Moving up to a major label has hardly lifted Interpol's spirits. This is a good thing. Even with the twisted Wild Kingdom album cover and bassist Carlos Dengler's unexpected Wild West makeover, on its third studio album the black-clad New York quartet still sounds inflexibly menacing, grasping tighter than ever to its doomy post-punk influences and delving further into frontman Paul Banks's emotional unrest. Everything sounds a little bigger and brighter, sure, but at their core songs like "Rest My Chemistry" and "Wrecking Ball" are heroically sinister, goaded on by prickly riffs and slow-bleeding rhythms. The group briefly jumps to life on the buzzing "Heinrich Manouver" and exhibits an unexpected dash of humor on "No I in Threesome," but it's the closing "Lighthouse" that best defines the set--a late-night lament that simply steals away into the dark. --Aidin Vaziri

Our Love To Admire is at once unmistakably Interpol and undeniably new. The witty and perverse "No I In Threesome" is an upbeat ode to shaking up a staid relationship propelled by Carlos D's peerless bass melody while the tenderly observant "Pace Is the Trick" proves that the band are still the masters of the dramatic - check the painful pause right before the sinfully satisfying return of Sam's thundering drums and Daniel's ringing lead guitar. The band's impressively seductive evolution is obvious all over the record, but never more so than on tracks like "Mammoth," "Who Do You Think" and on the album's lyrical centerpiece, the ghostly "Rest My Chemistry." While Daniel is understandably proud of the song he cautions against reading too much autobiography into its lyrics. "We always leave the interpretation to the listener," he says. "I mean, you shouldn't watch a movie for the first time listening to the director's commentary!"

Our Love to Admire closes with "The Lighthouse," a funereal dirge that is among the most unexpected and memorable songs ever recorded by the band. Almost entirely percussion-free, the song is constructed around Daniel's mournful guitar and Paul's sparten lyrics. Not only is it one of their finest moments to date, it provides the album's most goose-bump inducing moment, the very same reflex shivers that make Interpol live shows such an exhilarating experience. As the very last song the band recorded for the album it was, they say, the hardest to play. The hypnotic guitar part was played on a 50-year-old guitar that had toxins on the strings, providing Daniel with a blistering and painful sensation in his fingers. The band weren't even sure the track would make it out of the studio, but once they heard Paul's remarkable vocals they were floored. The song - and the album - doesn't so much end as it bleeds to a close with a long, echoey coda filled with feedback and strings. A fittingly dramatic end to a stunning and emotional journey. Interpol is back, every bit as good as before but charged with a new spirit, a new direction, a new label and, most of all, a new confidence.

The album sounds a little different, but after a few listens it definitely grows on you. This album is definitely on the same level as Turn On The Bright Lights. I highly recommend this album.

No, INTERPOL does not break any major new ground with this release.

Is that a bad thing? Not at all.

Interpol has truely come into its own sound and OLtA is a tight set of tracks that had me reaching for the repeat button after the first listen. It grabbed me right away and just keeps on getting better. From the catchy first track all the way to the ambient epic of the last, this is one cohesive album that just SOUNDS GOOD!

Any fans of the previous two should not be dissappoint with this one, and people who like the favor of some 80s New Wave in their contemporay music should be pleased as well.

Three strong albums -- I have high hopes for number four!

Subtle Darkness.......2007-07-11

This is the third cd I've purchased from Interpol, and I'm hooked. Turn on the Bright Lights is still my favorite because it's flawless. Our Love To Admire functions differently as it is slightly disturbing for its nuance's. The album art describes this very well. We see nature at in it's most raw and primal form, but thats just how it appears. The animals are all staged and most likely all stuffed carcasses. I believe this is the reason for the long wait. The concepts here are more complex. This isn't just a happy hum-drum album. We have music that appears one way on the surface, but a deeper truth is there. The beautiful sadness of Interpol is fully developed here. The record feels very balanced (covering a full spectrum of emotions and tempos). Perhaps people were expecting something dramatically different or exactly the same from Interpol. I expected the unexpected, and I'm pleasently surprised by the depth of this record. It seems like all their records have grown on me and this one is no exception. There's enough at first listen to keep me interested and then the songs begin to get their hooks in me. So just listen and enjoy. A hasty judgement overlooks Interpol's best features. The haunting melodies that linger in our heads.

A lot to admire!.......2007-07-11

"Our love to admire" is my introduction to the music of Interpol. Chiming melodic guitars and a brooding melancholic feel best describes the sound of this CD.

Interpol is a New York based quartet, but you'd be forgiven for thinking they were British. Think an edgier Coldplay or Snow Patrol, or even better, Joy Division.

Opening is the gentle lilting "Pioneer to the falls" with tumbling guitar sounds. More upbeat is the humorous "No 1 in the threesome" which still manages to sound gloomy.

"Scale" is a midtempo charmer, and lead off single "Heinrich maneuver" is a dance rocker a-la Franz Ferdinand. It's a kiss off to an ex.

