One may never be able to go home again, but that hasn't kept Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel from trying every other decade or so. This two-CD plus DVD live set (recorded in December 2003 at the Meadowlands and Madison Square Garden) shows their musical chemistry has transcended the years--and no small amount of acrimony. But while their '80s live reunion was marked by an aura of celebration, this one floats on an undercurrent of bittersweet resolve. There's no mistaking the elegiac tone of the title track, while stark readings of "Hazy Shade of Winter" and "Sounds of Silence" can't help but evoke the scars of 9/11. A musical circle is completed as the Everly Brothers step in for a joyous "Bye Bye Love," while elsewhere Simon's musical restlessness inspires a subtly jazzy reworking of "Slip Slidin' Away" and Garfunkel adds his stately grace to his partner's "American Tune." The album concludes with S&G's first new studio recording in 30 years, the plaintive, irony-studded plea "Citizen of the Planet." --Jerry McCulley

Album Description
For an entire generation, the concert event of the new millennium was the 2003 Old Friends tour from Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Their first national concert tour in two decades, performing songs that rank among the most memorable of the '60s, was a sold-out sensation in more than 30 cities across the country. Now many of those unforgettable performances are heard on the 2-CD set Old Friends Live On Stage, as well as a DVD and a Deluxe Edition with both the DVD and the CDs. The songs of Simon & Garfunkel have never sounded better.

Like Drinking Vodka and Lime.......2005-12-24
Hello again people. I really have to stop handing out 5 star reviews this season like they were candy canes. However, if something is worthy of it - as this c.d./dvd set is - then I am justified. Simon and Garfunkel are just classic. I remember "The Sound of Silence" when it came out having such a big impact at the time. That was the season of alienation, and S & G really had their hand on the pulse.
A quick story. It was either late '66 or early '67, and I'm in school and this girl in front of me turns around and asks if anyone wanted tickets to see Simon and Garfunkel at Carnegie Hall? She had two. Gave them away "free" to me and someone else. I was way too young to go into New York City by myself. But I did anyway. Guess how much the tickets were? A whopping FIVE DOLLARS!!!! And that was alot for a concert at that time. Anyway... the concert was pure magic. Only Paul on guitar and harmonies. It was rich, lush and angelic. What can you say about a blend of vocals like this except that it is as near to perfection you can get. I have always remembered that concert as one of the best I've ever seen. I believe the c.d. "Simon and Garfunkel Live 1967" is as close to the concert that I saw.
Anyway..... when I heard they were reuniting for a concert tour, I just had to go. And, believe me, this time around the tickets were nowhere near as cheap. Still, I went to see them at The Continental Arena in N.J. on the night of December 8th, 2003 and was excited to find that they used part of that very night for the DVD. The evening was as excellent as the DVD shows, however, you viewers have the advantage of seeing them up close. It's hard to get a view like that 100 rows out or so.
This package is worth it - ten times over believe me. It is a retrospect of their career with excellent side musicians who recreate all the particulars of the original recordings and then some. S & G's mock feud bantering puts the audience in a great mood. The evening sails smoothly and the introduction of The Everly Brothers adds icing to the cake. Paying homage to their influences - S & G provide a genuine warmth to the concert.
I do want to point out one song inparticular. When they did "Bridge Over Troubled Water", Paul took the second verse. An interesting variation, but it works fine. Also, near the end, the piano goes into a strange key variation...... most noticably. I am assuming it was done to accomodate Garfunkel's ending to the song. In any event, the song was a mainpoint in a fine evening.
I could go song by song in this review but it would be a big yawn. Suffice to say - S & G are professionals and they definitely do not disappoint in this offering!!
If you are looking for classic pop music with alot of grace - an EXTREMELY HIGH recommendation for this one. Whew....that was hard. Being totally serious for a change is a difficult challenge. But Simon and Garfunkel are worth it! Goodbye for now people!
Buy IT!.......2005-11-12
I saw Simon and Garfunkel perform live on this tour and this DVD/CD perfectly captures the performance perfectly. For only a few extra dollars over the DVD version you also get two cds. I really can't say much more than if you like Simon and Garfunkel and their music this should be a must buy!
