The Best Recording of the King Kong Score.......2001-12-21

I own and have listened to all the recordings of the score to the film King Kong (1933). This is simply the best of them all. Fred Steiner's recording is even superior to Max Steiner's original soundtrack recording. The CD's only shortcoming is that Fred Steiner did not record the entire score. Most of the score is here, and it is magnificent.

A classic score.......2000-03-01

This recording was previously released but I couldn't get it before. That's why I'm glad to know that this magnificent score was re-recorded and is now avilable again. Fred Steiner reconstructed the score and, of course, this is the best recording ever made. Rhino and Ryko seals are trying to offer us old recordings with lots of dialogues... That's a pity.

Great rendition but INFERIOR to the John Morgan Reconstruction (w/MSO).......2007-01-02

I like this rendition of Steiner's classic score. It was the best up until John Morgan completely reconstructed the entire score and put the heart and soul into it that has Steiner smiling from up above. Therefore, I say forego this version and shoot for Morgan's (with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra).

Most noticeable: this "Jungle Dance" is lacking and sloppy. It doesn't provide the impact or power of the original score and has always bugged me. When you listen to Morgan's version, you'll love it and think, Yeah, that's it. that's the ticket!

The Best Recording of the 1933 Film Score.......2006-02-26

This is the best recording of the score of the 1933 film, King Kong. The sound quality is superb and utterly faithful to Max Steiner's original score. Highly recommended to fans of the 1933 film.

Folk music at its best.......2005-02-14

Simply a great album. Every track is good, and "Central Ave Romance", "Weight", and "Jesse's Mom" are excellent. The lyrics are solid and Nels' vocals complete the package, which is flawless. El Paso Eyepatch (the band) gives this album a full sound that you will be sure to enjoy. If you like Ryan Adams and John Mayor, then throw their albums away and buy this one... you won't regret it.
