EQUAL TEMPERAMENT (Eric & Stacey Jones) is a husband/wife percussion duo dedicated to the performance and generation of new works for percussion duo. The duo was founded in 1995 and has commissioned works by several composers including Erik Santos, Jeffrey Peyton, David Jarvis, and Thomas Brett.

Equal Temperament's Parhelion.......2000-08-06

Equal Temperament has assembled a first-rate compact disc. Most of the pieces on the disc were commissioned by the duo. The listener's interest is maintained because each piece sets up a unique sonic world - contrasting with each of the other pieces on the disc. The performers present very sensitive interpretations of the young composers' works. I recommend "Parhelion" to anyone interested in percussion music, the music of young composers or contemporary music.

A Must for Percussion Lovers.......2000-07-06

This CD is a must for all percussionists....and for all those who are just lovers of percussion. The performance of every composition is superb and stunning......executed with precision and drama. As composer of one of the selections ("Digga-digga...") it is wonderful to hear your music the way it was intended to be played. Eric and Stacey are a true talent and are sure to go far in the percussion world. Also, the recording quality is top notch...all done in natural reverb (It was recorded in a church!) with no added effects. Make sure you buy this CD...you wil not be disappointed!

As the composer of two works on this CD, I have to share my tremendous respect for the talents of these two gifted artists, and their impeccable performances of my works. They play with such enthusiasm and energy, it is a recording that I would recommend just for the performance alone. Blues Violin.......2005-10-08

The shufflin' syncopation of Zydeco makes it an ideal object for partying. With his roots approach, violinist Tom Rigney puts that happy feeling into his program while maintaining an historic appreciation for art. He mixes Jump Blues with Zydeco, and explores the many ways that this Southern music has affected us. Singing traditional lore, originals, and established standards, Rigney creates an instant party. Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" becomes an anthem for America's melting pot. Crawfish pie and fillet gumbo find their way onto everybody's dinner table. Kokomo Arnold's "Milk Cow Blues," featuring a slow, burning guitar solo by Danny Caron and a sizzling piano solo from Caroline Dahl, appears just in time to remind us that loneliness and the Blues go hand in hand. Rigney sings about it and follows with a pining violin interpretation to drive the message home. His "Do the Zydeco" gets your feet dancing in place to lyrics that paint a mental picture of these festive events.
Rigney, with 25 years on the San Francisco scene and a soulful dedication to Southern Louisiana dance music, founded Flambeau in 2000. You can hear audio samples from the album at www.rigomania.com. Singer/violinist/leader Rigney is the son of baseball legend Bill Rigney, who managed the Giants in the late 1950s, the Angels in the 1960s, and the Twins in the 1970s. He returned to manage the Giants in '76. Tom Rigney and Flambeau do for Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans Second Line what his father did for baseball. The bandleader's "Party Gras" sums it up, reminding us how much we need a little celebration every day.

Another magnificent array of songs. Classic, Cajun, Blues and Beautiful Waltzes. A master violinist and a very tight band all with great solos. As the CD reads "irresistibly infectious grooves". An excellent CD by far.

Tom Rigney's Music Will Touch You In Some Way.......2004-06-09

Tom brings together several styles and rhythm but there will always be the Blues, Zydeco and Cajun influence. His music will
cause you to want to dance, and ,it may even bring a tear to your eye.
He is a master fiddle player who knows how to communicate with the listener. No one has ever played with more feeling than Tom Rigney. One reason this CD rates so high on my list is because Tom surrounds himself with top musicians. I guess the term is "tight" to describe he and his wonderful band. This is a must CD.

Tom Rigney plays the Blues!.......2007-04-25

Tom has put together a great variety of Blues and "bluesy" tunes on this album, both classics and originals. Here you will find upbeat, bouncy pieces such as "Deep River Blues", slower, introspective pieces such as "Poor Wayfaring Stranger", and everything in between; including the most astonishing version of "House of the Rising Sun" you've ever heard.
Most of the tunes are instrumental, but Tom's vocals are great, too; especially on "That Nasty Swing".
And, yes; you can dance to everything on this disc! There's no waltz this time, but the original slow tune "Hold Me Tight" makes up for it.
Tom's fiddle is the lead instrument, of course, but all the Flambeau musicians are on here, as well; they're just listed as guest stars.

Parhelion is a moving album its wonderful guitar work which is complex will appeal to anyone who appreciates a fine guitar player such as scott, it is a good album with some well writen tracks although I think he should have concentrated more on his own material, Nick Drake is not easy to cover and it shows, brittle days is an example of what a good composer Scott was, if you like this you will aslo like Nine of Swords another Nick Drake inspired album from Scott Appel a fine musician in his own right

I've been listening to Tom's fiddle for years, and I find he just keeps getting better.
I really love this CD.
Tom's music is inspired by many different traditions and styles, lovingly arranged and performed by some wonderful musicians.
Every tune on this album will affect you emotionally. Many will make you want to get up and dance.
If you like fiddle music of any genre, and don't mind it being amplified, I think you will like this album.

I wasn't familiar with Tom Rigney when I saw him at the Millpond Music Festival in Bishop, California, three years ago. His fiddling absolutely blew me away. I bought this CD there and have nearly worn it out. It is probably the most dynamic album of instrumental music I have ever heard. If this doesn't kick your spirits up, nothing will!

Intelligent, Precise, Great stuff!.......1999-04-12

I came across Tom and his group at Lou's in San Fran. I regret not hearing his whole performance. This is the stuff that makes finding a new (to me) artist exciting. The more I listen the more I enjoy it. He changes almost effortlessly from Country to Pop to Italian ballad to Cajon and more and it's all wonderful.
