Album Description
More marches, waltzes, and fox trots in this recording of the New Verbeeck Band Organ at Seabreeze Park in Upstate New York. On a hill above scenic Lake Ontario, the music of the band organ can be heard on the breezes drifting over the blue water. Twenty-three tunes bring back the sounds of summer from Seabreeze Park - the whirling carousel and prancing horses spin around to the music of childhood, and this fabulous recording captures the wonderful memories. Grab the popcorn, and come for a ride! This completely digital recording is crystal clear and an oversized insert includes pictures and fond memories of Merrick Price - to whom the album is dedicated. The last song was recorded on the carousel while it was moving - an innovative idea that captures the sensation of really being on the ride is enhanced by wearing headphones. This piece of Americana in music - a must for the audio collector, carousel enthusiast, or fan of mechanical music, is a one-of-a-kind gift item.

carousel.......2007-01-03
Carousel Memories does not have the luster that I had expected. The music is not as clear as I would have liked, however, it does have some good qualities that make it worth while to listen.
The Ideal Merry-Go-Round.......2005-07-18
This is a recording by and for merry-go-round lovers. It assembles 23 tracks of mostly characteristic carousel music, played upon a newly constructed band organ handmade by Belgian Johnny Verbeeck to replicate the old Wurlitzer 165 destroyed by a fire around 1995. The fire also claimed most of the carousel itself, which was rebuilt using some restored parts from the original (PTC#36). The recording site is Seabreeze Park on Lake Ontario in upper New York.
In another review I mentioned that that CD offered a partial and rather idealized carousel experience, for it could only provide the sound, and that sound was much more refined and free of ambient noise than would be encountered during an actual carousel ride. That comment applies as well to this recording, and perhaps more so, for the band organ in a typical operating carousel never sounded so good as the one here. This instrument has a remarkably lovely, sweet tone and, being brand new, is in perfect condition. The rolls used were obtained from no less a source than the Library of Congress, and represent a very choice selection.
The music itself includes mostly waltzes, marches, polkas, and one-time popular songs, such as Beer Barrel Polka, Sweet Rosie O'Grady, Liberty Bell, and Scatter-Brain. Less to be expected, but supremely apt, is the fine waltz from Richard Rodger's overture to the musical show Carousel. This last was experimentally recorded on the moving carousel, and thus provides an especially realistic auditory image.
For merry-go-round and band organ enthusiasts this recording might well occupy a place of honor in their CD collection. For those who desire a more realistic, though less ideal, recording I would recommend the old 1973 Takoma Records release "Last Chance on the Merry-Go-Round" (# A 1038), which I believe is no longer in the catalog. (Takoma Records was acquired in 1995 by Fantasy Records.) My personal copy of A 1038 is an LP, and I suspect no CD version was ever released. That recording was made at the carousel on the pier at Santa Monica, California, shortly before the pier was to be demolished. (Thus the title of the recording.) Since it was made while the carousel was actually in operation, the sounds of bystanders and children, along with the carousel drive motor are included. I don't know what ever became of that carousel or its band organ, but would guess they were moved to some collection somewhere. In any case, I have fond memories of wandering along the pier on a fine Saturday afternoon and watching and listening to the carousel and its excited young customers.

