price of the CD. Jones's own material, while not bad, pales a bit next to such masterpieces. They might have fared better had she and producer Arif Mardin opted for some livelier arrangements, taking better advantage of brilliant sidemen such as Bill Frisell, Kevin Breit, and Brian Blade; or if the tunes had simply been given less laconic performances. Jones has all the tools; what will come with experience and some careful listening to artists like J.J. Cale and Shirley Horn is the knack of remaining low-key without sounding sleepy--sometimes less is not, in fact, more. --Michael Ross

Simply addictive!.......2007-07-12
This is her best album!
Her voice is unbelievable, the delivery is amazing and the lyrics are stunning!
Haunting sounds.......2007-07-06
For 3 months, my Norah Jones CDs have taken over my car stereo. This woman is very talented!
The phenom Ms Jones.......2007-06-27
This is such an outstanding production, so much better than the later(I think) CD. Miss Jones should be careful which guitar players back her up. She should stick to Bill Frizell or maybe she should try Mark Knoffler, if she can get him away from Emmy Lou.
Glad i bought it ( Part II )...!.......2007-06-20
I knew that Nora Jones was good music but i had no idea just how good...My sister-in-law bought me this CD for Father's Day...i have listened to it 3 times today. The way i would describe her lyrics and delivery is equal to "Musical Rose Petals". So smooth and so inviting is her voice. I really love the Piano work also. Her birth name being "Geethali",Nora Jones along with the likes of Michael Buble have added a nice, new, fresh selection of music to today's currently enemic sound. This album made her only the second artist ever to sweep the "Big Four" being Album,Song,Record,& Artist of the Year at the Grammy Awards in 2003. Standouts for me include: "Come Away With Me","Don't Know Why", and i really like her rendition of Hank Williams SR.'s "Cold,Cold Heart". With her throw back to Billie Holiday/Roberta Flack days voice coupled with a very welcomed piano based style, Nora Jones can take me away anytime! If you've waited to give her a listen ,as did I, do yourself a favor and don't wait any longer.
I'd Love To...........2007-06-05
Okay, she's not quite a standards specialist, but a lot of people think Norah Jones is well on her way to setting some new standards of her own.
The daughter of famed Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar, Jones grew up in Dallas with her mother, and her work is firmly rooted in the dry Texas soil. The youngest in this survey (she was born in 1979), Jones burst on the scene in 2002 with this debut album of nine original songs plus a handful of country and pop standards. Renowned for her sweet and soulful set of pipes, Jones has often been compared to Billie Holiday. There's also a touch of Roberta Flack and Emmylou Harris in there.
Come Away with Me is an honest-to-goodness country-blues recording that you can sit back with on the front porch rocker on a brisk autumn afternoon. Sort of like an early James Taylor, Jones mixes a little bit of country, folk, and soul into a collection that's the perfect antidote to today's insincere fare. The public must have sensed the same thing, because it bought this CD in boxcar loads, and in 2003 Jones walked away with eight Grammies, including album of the year and best new artist.
The title track, written by Jones, is the first new song I've heard in a long time that's utterly believable. "Come away with me and I'll never stop loving you," she begs, and it's as though she's singing it to you, personally. To Hank Williams's "Cold Cold Heart" she brings an R & B feel, petitioning in anguish to her lover man to come back, body and soul. "I've Got to See You Again" is an exquisite modern torch song in the same vein, while "One Flight Down" is an upbeat tune with chord progressions right out of Paul McCartney's Wings songs, like "Carry That Load." She ends with Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You." Close your eyes, let Jones's words envelope you with their soulful caress, and you'll sense that she's a lot nearer than your living room speakers.