"Mammoth" is another upbeat number with wonderful chiming guitars. Other upbeat numbers are "All fired up", and "Who do you think".

On the slower side of things, there's the lovely "Pace is the trick", the choppy "Rest my chemistry", the atmospheric "Wrecking ball" (with a name like that, I was expecting a rocker), and the dirge-like ambient epic "Lighthouse" (with percussion kicking in towards the final minute) which to me wouldn't be out of place on a Radiohead CD.

There's a whole lot to admire on this CD.

Interpol continues being... Interpol.......2007-07-10

After a startling and instantly classic debut album (2002's Turn On the Bright Lights) and an upbeat but less ambitious sophomore set (2004's Antic), Interpol made the jump to the major labels, and then took its sweet time to come up with new material. Finally here comes the much anticipated new album.

The music on "Our Love to Admire" (11 tracks; 47 min.) generally seems to fall within two categories: on the one hand there is the continuation of more upbeat songs, with the prime example being the first single "The Heinrich Maneuver" ("Slow Hands" Part 2, but even catchier), but also on songs like "No I in Threesome" and in a strange way also on "All Fired Up" (with the main guitar riff seemingly lifted straight from Radiohead's "I Might Be Wrong"!). Other songs fall within the more ambitious TOTBL-like category, such a mesmorizing slowburner (and album opener) "Pioneer to the Falls", "Pace is the Trick", "Rest My Chemistry", and the closer "The Lighthouse", which is haunting in many respects and the perfect way to close things of. There are unfortunately also a couple of songs such as "The Scale" and "Who Do You Think" that don't grab you and really don't seem to fit in very well in this set.

Interpol has not gone into any new musical direction or even expanded dramarically on what it has done before, which some might call a lack in ambition. But there are a lot of great tunes on this album, and in the end that is what it's about. I saw Interpol play a number of the new songs at Coachella a few months ago, and live they sound better than ever, including on the new songs.

Sometimes the Memory is Better than the Reality.......2007-07-12

What a disappointment! I adored this record when it came out; it was so different than most then current pop music, calling upon traditions which we scarcely new of at the time. So while highly innovative pop music FOR IT'S TIME, I've since gone on to hear the real older music from which Pepper drew; after listening to Fletcher Henderson my standard for being impressed by innovation has risen considerably. Worse though, the HORRIBLE sound quality deemphsizes all the interesting effects George Martin got. Some of these same tunes are on the Yellow Submarine DVD; they sound fine there so maybe my memory isn't that bad. I'll bet the vinyl version is/was better.

I can't decribe how much I love this album. I strongly believe that this is the groups best album and the best album that's ever been released. It's meant to be a studio album and not played live cause the guys were just so sick of touring, and it just was the only way with this new direction they were going in.

Paul came up with the concept after hearing about Elvis' Car went "On Tour." He thought that Sgt.Pepper would be an interesting concept to have these alter egos, so the music "wouldn't be songs that they necessarily wrote, but Sgt.Pepper did." The opening track "Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and " the Reprise are really the only songs that directly match up with the concept, but the songs inbetween are just as close to perfect as one could get them to be.

With a little help from my Friends is great, but I personally like Joe Cocker's version better (the one from the Wonder Years.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was written after a drawing Julian lennon did and commonly thought of to be a drug song. It's one of my favorite Lennon songs. I love the intro with Paul's Bass, it's so simple but it just hits my ear drums the right way.

Getting Better is about the time when John was really falling for Yoko.
I love George's guitar in Fixing a Hole. It sounds a lot like (Ticket to Ride)

She's Leaving Home is a sad song that's got McCartney written all over it.
The following track has that weird surreal circus sound that's very fitting for the album. George Martin was great at helping the group come up with new sounds.

Within You Without You often goes unnoticed i think. It's a great song by George, that I think is great, the sound, the lyrics, etc.

Lovely Rita and When I'm Sixty four are nice little tunes but not very fitting i don't think, I would have liked to have seen Strawberry Fields be on this album cause it was the first track recorded during the sessions and because it's a great lennon song.

I like the randomness of Good Morning Good Morning. The title comes from a Corn Flakes commerical that John overheard when he was writting one day.

A Day in the Life is right after the reprise. I love how John and Pau tied in their separate parts with a great orchestral crescendo. Everything just goes together and it just works.

Definitely pick this album up if you haven't or download it or check it out at your library cause it's a must have for any music fan or art fan cause this is such an important album in music history and it changed music forever, no joke.

Classic Beatles...Must Have.......2007-06-26

Takes me back to my youth. My kid loves it and doesn't believe I know all the songs and the order they are in on the CD.