Highlights of the show are: an appropriate opening song (Old Friends/Bookends), an energetic version of Hazy Shade of Winter, a melancholic beautiful version of America, an upbeat energetic version of The Zoo, Homeward Bound (what can I say, one of my favorite S & G songs), American Tune (a Paul Simon song that sounds great sung by Simon and Garfunkel), Bridge Over Troubled Water with Paul Simon signing the middle verse (in the original version Paul Simon did not sing!) and the best song on the Cd; The Boxer (always such a powerful and moving song).
Gee but it's great to be back home..............2005-07-28
Love this album !! A heartwarming reunion and great music... They are both so musically talented and have just gotten better over the years.
Timeless.......2005-03-12
Wanna capture time in a bottle? Start here. This is an absolutely brilliant set from a duo who were amongst a '60s '70s movement who brought brilliant song crafting and writing to a popular culture which had previously been practically devoid of it (the occasional Cole Porter or Gershwin being exceptions).
It's great to see that the guys give a great and proper shout out to the Everly's, who were their harmonizing inspirations. Just about every cut is either equal to or surpassing the originals most of us are familiar with. The greatest duo in Pop/Rock/Folk history? I think so, my friends. Hear them here in all their glory, with great back up musicians (as always) and pitch perfect recording! It's the state of the art, as it should be for two talents who are indeed "artists" as well as highly prolific tunesmiths. What a night of music!

I love these guys!.......2005-03-11
I was at the concert in Dallas and I must say, some of the songs were better on stage here. But, that doesn't take away from these CDs at all. It doesn't matter to me whether they are still friends (as some have commented) what matters to me is the music. It was wonderful to see how they teamed up on tunes like "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Garfunkel obviously could not hit those notes anymore, but Simon stepped in with his version and it was great. It was Simon & Garfunkel -- new and improved. I loved the show and I love the CDs --

VERY RARELY ONE OF THE GREATEST DVDs : OLD FRIENDS.......2005-12-13
I hail from Singapore where I bought this DVD from my CD/DVD shop. It is a great watch, one that brings sane music into the
living room. You cannot get this kind of quality music and songs nowadays due to the lost direction music is heading towards nowadays in America.
I am full of nostalgia listening to the vintage voices of Paul and Art. I also got emotional because the songs reminded of mthe times I was a child. How I relive those times again and again as I listen to them. The duo emote and provoke a lot of sentiments.
How I wish they would get back together during this
time of their senior years. There will never be another Paul and Art. It takes a long time to produce another original Paul and Art.
Long Live Paul and Art. From : Singapore, 13 December 2005.
slow cd.......2005-09-15
if you like the fast song's then this is not the cd for you but if you want a slow and culm cd so this is the one for you
Depends what you like.........2005-06-15
I am a massive paul and art fan and naturally i bought this. It has a phenonomal set list filled with a nightsworth of enjoyment. However, if you are not a fan of nostalgia this CD will traumatize you. I personally almost fel traumatized to see video and photos of them as young kids and then see them as very old men, men that voices have weakened and look like 2 very old men. On that note, the product is breath taking, and your heart will glow with grace for the duo, but if you ar a fan of simon and garfunkel's literall sound this cd is not for you. The sound quality in it's own is shot and as said before the voidces while still containing gifts have declined. If you are looking for extremely great sound and phenonomal performance thiks is not for you, if you want simon and garfunkel live today with some flaws buy this cd.
Old Friends are STILL Energetic After All These Years!.......2005-05-20
Read the negatives of the other reviews BUT do yourself a favor: even if you're buying this used-it's well worth it! The subtle changes in the arrangements, great musicianship and transitions between the songs (I dare you to not get goosebumps between "My Little Town" and "Bridge..."),effortless vocals that, while occassionally showing their age, flow like you've never heard 'em! And the new song "Citizen of The Planet" is a must have because it speaks to what is happening in our world today.