In the opening track of this live CD, Michael Bublé explodes "I'm feeeling GOOD!" Who could blame him? He's backed by a big--make that a really big--band, and the song sounds like a million bucks. You may quibble that Bublé is a nice fellow who's a bit lacking in both the charisma and swing departments, but the music here percolates with bouncing energing--just listen to "Summer Wind" or "The More I See You" to see how glorious arrangements (by Johnny Mandel and John Clayton Jr., respectively) can propulse a reasonably gifted but by no means transcendent singer into the stratosphere. Best of all, Bublé once again shows his ability to seamlessly bridge eras and styles by offering stylistically consistent covers of the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" (done swing-style) and Lou Rawls' 1976 hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" (done crooner-style in a duet with Italian singer Laura Pausini). (The DVD offers up a similar take on Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," for instance.) The DVD portion of this combo set doubles the ante by offering 18 tracks (plus a bonus "Song for You" with Chris Botti) to the CD's 8. There's also a 20-minute backstage featurette showing what goes into the preparation for the show. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

the only buble dvd out that's worth it's wait in gold. the sound is great and the band is the best..all young musicians under 35 yrs. old. God bless them..buy this keepsake
You are so gonna love it!!!.......2007-06-19
I have never liked concert videos very much. Even when I loved a singer or a band it was hard for me sit through an entire concert DVD, no matter how handsome or talented they were. I guess I felt it was a poor experience compared to the excitement of the real thing.
But Caught In The Act is so good that even I can't stop watching it. Why? Well...
1. Michael Bublé is a great singer. No, he is a great PERFORMER. He has no only a beautiful, velvet-like voice but he feels every song and it shows.
2. Great band! Awesome musicians. It's a real privilege to see and listen to such an amazing group of artists.
3. The songs are wonderful. Some may say that Bublé plays safe with proved hits but he sings every song in his unique style without betraying the spirit of the genre.
4. The guy is so funny!!! "Caught In The Act" is like one of those 2x1 specials. You get a great concert AND live comedy! His "impersonation" act is hilarious, especially because this time there is a surprise for him too.
5. And it doesn't hurt that the guy is good looking too. Absolutely NOT the most important part of the show but a nice bonus nevertheless.
This CD+DVD is an absolutely MUST. There is no way you will regret buying it.
The CD was remarkable, the DVD was entertaining!.......2007-06-10
I was first introduced to the wonderful talents of Michael Buble while I was looking for the song "Sway" on iTunes. Ever since, I've been hooked to Mr. Buble's music.
Michael Buble's performance thoughout the DVD is downright remarkable. He performed the songs that can be found on the CD as well as a few surprises here and there. Somewhere after track 10 on the DVD, Buble performs a cover edition of Maroon 5's "This Love". I'm a huge Maroon 5 fan and Michael's performance was hillarious when he made up words to the rest of the song because he didn't know (or remember) them.
Anyway, if you're looking for a glimpse of what the atmosphere at a Michael Buble concert is like, check out this DVD. It takes place at what seems to be a classy venue and the people in the DVD have so much fun dancing and singing to his popular songs.
WOW.......2007-05-15
this is a fantastic CD. I wish there was a DVD to go with it!
Fantastic.......2007-05-13
Michael Buble is one of the most talent artists out there. His arrangements of the standards are great, and he is giving new life to this wonderful music and bringing it to a whole new generation. While watching the DVD of this performance, I feel like I'm right there on stage with him because he has this great ability to make you feel connected to his performance. I loved the DVD and I would recommend this, and all of his CD's to anyone.

Have some friends who still haven't discovered what the Sarah Brightman fuss is all about? You'll find the perfect introduction to make converts of them all in Classics, so they'll have no more excuses to remain clueless. Sporting a Botticelli-inspired image of the platinum-selling soprano on the cover, Classics is a classy anthology including highlights from three of Brightman's chart-topping releases along with seven new tracks. Songs personally selected by the diva as her favorite classical interpretations are culled from her previous blockbusters: Time To Say Goodbye, Eden, and La Luna. And whether you're a fan already in the fold or one in the making, the new material here shows the diva at the top of her form, in new renderings of "O Mio Babbino Caro" and "Nessun Dorma" (accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic)--fascinating displays of the operatic confidence she's developed over her career. Other new offerings include a touching version of Schubert's "Ave Maria,' "Winter Light," a fresh take on her signature song "Pie Jesu" (from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem). "Alhambra" and "Dans La Nuit"--a real treat, bathing the listener in Brightman's silky, sensuous vocalism--add two original titles to her famous adaptations of classical melodies to new lyrics (using Chopin's haunting E major Etude in the latter case). All told, a lovely affirmation of the directions Brightman has boldly taken in her career to date. -Sarah Chin

