4 out of 5 stars MORE THAN "MOOD MUSIC FROM THE MOVIES - PIANO STYLE".......2005-09-24

A long time ago I had the opportunity of being in the audience of a "F & T" concert at the "old" University of Wisconsin Madison Union Theatre. The accoustics were not the best and the pianos had to be retuned before the performance began yet everything about the night was grand for the audience. I purchased the double LP of this collection (or one similar) and I played it so often that it wore out. I thought that I would never find the CD. And on impulse I researched amazon.com -- and HERE IT IS. I have waited a long time to listen to these great movie themes once again...indeed the simplicity of songs like "The Apartment" and "Exodus" and "Days of Wine and Roses" just are not found anymore. These are more than romantic background music or dinner music. Listen to the tones and melodies which are carefully woven into a larger themes. Everyone of these songs can be identified (if you are old enough) with a certain place and certain time (a date, a concert, movies you talked about over and over again, a slice of time never repeated). For those of you who are younger but love the sound of piano and of the movies, try listening to these themes. No blasting jarring big acoustics here to distroy the ambience. Yes they don't write or play them like this anymore.

Many of the songs on this CD have been nicely arranged and are pleasant to listen to. I found that F & T favored hard playing rather than soft melodious music. Track #19 was all screwed up and does not play but just bounces around.

Great soundtrack. I haven't tried it on surround sound yet, but it sounds great on my car's CD player. The tracts from "Where Eagle's Dare," "The Battle of the Bulge," and "633 Squadron" are just superb---but the whole CD is really well done.

I bought this CD for one theme only, "Where Eagles Dare". It is one of the most stirring, spine tingling recordings I have heard. I play it in the mornings to get me started and it wakes up every nerve cell. The recording quality and muscianship are excellent. And, the bass intensity and dynamic range are mind-blowing. You could blow your speakers if not careful. All the selections are good. I recommend this CD.

This cd contains a good mixture of re-recorded themes. While I have not listed to this on a surround system, the orchestra still sounds great throughout the 54 minute recording. My favorite selection on this CD is Rod Goodwin's 633 Squadron.

The box said "Great Movie themes" but inside the box were 3 totally unrealted CDs of classical music and once you open the box you can't return it. Beware.

This is probally one of the best movie soundtrack cd's that I own, and believe me, I own a lot, know what I mean, hey hey, say no more, say no more. A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat. I have to admit, two or three of the songs on these cds didn't appeal to me, but beside those few songs it was great. I would deffinatly recomend this cd set to anyone that enjoys old movies.

I don't like the majority of what is on these disks.(90%). They're actually three unrelated disks formerly available at nationally known discount stores at six dollars or less, one of which I had returned previously. One is on love themes, another on sci-fi, and one on westerns. The last is the best, though the sci-fi does a fair Blade Runner imitation. The vocalist singing "I Just Called To Say I Love You" is poor to the extreme. I have been unable to push myself through that album any further. None of these are by the original artists, though their names are achknowledged in the credits. What they appear to be are basement studio recreations of the originals. These are inexpensive for the obvious reason. I know better, and have only myself to blame.