"Old Friends" is a must for any S&G fan!.......2005-03-07
As one who could not 'afford' to go to see our boys, this DvD brings you there. It is a must buy! You will find yourselves watching it over and over and over again. A great way to see that yes, they are back together, in more ways than on stage. They had fun, being together, singing together and with the audience..advice? Turn off the phone, and for a few songs, get some kleenex handy..Only Living Boy in NY? Paul's emotions alone will get you..it got both of them..Enjoy!!

Album Description
1965's Entertain You sure will; it's one of their best LPs, a bracing blend of original hits (e. g. "Big Man in Town") and covers all the way from the street corner to the Great White Way! 1966's Live on Stage, meanwhile, wasn't really live; as was the case with many "live" albums of the day, it features fake crowd noise and spoken introductions from the group until they give the joke away by playing snatches of their hit "Sherry" while discussing which member of the group was most important to their success! Not an essential 4 Seasons record, but one of their most entertaining.
Customer Reviews:
Good First Half, Mediocre Live Half.......2007-02-13
I've been a HUGE Four Seasons fan since I was young and have strived to collect their entire catalogue. With these new releases, it leaves me one step closer. And, as with all obscure collections, sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.
This combo release is good, but the first contains a lot of "greatest hits" material you might already own, and the second half fails in song choice and arrangement.
The first album, ENTERTAIN YOU, starts off well and has some popular songs such as "Show Girl," "Bye Bye Baby," "Big Man In Town," "Betrayed," and "Toy Soldier." Odds are, however, that if you have any of their greatest hits, you might be double dipping with these. It does have other great hidden gems such as "Somewhere," "Living Just For You," and "Where Is Love?" that you can't find anywhere else. These songs are the diamonds in the rough that was previously stated.
The second album, LIVE ON STAGE, is a bit of a letdown. It is supposed to be a "live" album, but you can quickly see how it is a studio album with crowd noises dubbed in. This isn't too bad, but the choices of songs are a letdown. Even though it is a "live" album, we don't get any hits, but songs with a broadway type arrangement and lesser quality. The best part is the selection "How Do You Write A Hit Song." It is a unique selection and actually showcases all four seasons. The rest of the album is good if you want to hear an album full of Four Seasons songs that are not well known, but for the most part, it is not essential. LIVE ON STAGE is only for collectors such as myself who want as much Four Seasons output as you can get, even with the hits and misses.

Album Description
Limited Edition CD on the official Elvis collector's label, Follow That Dream/BMG Denmark, comes packaged in a 7 inch X 7 inch sleeve replicating an original vinyl single/E.P. release. Digitally remastered and expanded version of this 1974 live release, recorded in Elvis' hometown of Memphis, features the entire performance in superior sound quality. The original release was poorly mixed and many of the show's best moments were cut from the release, but now you can enjoy every breathtaking moment as Elvis originally intended you to hear them! Still at the top of his game, this rates as one of the fans' favorite performances.
Customer Reviews:
Fabulous.......2007-04-09
this record is simply outstanding, fabulous, amazing, stupendous, elvis is the best and here the best is at his best. buy it blindly, you will not thank me enough for following this recommendation. one of those shows i would easily have given away one year of my life to have been there.
A Very Good Live Album.......2006-10-09
I bought this album in 1988 on cassette and it still plays excellent.
This is Elvis' next to last LIVE album and it stands up on its own still today. Performed at the Mid-South in Memphis, Elvis is in fine voice for this concert, the band and the back-up singers keep everything extremely tight. By 1974 Elvis had added additional singers in a group he called VOICE, which created amazing vocals. On this album Elvis has included a great song list, which he does "Elvis style" giving them a distinctive sound. I have listened to several Elvis concerts (on the all Elvis satellite radio) that he performed after this particular show, and you really start to notice the change in his performances. Elvis is at his best during this show, and he sounds like he is having a great time performing.

This is only for Head East fans.......2006-12-29
If you do not know who Head East was, then do not bother with this (that was kind of a starnge statement since only a Head East fans would be here right now). If you are a fan, then this is a good cd.
This must have been taken from the double live lp from the 70's. That was a much appreciated live album in the midwest region of the U.S. Where I am from (Chicago), "Since You've been gone" received a decent amount of airplay.