Sarah's Best Easy Listening CD.......2007-03-15
Sarah Brightman's talent is limitless. Her soprano and/or alto voice is among the best and she lets it show in 'CLASSICS'. CLASSICS is a beautiful, easy listening, and peaceful CD. CLASSICS is one to listen to in tranquil or relaxing moments. "CLASICS" is a collection of great pieces of music written by great composers (Shuburt, Handel, Chopin, Puccini, and the like). I have listened to CLASSICS about 15 times now and it always puts me in a quiet and peaceful mood (I am ~50 years old).
Best Brightman CD.......2007-02-07
A classical composition which showcases the beautiful voice of Sarah Brightman. A timeless CD which will continue to be a favourite over the years.
Sarah Brightman is a Classic.......2007-01-02
Sarah Brightman is at her best in "Classics." From Dvorak's "Rusalka" (Opera B.203) to Beethoven's haunting Op 52, slow movement (Symphony #7), Brightman's voice and lyrical style are a joy. I particularly enjoy her performances of Schubert's Ave Maria and Andrew Lloyd Weber's Pie Jesu. This is a great add to my collection of serious music.
Not The Best - Not the Worst - From Sarah Brightman.......2006-12-30
After purchasing this CD for my iPod for iTunes, I must say that I'm a little bit dissapointed. 7 new recordings and 8 old ones, ones that I already happen to have. I do like the fact that they're all on one CD! Some of her new recordings, including, "Ave Maria", "Winter Light", "Alhambra", "Dans La Nuit", and the new recording of "Pie Jesu" are just too breathy for my taste. It seems as with every changing CD, Sarah's voice changes. I'm not saying that the result is bad; it actually gives the songs more of a dream like quality, but I'm used to the younger, more Andrew Lloyd-Webber integrated Sarah. Scooping continually occurs in new recordings of "O Mio Babbino Caro", and "Nessun Dorma". In some tracks from La Luna, like "Figlio Perduto", Sarah's voice is TOTALLY dominated by harmonizing recordings that sound almost mechanical.
OVERALLY - The new songs sound O.K. and the old recordings are just as good as they were back then. This album is still a great buy!
Nice Cover.......2006-12-27
I'm a heterosexual guy who's not an opera aficionado - I only mention these facts because I seem to be right in the bull's-eye of the target market for this product. Sarah B. has a nice voice and she's pretty. Both of these are featured prominently on this CD. The cover and several pages in the insert are devoted to what must have been a very long and expensive photo shoot (and Photoshop) of a semi-clad Sarah looking marvelous. (The CD also comes with a flyer so you can buy various Brightman "Classics" apparel - perhaps not for the heterosexual male).
As far as the music goes: not bad, not great. I don't claim to have the most discerning ears for this sort of music, but everything was OK by me. However, the pieces on the CD with which I'm somewhat familiar, such as "O Mio Babbino Caro," didn't sound quite as good as other versions I've heard (and that includes by Charlotte Church, not just opera stars). Also, the solo version of "Time to Say Goodbye" didn't sound nearly as good to me as the duet with Bocelli.
In sum, there were 3-4 songs I liked enough to rip to MP3s - which is enough so that I didn't feel ripped myself...

