Customer Reviews:
Good performance on a mediocre instrument.......2005-12-19
I am sorry to give a blatan criticism about this album, but it has been a long time this cd keep me confused.
it sounds dry harsh, metallic, shallow, superfacial, unnaturally bright, especially the timber is boxy, very dull even worse than a miniature version of Pleyel.the more I try to be tolerant, the more get annoyed, and even headache.definitely the worst and frivolous sound I have ever heard on a harpsichord to day on over hundrels of recordings in these 7 years since Pleyels lost my interest.it really sounds like a poorly botched baby tickle toy.
there are some recordings on instruments from the same workshop also in the similiar case.Read review on Forqueray suites VOL.2 from the same player thats another complaint
about headache given by the same instrument builder. Mr Beausejour, however,a good performer and Fischers music is dramatic, colourful, grandiose, elegant,in my opinion is all ruined and rendered pale, superfacial by this immature instrument here.poor Fischer,on an accordion might sound better!I am going to get Meyersons recording, which is a blend of expressive playing and superb timber and standard period resonance.if you are looking for Fischers suites, beware of this series,it bores me whenever I try to enjoy.now I am about to get rid of this disc once I get another version of Fischer.I was told it was inspired to as a hemsch-blanchet mix.but Hemschs are never a dull box thought it has particularly deep resonance.
at last I have to say I can not believe the instrument played by Mr Scott Ross on Goldberg variation recording from ERATO is from the same workshop, which sounds good,at least did not fail to please me for many years.
5 star for Mr Beausejour, minus 3 stars for his bad choice of instruments.