For the Head East fan, you have all of the cream off of "Flat as a Pancake". I know that this cd does not have the whole double live songs, but when you think of it...who cares! There is not a big catalog and market for Head East so be lucky with what you got!
The quality of the recording is good enough, the best songs are here, the band is powerful and rambunctious and you can relive your youth listening to Head East. In fact, the shorter album is more indicative as to how most people were exposed to them...they were always a warm up band for somebody else. Most people (unless your from St. Louis, their hometown,) got turned onto this band when they were warming up for someone else.
This is a fun, driving, typical 70's live album on par with live REO, Foghat or Grand Funk. This band does the live thing better than many of the posers from today.
Go ahead (your probably in your 40's and from the midwest) invest the big $5.00 that you can acquire this cd for and make the purchase.
Why We Are Only Getting Half an Album.......2006-05-20
I am a modest Head East fan. I only own the Flat As A Pancake cd and the Millenium series disc. I'm writing this review because I find all the comments about this Live disc amusing. "Why only half an album?" "What's with the wrong sequencing of songs?" "Legal issues?"!
For one thing, this kind of stuff has nothing to do with The Band. So don't get mad at them or accuse them of being greedy (like alot of Kansas fans think). This has everything to do with the record company, A&M Records, simply doing a quick money-grab for your (the fans) wallet. They know people have been wanting this 1979 Live set to be released on cd for years. So, what do they do? Release an edited version of poor quality that was obviuosly "thrown together" on one disc at a low price to entice people to purchase it.
Some people probably thought it was the complete show until they played it and began to wonder "What happened to the rest of the show?"
This reminds me of Tesla's Live cd. There are none other than four different versions: the complete 20 song, 2-disc version on Sanctuary Records; two "Extended Versions" on one disc (10 songs) on "Collectables" and BMG Special Products; and another called Standing Room Only containing 13 tracks.
The record companies justify the single disc versions as a "lower-priced" alternative to reach younger fans. At least there are all these choices. A&M Records chose to offer up only one choice until nobody is purchasing that version anymore, and then they will release a complete version and take even more of your money at a later date. Just stand by and watch.
I'm going to wait.
Good for half an album.......2005-11-26
The music is great for just being half an albums worth from the original. Still it is Head East! If someone ever brings out a better live recording from their hayday, I will certainly buy it cause I love Head East. Saw them in K.C. 1976, and they were so good. They opened for KISS and I couldnt tell ya who I enjoyed more, they were both DAMNED good
Half of the original Live album but still it's good........2005-10-29
I heard the original Live on vinyl and recorded it to cassette tap in the early 80's. I think the other reviewers are a little to harsh on the sound quality as I was impressed with the CD tracks which for me beat the original vinyl recording.
Ditto on the comments about messing with the order of the songs. It takes from the energy of the performance. I found myself editing "Since You Been Gone" / "It's For You" / "Never Been Any Reason" back into the proper order they were recorded in sequence during one show on the "Live" album. It's a great set. I did a better job recombining them than they did cutting and pasting apart.
"Take a Hand" by Rick Springfield and "Its for You" by Lennon / McCartney won't be found on any studio album. They are both great tracks.
I'd give it 4 stars (almost 5) if they gave us all of the original tracks.
When cars only have a radio and CD player........2004-02-22
Live music never had great sound quality. Live music is great because of the audience participation that deminishes sound quality in the first place. If you are a fan of a band and you love listening to live music (via a CD) blasting on your minivan CD player (compared to the junk that's blasted today from cars) as you sit in traffic, then buy the CD. It's great to listen to great music from the 70's and this CD is no exception. Buy it and enjoy it for what it's worth. We didn't have digital music in the 70's so the lack of perfect sound quality never existed back then. It's only a few bucks!! Buy it and ENJOY!! I love it.