Album Description
With great success and momentum going before them, the David Crowder Band began the process of writing and recording their newest release, Illuminate. Having performed 251 concerts in 2002 (yet only missing 11 Sundays at University Baptist Church), Crowder says that the band was able to truly interact with its fans, consequently learning where the connections are: "We realized that, musically, their tastes were similar to ours. Just because a record is in a store doesn't mean they'll get it. Our music made sense to them. We were nervous about how the interaction would be. But, in between records, we kept getting reaffirmed that the fans really understood what we were about...that what we do is useful and significant in other people's lives. It helped us relax. It made us want to make music."
David Crowder has never been a disciplined, let's-sit-down-and-write-now kind of songwriter. "Songs come in spurts," he explains. "I am an inspirational writer. The moment will hit and I know I better find a pen and paper. There is a lot of intentionality behind my songwriting." And so it happened with the songs of Illuminate. Back in Waco, a writing spurt began as Crowder was having conversations at church about the relationships between the physics of light and Scripture. "It was definitely a 'head to heart' kind of experience when the songs came out," he says. Who knew that science would inspire worship?
Customer Reviews:
A Musical Masterpiece.......2007-06-05
I may not be the first to mention this, but this album greatly strengthened my relationship with Jesus Christ. I've always been a strong believer, but this music just takes me to new heights in my spiritual journey. Just when I thought "Illuminate" was as good as it gets, Crowder produces "A Collison" and captivates me once again.
"Wholly Yours" is just about the most profound song that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Even the interludes have deep meanings to bridge the gap and complete the album.
The album is a true, meaningful journey of worship and praise. It is an experience that you won't be able to discover anywhere else. DCB has changed me individually and I'm so much better for it. Believe me, you will never want to take this one out of your CD player!
Fantastic.......2007-04-12
Every cut on this CD is wonderful. There is a great variation of tempo throughout the album. I especially like Here is our King. Be more Quiet is simply haunting. Usually I don't enjoy bluegrass but I really thought I saw the Light hit just the right note
Why I listen to it over and over.......2007-01-28
If you've seen David Crowder in concert, you will want to buy this CD. David can get 'out there' with his techno sound, but this is not like that - it's 'real' sounding. David Crowder has an awesome voice and his lyrics are pure worship, if not directly from the Bible itself. You'll find yourself singing along. The only fault I noted was 'odd' breaks between some of the songs, but it's only distracting the first time you listen to it. There's really no cut on this CD that I don't like.
Unique!.......2007-01-10
David Crowder strikes me as someone who would be fun to know: he seems smart, committed to Christ, and creative in the extreme. This album is fun to listen to, and is definitely unique!
I Wish it Went to 10 Stars!.......2007-01-10
This album is WOW! thats all there is to say...it so great and so sincere. You can really connect to the cd. You should definitely consider buying Illuminate too! Its even better!

December holds the distinction of single-handedly putting Windham Hill on the map and being the new age album most likely to find its way into music collections of all ilk. In spite of being relentlessly overplayed during the holidays, the solo piano recording has aged quite well. Winston shapes holiday war-horses and original compositions into a captivating contemporary statement. His spare, understated style captures the feel of the dark season, employing ample resonance to evoke a reflective spaciousness. The album's straightforward simplicity conveys both the celebration and quietude that characterize the best of the Yuletide spirit. --Richard Price
Amazon.com
A quintessential example of George Winston's "folk piano" style, December speaks to the spirit of the season. Mixing traditional carols, a couple of classical works, and his own originals, Winston drops notes with icy clarity into a winter silence, rippling through "Carol of Bells" and coaxing dark, introspective moods from his own suite, "Night." The pianist's liner notes are also a trip as he cites the numerous sources for his music. Who would've thought that the gentle melodies of "Peace" were inspired by the soundtrack to TV's The Outer Limits? This 20th anniversary edition, which includes two bonus tracks, is a vast sonic improvement over previous releases. --John Diliberto

Twenty Years later... Still Excellent!.......2007-05-28
December, Piano Solos: 20th Anniversary Edition, by George Winston is about as close to perfect as you can get. Winston phenomenal interpretations and originals form a masterpeice. Classified as a Holiday album, I agree with many of the other reviewers that this is an album to enjoy all through the year. Although each selection here is very good, Variations On The Kanon By Pachelbel is simply a wonderful piece. I did have the pleasure of seeing George Winston in concert and I would receommend that any fan try to experience the music live with introductions by the pianist.
An outstanding 5 star CD.
a must have for a musical library.......2007-03-26
this cd album is extremely moving and has value because of the evocative power of some of the pieces it contains.
George Winston's December.......2007-03-09
I have a copy of the vinyl since it was released. Though I love the quality of the vinyl, I want to bring December with me wherever I go. The two additional cuts in the anniversary issue are lovely, but I would have been equally happy with the original.
Love this CD.......2007-03-08
Perfect for the holidays (but I listen to it all year)! Anything by George Winston is fabulous.
Multi-mood music.......2007-01-29
I love this CD! The best part about this music is that I can listen to it regardles of what mood I'm in and the music fits perfectly. The Sheet music for "Variations of the Kanon by Pachelbel" is a great bonus.

