Editorial Reviews
Deseret News, Salt Lake City
"To hear the almost unbelievably imaginative penetration of such a virtuoso as Mr. Bloom, who gave us things we had never before heard from an oboe, is one of the great aesthetic privileges of our time."

Important Archival Oboe Material.......2004-02-12
Here as in Volume I, there are two personal interviews, this time by two double-reedists, Richard Woodhams and David McGill.
The performance of Vaughn Williams' Concerto for Oboe and Strings is particualarly striking. The "Pastorale" by Stravinsky with Tabuteau on oboe and Bloom on English horn is just amazing and historically very nice to have in one's collection.

One of America's Finest Oboists.......2004-02-07
Bloom loved the singing quality of the instrument, and thus a longtime player of Loree, he was known for his love of romantic period compositions, and emphasizing the singing quality of this virtuoso instrument.
Thus, Bloom's longtime participation in the Bach Aria Group. He also delved into composition and some conducting.
Here, fine works masterfully done of J.S. Bach, Handel, C.P.E. Bach, along with one of his own compositions "Requiem" as well as an exerpt from a radio interview on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Especially fond of his version of Bach's Chorale Prelude "Nun komm" der heiden Heiland.
Excellent stuff, the recording is not as perfect as the modern technology, as much seems live, but is great phrasing and intonation by this master player.