Eudemonic, one point in time for the Steve Kimock Band.......2005-09-16
The Steve Kimock Band (SKB) is an evolutionary musical vehicle for guitarist Steve Kimock and drummer Rodney Holmes. Long time listeners know that SKB thrives on improvisational live performances characterized by extended interplay among an everchanging set of extraordinary musicians. Eudemonic is a studio recording that documents one incarnation of SKB that included Alphonso Johnson (bass) and Mitch Stein (more guitar).
This album is a perfect introduction to Kimock. Eudemonic contains the essence of nine compositions by Kimock and/or Holmes. The standout track is The Bronx Experiment. This composition demonstrates the range of SKB's use of instrumentation and melodic themes.
Steve has spent his career perfecting guitar technique and tone. Fans know that live performance is the best way to enjoy the Steve Kimock Band. Quality recordings of these performances can be downloaded from either DigitalSoundboard.net or the Live Music Archive (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php). These recordings contain the music as well as audience participation. The studio album contains just the music. So, the trade off is between longer explorations of compositions with improvisation and crowd noise or a tight, studio recording with just the music. Eudemonic is not to be missed.
Beautiful..........2005-09-06
This CD is just a beautiful aural soundscape and a great example of why fans of Kimock just keep coming back for more "K-Waves". The song versions are different than what Kimock fans are used to live, but one shouldn't expect a studio disc to sound live. The disc manages to showcase Steve Kimock's virtuoso playing and dedication to flow and tone extremely well. My favorites are an exploratory "Ice Cream," the middle-eastern sounding "Bronx Experiment" played on the Octave Mandolin, and just a gorgeous "In Reply." But every cut on this disc is right on. Play it loud, listen carefully, and you won't be disappointed.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! HUGE LET-DOWN!!.......2005-08-31
Having anticipated this studio Cd for a long while, I have never been so disappointed in a CD as well as in Kimock. Most any of the live shows that you can download are better - why? Because they have more soul, more heart, more musical inspiration. This Cd is boring, flat and uninspiring and uninspired to say the least. It is nothing more than Kimock aural wallpaper that could be used as a demo trailer if he ever decided to go elevator music. I have been a big fan of Kimock for years, KVHW, etc....this one in a word SUCKS!
Solid Record....good idea of this incarnation.......2005-08-29
I had the opportunity to see this encarnation just after recording this album. What a solid group! Alphonso's phrasing and tone are so tasteful. I'm not sure as to why they decided to speed up Tongue 'n' Groove so much, it sounds a little strange...Not even coming from a perspective of hearing it a certain way for so long, and it changing, but because the tempo seems pretty normal in Steve's intro, then once the band kicks in, the tempo is a bit on top of the groove rather than relaxing behind.
The drums are a little dry and gated sounding which contrasts strangely with the reverberated guitars and keys. Some of Rodney's 'solo' type moments don't seem to have the same effect as they do in a reverberated stage mode where the kit sounds monsterous and booming.
I really enjoy the 'only can happen in the studio' tracking of the Bronx Experiment. Can't wait to hear some more acoustic instrument useage by Steve in the studio. I realize Bouncer was written right around the time of this recording, and debuted in the same set of shows I was at...but the studio version didn't seem to have much driving force and feel that the live version does. Some of this has to do with the dry sounding drums, some of it has to do with the effect being used on the intro theme guitar that hides the stretched out chord that sounds so thick live.
Overall, it's a great album. A wonderful gift and introduction to SKB for anyone. Buy a handful and give them as gifts for 2005 Holiday season.
Producing happiness and well-being........2005-08-24
This album is amazing. The skill with which everything has been crafted and made into something much more than the sum of it's parts reflects the Steve Kimock composes music. The artwork, pictures and color scheme blend together in a very intentional way. Even the "Thanks" section seems to be there not because it's always there, but because the band wanted to thank the special people in their lives.
The songs are jaw-drpooing. No single lick perfectly exemplifies the disk...yet every piece belongs. Not shouting for itself, rather paving the way for the next to come. The songs manage to perform this impressive balancing act by a means seemingly beyond explination, but well within comprehension.
Steve Kimock is the namesake of the band, but not always the focus. Every member feeds each other. Groovin to the lead guitar is very enjoyable, but only listening to that means you're missing the best interaction on the disk. The rhythm, bass, keys and drums all take their turns in the spotlight shining brightly enough to pass on the light to whoever finds it next.
Eudemonic is an experience. It is nothing more than what it is.