Bruce Hornsby is now best known for his stints playing keyboards with the Grateful Dead and for his involvement in such post-Dead projects as the Further Festival. An incomparable keyboard wizard whose skills are widely admired while his albums are consistently underrated, Hornsby's greatest commercial success is slipping rapidly into the past. His 1986 debut, The Way It Is (recorded with his band, the Range) is the high watermark of his career commercially, having sold several million copies and spawned a trio of hit singles, including "Mandolin Rain," "Every Little Kiss," and of course, the No. 1 smash, "The Way It Is." Overall, it's Hornsby's most tuneful album, though not necessarily his most accomplished work. His is a catalog that is long overdue for reevaluation. --Daniel Durchholz
Customer Reviews:
4 good songs and that's it........2006-09-16
If you're thinking that you're going to get an album that is full of songs like "Every Little Kiss", "Mandolin Rain", and "the way it is", like I did. Then you will be let down, Like I was. Those 3 songs have been favorites of mine since they came out, but I just now came around to getting the album. Sadly there is only one more song on the album that is even worth listening to and that's "The Long Race". These for songs have all the great piano work, all the great rythums, all the great vocals, and all the great songwriting. The rest of the album is very much just OK and I don't think a whole lot of thought was put into it.
All in all though I payed 2 bucks for my copy and that is definetly worth it for 4 songs that I really like.
Bruce's Best.......2006-06-01
As I write this review(June 1st, 2006), it is exactly 20 years to the day that Bruce Hornsby's debut was released. What an artist and what an album! Not since Elton John, has a piano player had such a major impact on the pop/rock music scene. Bruce Hornsby had a fresh sound that was unlike anything else on the radio at the time & his sound was kind of a cross between pop, rock, folk, bluegrass & country. His band "The Range" were all superb musicians as well. Great guitar work, percussion and of course Bruce's piano playing, which is second to none. I bought this album way back in 1986, and to this day, I still listen to it on a regular basis. There's not one weak song on the entire album and songs like: On the Western Skyline, Down the Road Tonight(w/Huey Lewis), The River Runs Low, The Red Plains & The Wild frontier are just as outstanding as his radio hits. "The Way it is" was an instant classic and one of the Finest albums of the 80's. It just doesn't get any better than this!
Old fan.......2006-05-04
As in other occasions Bruce Hornsby, is the typical singer that i have like, but in radios where i have listen they usually dont say the name of the singer so i pass. Amazon makes possible to have name and music in one pack. Thanks.
A Timeless Classic.......2006-03-08
This is probably Bruce Hornsby's finest moment. It's an album with broad appeal, good keyboards, nice guitar work, infectious beats, and catchy well-sung songs. There's not a weak one in the set. This album is perfect for driving, or musing, or any other activity! Everyone has their favourite song on this album - it's a timeless classic.
one of the greatest 80's bands ever !!!!!.......2006-03-06
one of the few favorite bands from the 80's i can actually say were artists with talent!
every song has a country tinge sound to go with classic piano pop rock, fantastic guiter playing also.
every song, besides their hits, are memorable and catchy.
great driving music too.
all their albums are terrific if you like their songs.
even the non hit songs are excellent.
i cannot praise this group enough!!!

A smorgasbord of jazz standards, pop, swing, and r&b grooves, this is the ultimate Jamie Cullum album. Jamie has collaborated with a range of music svengalis, including Guy Chambers, Dan the Automator (from the Gorillaz and collaborations with DJ Shadow), Salaam Remi, Ed Harcourt, and many more, but he's careful not to forget his roots. His brother Ben has cowritten a number of tracks on this album, as he did on Twentysomething.
Album Description

