Editorial Reviews
Joseph McLellan, The Washington Post - Sunday December 5, 1999
Virtuoso: Violinist Janice Martin, who played with great elegance and sensitivity in the final concert of the November Chopin Festival shows the same qualities plus virtuoso techinque in her first recording. The program, on the Sonoris label, includes John Corigliano's Sonato for Violin and Piano, Clara Schuman's Romance in D-flat, Ysaye's Sonata No. 3 and Saint-Saens's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. It is imaginatively chosen, technically awesome and beautifully played with pianist Rachel Franklin.
The Strad, Laurinel Owen - November 2001
"The disc shows her as a witty, elegantly perceptive performer in both the Romantic and 20th-century traditions."

Miami Herald says Janice Martin's Corigliano is best yet!.......2000-04-25
It's not always the big names who produce the most compelling sounds. Take Janice Martin, a young violinist whose CD was issued not by some major or even minor label, but rather was self-produced with help from government grants. Giving it a spin and hearing how she played John Corigliano Jr.'s Violin Sonata, it was immediately evident that, if recordings are to be believed, Martin is a stunning talent. And yet she's just one among dozens of remarkably gifted fiddlers vying for attention. John Corigliano Jr.: Sonata for Violin and Piano (1963); Clara Schumann: Romance in D-flat major, No. 1, Op. 22; Eugene Ysaye: Sonata No. 3 (Ballade); Saint-Saens: Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. Janice Martin, violinist; Rachel Franklin, pianist. Sonoris. $16. (Available through Amazon.com). Janice Martin, a Washington-based violinist who appeared as soloist last month with the Greater Palm Beach Symphony, makes her CD debut here with an intensely tangy, high-powered performance of the Violin Sonata that John Corigliano Jr. wrote for his father, Leonard Bernstein's concertmaster at the New York Philharmonic, back in 1963. Corigliano Sr., blindly opposed to his son becoming a composer, put the piece in a drawer and forgot about it until John Jr. became a famous composer -- then he recorded it. But Martin's supercharged performance of this youthful, masterfully written work is the best yet. Her disc also holds a fascinating Clara Schumann Romance, a fairly brilliant Ysaye solo sonata and quite effective Saint-Saens with piano accompaniment -- the better to let you hear the tricky violin part. This is playing of incisive drive, style and lyricism, crystal clear with dead-center intonation. The CD, underwritten in part by federal arts grants, is a good introduction to this emerging artist who, after studies at Indiana University and at Juilliard with Glenn Dicterow and Dorothy Delay, polished her repertory during a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, performing concertos with the Army Band. Rachel Franklin is the exceptionally sensitive accompanist playing a resonant Falconi concert grand to match Martin's borrowed 1685 Marquise d'Auria Stradivarius.