Customer Reviews:
This concert was recorded live, right here in the Mid-South Coliseum, in Elvis' hometown, Memphis, Tennessee........2007-01-03
This concert album was recorded live March 20, 1974 in Memphis. It was Elvis' fifth live album, not counting albums that were partially live. The entire concert is not on this CD, but the whole concert has recently been released on a different CD. I would call this an average Elvis concert. There are several songs that have been on too many concert albums; like "See See Rider", "I Got a Woman", "Love Me", "An American Trilogy" and of course "Can't Help Falling in Love". The highlights of this CD are the gospel songs, which always brought out the best in Elvis. He performed three of them this time around; "How Great Thou Art" (always a powerful performance), "Help Me" (he had recently recorded this song, this is the first live recording) and "Why Me Lord" (first recording of this song, J.D. Sumner sings the verses and Elvis sings the chorus). This album also includes Elvis' first recording of "Let Me Be There", which was Olivia Newton-John's first big hit. I might mention that the Loggins & Messina hit "Your Mama Don't Dance" is part of the "Rock and Roll Medley", but the King only sings a tiny portion of that song. One final thing worth mentioning; the piano player plays the intro to "I Can't Stop Loving You" and Elvis sings "Blueberry Hill" instead, just to be funny (he does soon switch over to "I Can't Stop Loving You"). If you really want this concert on CD, you'll probably want the complete show instead of this one, but that is an expensive import.
3 1/2 Stars: His Best 70's Live Recording.......2005-05-28
This oft-ignored album, recorded in March 1974 at Memphis's Midsouth Coliseum (formerly the center of controversy when the proposed title, the Elvis Presley Coliseum, was poo-pooed), is easily his strongest live package of the '70s, the one worth having. Elvis is in exceptional vocal form and, between all the stuff that showed up on every other live album of the period, there is a great "Trying To Get To You" and strong versions of "My Baby Left Me" and "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy," material he otherwise left unnoticed. - by Neal Umphred, AMG

Customer Reviews:
My favorite Getz album.......2004-03-14
A beautiful album. "What Do You Want" is one of my very favorite songs of all time. It's an evocative, melancholy reflection, with a particularly memorable line: "Sometimes there is just too much "after' in your afternoon."
Getz is a gifted performer and songwriter who deserves to be widely heard.
A pleasing voice and acoustic guitar.......2003-05-19
A pleasing voice, heart-felt lyrics and a guitar is all she needs to make beauiful music and a new fan.
That beautiful voice and guitar is all she needs........2003-05-18
My favorite CD of Kerry's, as brief as it is. It showcases her sublime skills at singing and guitar playing, stripped down and pure, the way she shines the best. This CD contains several of my favorite songs of hers: "Why am I So Uncool?" "The Forgiveness Hoop" and the heart-breaking "What Do You Want," one of the deepest and truest songs I've ever heard, by anyone. This is a perfect CD for those listeners out there who don't know Kerry, because you'll hear her the way all of her fans have heard her over the years, on her own at the mike with only her beautiful voice to carry you away.
Live at the Galaxy.......2003-05-14
Great introduction to a wonderful singer/songwriter. And at $... per song it's a great bargain.
As I listened to this CD, I had to keep remembering that there is no band. Just Kerry and her guitar. The sound was so full. Each song highlights her unique guitar playing and the lyrical strength of her voice.
I was hooked by the first song "Why Am I So Uncool" (who can't relate to this feeling at some point in their life) and I loved her rendition of "Walk Away Renee".
kerry does it again!.......2003-05-13
Kerry's sultry voice will captivate you in Another Fine Mess; and After All This Time touches your soul.

After decades of shoe-gazing angst and angry young musicians raging against one thing or another, it's often hard to remember that the original punk/new wave explosion of the late '70s was fueled as much by innocent abandon as anger. How much affection New York indie power-poppers Too Much Joy have for the likes of the Dickies, Circle Jerks, or Rezillos is debatable, but their flail versus wail quotient remains promising. This live album (recorded in Washington, D.C. in '97, and handpicked by the band as a representative favorite) takes more than its cheeky design cue from the Who's mock-bootleg Live at Leeds; it's filled with boundless energy, careening musical inertia, and a self-mocking irony that's as snotty as it is endearing--and they don't treat "Happy Jack" too shabbily, either. And if the oft loony 'tude of songs like the commercial mockeries "You Will" or "King of Beers," and deep ruminations like "I Believe in Something" or "The Kids Don't Understand" lie somewhere mid-south of They Might Be Giants' and Barenaked Ladies' furrowed brows, perhaps it's because TMJ realize big brains only hurt worse when you treat your head this carelessly. And how can you not like a band whose finale is an uplifting take of its own "Theme Song"? --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Live album recorded 9/18/97 at The Bayou in Washington, DC.