Universal. 2005.
Customer Reviews:
Doesn't this thing have a zero setting?.......2007-05-20
To all of you who fell for it once again, I shall repeat myself, though in a slightly different and more direct way: if you want jazz go and buy a Charlie Parker record; if you want great jazz singing, go and buy some Billie, or Ella for that matter, or some 50s Sinatra. Jaime Cullum is not, and never has been a jazz musician. He was labelled as one simply to sell pop records, but that is an insult to pop music. This is yet again rubbish thrown at you by a multi international company. A fool is easily parted with his money, yet again! Ha HA HA HA HA!!!!
What happened?.......2007-03-20
After two fabulous contemporary "old school" jazz albums which I would recommend to anyone (Pointless Nostalgic and Twentysomething), this album is more like some sort of bad half-breed between "old school" jazz and pop. And not that a cross between jazz and pop couldn't be good music, but this one just really isn't. It seems that he is trying to transition between musical genres, and is falling flat on his face in the process. I have listened to it again and again trying to make myself like it, but it just isn't happening. Save a few tracks, the songs on this album are rather uninspired and dull, and I fear that these days Jamie Cullum really does "Want To Be A Popstar"...
Better voice, less hooks.......2007-03-16
Cullum's voice and musicality are better than his last album but the tunes don't hook me they same way as the stuff he&Ben wrote for "Twentysomething."
However, this is still an enjoyable album with lots to like.
Great music.......2007-03-14
I hope this guy has a long career in music.
I wish Amazon would start packaging as the previously did, just last year. I had to order this and seveal other things twice just to get an undamaged copy. PLEASE aamazon return to the days when you cared about items arriving undamaged.

As these two boys from Brisbane, Australia, know, it doesn't hurt to be endorsed by Rosie O'Donnell. When the Queen of Nice sang the words to "I Want You" and the praises of the duo behind it, the song catapulted up the charts. Largely ignored by the serious music press, Savage Garden have cultivated a vast fan base on the strength of their music--and airplay--alone. As formulaic as it may appear, the ballad "Truly Madly Deeply" was lodged at No. 1 for week after week for a reason--it's damn catchy and a welcome reprieve from overdone rock ballads. Lead singer Darren Hayes lends the same yearning vocal style to the third--and best--single from the album, "To the Moon & Back," a slice of synth-pop genius that culminates in a dramatic crescendo of strings, courtesy of coleader Daniel Jones. --Rebecca Wallwork
Customer Reviews:
Music to love to.......2007-05-13
Nostalgia got me one afternoon and I had to listen to the songs I use to listen to when I was younger. I used to swoon at the sound of Darren Hayes' voice and suddenly craved that sound again. I'd given my CD to a friend as a gift though, so I had to buy it again. I'm so glad I did.
The debut album of Savage Garden is by far their best. From "I Want You", a great song to dance to, to "Tears of Pearls" a song that may pull on your heart strings. They cover every emotion and pull some new ones from you.
If you haven't heard this CD yet, you need to.
best band ever.......2006-10-03
I love both albums from Savage Garden. They are definitely my favourite group ever. Now I can only listen to their songs. I don't think I could go back to *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. Savage Garden were always on the radio in Australia (I'm from Australia) and on TV. I think Daniel Jones is so talented (and HOT!!) and Darren Hayes' voice is just so amazing. I love how their songs have a deep meaning and are not just some jingle. My absolute favourite song from this album is "To The Moon And Back" because it's so catchy and my other favourites are "Break Me Shake Me" "I Want You" "Truly Madly Deeply" and "Santa Monica". Put all their albums in your shopping cart NOW!!!
awesome band.......2006-10-03
i think Savage Garden are the best band ever. I would rather listen to them than Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC anyday. Daniel Jones is so hot and can play every instrument imaginable... and Darren Hayes' voice is heaven.
Yes........2006-04-09
Savage Garden is just about the greatest pop band ever, and that's all you need to know. They are a masterpiece.
HIGH SCHOOL ALBUM.......2006-02-02
This band could have been so MEGABIG right now if they hadn't disbanded. The lead singer Darren has a voice that is hauntingly angelic and the songs they sang was a mix of alternative/r&b/pop/rock/dance...such a great group. I bought this CD because I had heard three of their singles and they all were phenomenal. Buy this CD if you must because it is definitely not a bore. It is great for those high school events like the Senior Prom (Truly Madly Deeply and Universe), the Halloween dance (To the Moon and Back, I Want You, Carry On Dancing), and your first date and kiss (Santa Monica), hee-hee.
I miss this group. I wish that they could have stayed together for long because their second album was also a total smash like this one. Something about Darren's vocals, the instruments, their look, the lyrics, and their aura is compelling. Even now that I am older and experienced, I would slip into nostalgia and think about the good ol' days when music wasn't so angry and competitive and recyclable. Buy this CD because it is the debut of the ones that may have influenced Hoobastank, Coldplay, and Maroon 5. Cheerios!