All I Can Say Is "WOW"!!!.......2006-02-20
I guess i am a little bit behind in the times, I just bought this album yesterday after hearing people tell me how great it is and of course it's links to a great band called Far. This album is amazing, I wish I bought it sooner. Every song on it is well written and great. The guitars are crunchy and the vocals are clean. They have a sound somewhere between Foo Fighters and Staind...But they are in no way just another mainstream rock act. "Above The Noise" has it's crushing moments of anger, "Bonethrower" and "The Ride Of Los Angeles" and it's slow jams "The Gift" and "Looking Down The Barrel". This record is a must have for fans of meaty, guitar driven hard rock. I just hope they put out another album. The best songs "Bonethrower", "The Gift" and "Payday". Check this album out and the band Far, if you can find them.
Insta-Classic.......2005-08-22
I recommend buying this for the hard rock tracks only. Great testosterone driven grunge dabbing in the arts of metal occasionally on this one. However, on the slower tracks like Payday, Looking Down The Barrel, etc.. It seems they overproduced and made it crappy. Find the demo versions of these songs to download (its incredible how much better the demo of payday is) along with some rarities like New Light, Come Together and make urself the perfect rock mixer cd.
Something Fresh To Listen Too.......2005-04-26
I admire this CD because it sounds like Nu-Metal but it doesnt Suck Ass like Nu-Metal the singer has a perfect voice for the music it matches it perfectly........the guitar work is Nu-Metal with a unique splash to it....somewhere along the way you will notice a guitar riff here and there.........anyways get this album because its better than the cover puts it out to be.......my favorite songs are (Payday) and (Future of an end)
Above Average performance of Average Music.......2005-03-17
I bought this album used, which is the way I think it should be bought. It isn't worth more then five bucks in all. I don't mean that overly negatively, it's just that this album doesn't have the umph it takes to make me fork over more then pocket change. I think the best way to sum up the sound of the Revolution Smile is if you were to take Josey Scott from Saliva doing one of their more mellow songs, on stage with Filter. Make any sense? How about this, if you are a fan of the Filter progression of things, meaning sweet vocals over acoustic guitar that blends into heavy yelling over distortion. In fact, now that I think about it, this album really does sound like a Filter album...huh? Anyways, there really aren't any standout tracks I can point you towards, "Cadilliac Ass" is cool and "Alien" ain't bad. Of course you'll want to sample the single "bonethrower" before you buy this used. If you want to understand why I keep comparing them to Filter listen to "I wish I" that about sums it up. Listen, if this sounds interesting or you like one of the samples, buy it used for a couple bucks, just be prepared to listen to it for a week and then lose it.
worthy.......2004-05-22
The old saying "never judge a book by its cover", really hits home on this CD. The name of the band and CD pics do not apply to whats inside. I thought it would be LOUD-ANGRY-HATE music. WRONG! Its not.. nowhere near that.
After hearing this CD 3 times, it is definitely one that I will go back to again and again. Musically, it wont break any barriers, but the way they mix up the tempo between songs helps make the music seem less like every other cookie cutter CD out there. It may not appeal to everyone out there, but IMHO there are at least 8 very good songs on the CD. The rest are somewhere in the filler range, but they dont suck either.

Album Description
Second in this popular series, and another hour of great band organ music, Volume II of Carousel Breezes continues the excellent selection (by Merrick Price, of Seabreeze Park) and quality of Carousel Breezes. Twenty four of the most requested songs at the carousel are found on this recording, and they begin with the ringing of the bell that starts each carousel ride. Fox-trots, one-steps, and two-steps, each melody captures the spirit of days gone by.

Product Description
Imagine a road trip in Nick Drakes old car, give Ryan Adams a seat, Grant Lee Phillips is there, maybe Beck has the wheel and Joni Mitchell is giving directions. The music theyd listen to would be pretty close to the music of David Berkeley. His voice is warm like a tumbler of bourbon. He believes in the lyrics he writes, and he sings them from the marrow of his bones. David Berkeley's newest CD, Live from Fez, captures a single show (February 22nd, 2005) with David's full band--their final show, in fact, before the legendary NY listening room closed. The emotionally-charged set features four new songs, including the hauntingly timely "Hurricane" and the heartbreaking "Glory." Also included are a sampling of crowd favorites from his first two studio albums, including "Red," "Little Fists" and a solo version of "Fire Sign," which David wrote for CBS-TVs 'Without a Trace.' The disc comes with a bonus DVD with footage of 4 of the songs from the concert at Fez. 'Live...' is the only album ever released from Fez and captures Berkeley at his emotional and comic best. "We wanted to give something back to the place that basically developed us," Berkeley explains. "Fez was really our home for a couple pivotal years. And I wanted to let people see and hear a show without any studio magic. I wouldn't have done it anywhere but Fez."