Customer Reviews:
horrible sound quality.......2004-01-16
i was a big fan of TMJ back in the day. still own the original "son of sam i am" and "cereal killers" cd's. but the sound quality on "live at least" is horrible. to equate, put in your favorite cd in your home stereo, turn up the volume to above average, and now put your hands over your ears. that's pretty much how this cd sounds... instruments are very muffled and flat, vocals do nothing but echo like they were performing in the grand canyon. this cd isn't worth $4.99, let alone $14.99. i wouldn't even recommend it to a hardcore TMJ fan.
Wow........2003-02-02
I never heard of Too Much Joy. My roommate gave me the CD after he bought it by accident (trying to buy Live At Leeds! Idiot.). Anyway, he did me a major solid. It's simply amazing. Now I want to know all about them. And I wish they were still playing live. This Cd is just more fun than just about anything else that lives in my car. On the other hand, don't waste your money on the Wonderlick CD that comes paired with it. But Too Much Joy rocks bigtime.
Joyful Chaos.......2002-04-01
While not as polished as their studio recordings, and not as polished as many other bands' live offerings, Too Much Joy's "Live At Least" captures the essence that made them great and woefully underrated. Amid the self-conscious stage patter, the missed cues and sometimes random sound mix, this recording offers some of the best of their insightful and playful lyrics, smart melodies and creative arrangements. Plus, it's about the only place left to get any versions at all of many of the songs, since the albums they originally appeared on have gone out of print.
If you have no Too Much Joy at all, buy "Finally," first. But once you've got that one, buy "Live At Least" to keep it company.
As rocking as I remember them.......2002-01-05
Finally a Too Much Joy CD that captures the band the way I remember seeing them live. I only saw them once when someone dragged me along to see another band they were playing with that we've both long since stopped caring about but I was totally blown away. It's hard to put into words what was so amazing, they just were. It went beyond the playing and the singing and even the stage antics. It was like being a part of something special and secret. Unfortunately secret. Once we "discovered' them I naturally went back and found the records. I liked ...Finally the best but they all had something great. But nothing like what I saw that day. Naturally I had to buy their video but honestly that was really dissapointing. Thanks to Live At Least I at least now know it wasn't all in my head. They were at least sometimes the best band ever. This can't hope to be as amazing as being there but it's damn close. Even if this is your only introduction to TMJ you won't be disappointed. The only down side is it has me longing again to see them come to my town soon.
Kicking yourself for never having seen them live??.......2001-12-20
As anyone who is a Too Much Joy fan will tell you, their live shows are something to see, and many times better (if that's possible) than what you get on any recorded medium. If you've seen their video, Dante's Disco Inferno (available at their sayhername website), and seen the live concert footage, then you know that this album is not to be missed. And if you haven't, then you must. Really. Would I lie? No. Not to you. Especially since the quality is crystal clear on this baby!
The essence of TMJ lies in the wit and intelligence of their lyrics, and the reflection in their music. This is heard in the banter between songs (well, maybe not intelligence), and presentation of their music. Especially when you get to hear covers and non-standards, such as Kicking, which I was delighted to find here.
So, if you somehow missed hearing TMJ live during their brilliant touring career, don't deny yourself the opportunity to catch one of the best shows I ever saw. The Bayou in Washington, DC (may it rest in peace) was a venue that highlighted TMJ at their finest. The size was perfect, the sound system pretty good, and the shows almost always sold to capacity. This show, as well as the show where the Secret Service showed up (due to an Ambassador's attendance), rank up there with the best ever. It was long, it was loud, and it was Too Much Joy.
I waited a long time to hear this show again in all it's unedited glory, and it was well worth it.