Few would accuse Fantasia of a reluctance to abide by the wisdom that what you've got, you should flaunt, and the vocal gusto she slathers over her full-length debut gets partial credit for earning--and keeping--your attention. To a greater extent, though, the high-wattage help heaped over the Idol 3 champ and Patti LaBelle-sound-alike makes the disc dazzle. In addition to pitch-ins from Missy Elliott, who produced and co-wrote three tracks and busts out a two-snaps-up rhyme on "Selfish (I Want U 2 Myself)," Jazze Pha duets on the ultra-mod "Don't Act Right" and Jermaine Dupri wrote and produced the smolderer "Got Me Waiting." Surprisingly, though, it's not those tracks or even the Idol-propelled cover of the Gershwins' "Summertime" that will stick with listeners most. Instead, first single "Truth Is," a sweet, old-school R&B lament directed toward a lost love, and "Baby Mama," a spirited shout-out to hard-working single mothers, snare standout status with their from-the-gut authenticity. Keeping it real is what won Fantasia the hearts of millions on TV, and despite Free Yourself's likable slickness, it convinces that--hot commodity or no--she's not about to forget it. -Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Total Garbage.......2007-02-27
This album and this artist should never be heard. There were sooo many more talented people on American Idol when she won. This album is a perfect example of that. All the studio effects in the world can't help this over-rated, so-called singer. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s$%^.
c'mon now.......2007-02-16
what happened to that voice we wanted to hear from American Idol? maybe it was the choice of songs but I really was disappointed.
Nice little debut.......2007-01-02
When the three diva's Jennifer Hudson, Latoya London and Fantasia Barrino
were killing the competiion on Amercian Idol in 2004 it was almost a given that an female R&B singer would take the crown that year. Well Fantasia ended up taking the crown and lived up to her promise on her first CD. Her first single Truth Is was an excllent R&B single and the song Baby Mama was catchy and fun.
Could not get past Baby Mama .......2006-12-29
I am sorry but I could not get past the Baby Mama song. Unlike some of the other complaints it does not bother me if people are single moms or had a child out of wedlock. The whole "baby mama" stuff is just so played out and ignorant sounding. There must have been a more classy way for her to get her story across and empower moms. She has a great voice but this song was beneath her, it ruined it for me.
I didnt know the chipmunks won American Idol.......2006-12-22
Although the music porition of the cd has potential, the singer has a horrible voice. I am surprised not more people have noted that she sounds like a chipmunk. Like past AI winners, this is a sore loser in the end. Bleh!

The best Latin music I've heard.......2006-04-18
The music in this CD is done beautifully! If features "Panis Angelicus", which if you like Charlotte Church singing it, you will like this- with a man's voice! There is no goofy revisions and modernization done to the music that I can tell. (I only say that in case some smart 15th century music history scholar comes around and disagrees!) It is very peaceful and will help anyone to calm down and give thanks to God. I think because the music is in Latin you will not grow tired of it as easily, and not to mention the fact that this music will continue to inspire you and put you in the presence of Christ better. OHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! How I wish we were singing this sort of Latin music instead of "All our Welcome" and "Sing a new Church"! Let's keep the same Church Christ established thank you! And let's keep the Latin!!!!!!!
60's and the Latin Mass.......2006-03-15
I am one of those 60s people. We did not throw out the Latin mass. Why would we? We liked it. I served most of the high masses of the holidays. It was a small cabal of newly ordained priests and bishops in the Vatican II committees who threw it out. They wanted to be more like their Protestant bretheren; have the congregation face them instead of God. Read the book MISSING MARY while you are listening to this CD. They threw her out at the same time; no women in high places - their answer to the feminists of the 60s.
Latinlover.......2005-12-18
As a devoted lover of Catholic Latin hymns, I was disappointed at the enemic presentation of these beautiful hymns to God. I believe that the singers had the best of intentions but I would suggest to look for other versions of these wonderful songs to heaven.