It begins with a twittering of birdsong lifted from "Across the Universe." And once the triple-tracked a capella harmonies of "Because" enter, followed by snatches from "A Hard Day's Night" and "The End," leading into a fired-up "Get Back," it becomes obvious that this is far more than just another Beatles compilation. This is Love, conceived by the Fabs' former producer George Martin and son Giles as a stageshow soundtrack to Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas spectacular of the same name, but appears to have taken on a life of its own. Whereas the Beatles' last release, 1, delivered the (over?) familiar hits in a nice, simple package, Love is a mélange of the familiar and obscure, all literally mixed together in one 78-minute audio collage which succeeds in reminding the listener just why the Beatles truly are, as Lennon put it, "toppermost of the poppermost." There's no new Beatles material per se, but the songs are all approached differently--some are cut together in a flawlessly mixed medley (check out "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!/I Want You/Helter Skelter"), some reassemble different backing tracks and vocal performances to create new spins on old classics; but all the songs are revitalized considerably. Even in its weakest moments (which probably work better in the context of the show itself), Love is still a formidable prospect, and one has to admire Martin's willingness to go out on a limb with such a project. While purists may complain that the cut 'n' paste nature of the project is simply tampering with perfection, at the very least it'll make them reach for the originals and enjoy them all over again. For newcomers and everyone else, it makes a fine listen, both in its sonic clarity (the actual tracks are the best they've sounded on CD) and audacious nature. --Thom Allott

I was 15 years old when the Beatles hit. I have been a super fan from the start.

These tracks are superior in their quality and you can hear the harmonies better in both the vocals and instrumentation.

In many tracks the music is interwoven with music from other Beatles songs, making them..in my opinion..better. George Martin should definetly go into the vault and do more of the same. I am hearing things I have never heard before. Strawberryfields was terrific. This CD is a must have.

George Martin, the man who made The Beatles awesome, has done it again. He has just made me a renewed Beatles fan.

LOVE, a 2006 compilation of remixes, is the only remix album which I think has deserved my full $15.00. It is, like the 1 compilation, a compilation of almost 30 of their coolest tracks. It has a few beats changed, and a few classic songs mashed together to make them how they would've been.

Don't let the title LOVE fool you- LOVE is 26 tracks long, and dosen't have 26 love songs on it. It's 26 tracks of pure awesomeness.

Let me make a few notes about a few of the the tracks on this album:

-The biggest single is the Tomorrow Never Knows/ Within You Without You.
-Some of the songs on here are alternated. For example, in "I am the Walrus", the drums are different.
-All of the songs lead into each other, as if the entire album is one looong song.
-Did I mention this only has the best tracks on it?

So forget the 1 compilation. This complation will BLOW YOU AWAY. It will also renew old fans and get them back to their Beatles listening habits, like it has done to me.

And also if you want the real deal, I reccomend you get Love (CD + Audio DVD). It's a DVD and a CD, and the CD has the entire album in a 5.1 mix.

So buy this today!

Love The Beatles.......2007-07-04

The sound on this CD is incredibly clear and rich. It's like having the group in your living room. Unbelievable, and the nuances are great from George and Giles Martin.

Cirque du Soleil's LOVE.......2007-07-03

What a gem of a compilation of Beatle tunes arranged for the unique production of Cirque du Soleil, also of the same title, LOVE! I bought it without even listening to a track from the CD. I knew I was going to LOVE it!

To gauge the magnitude of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's popularity in his native Hawaii, consider this: following his death in 1997 (at age 38, attributed to his profound obesity), Kamakawiwo'ole's body lay in state in the state capitol, only the second person to receive such an honor. Kamakawiwo'ole's appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently passionate voice, which can float through higher registers with an ease that brings Johnny Mathis to mind. Lovely.......2007-07-04

I first heard this song by IZ "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at the end of the movie "Fifty First Dates" and I liked it. Then I heard it over the intercom at work. At that time, I did not know who sang it but I liked it so much I searched the net and found it here on Amazon. I love the music and the way he put the 2 songs together, it's very soothing and Israel had a wonderful voice. This is one of those tunes that stays in my head forever. I love the cd even if I only listen to that one song. Sometimes my 6 year old granddaughter asks me to hear my "Rainbow Song"!

This man has the most beautiful voice, spirit and soul. I received the CD in the mail yesterday 6/26/07. That day marked 10yrs that IZ had passed -the sun was out and it rained for 5 minutes...there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

I've just "discovered" Iz, and have bought this CD plus another one. Now I'm tempted to buy everything he ever produced. This giant of a man was a rare talent, and had the most wonderful voice - I'm so sorry to learn that it's been silenced.

I bought this CD for the beautiful "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World". I've heard only clips of this song before, and was enchanted, but didn't know the artist's name. I've been searching for many months, and finally learned it was him. The song is one of my favorites on this CD, but two others are every bit as captivating. "Ka Huila Wai" simply carries me away to a magical place, and "Ka Pua U'i" has nearly the same effect. The rest of the songs are good, but those three alone make this CD worth having.

It's tempting to read these songs--many about hope in the face of potential heartbreak--as an adjunct to Keith Urban's own tabloid-fodder life, which lately reads "ex-junkie country star marries Nicole Kidman, enters rehab." But his three previous albums have similar dark undertones. That would also be an underestimation of Urban's creative powers, which are broad enough to balance assembly-line Nashville pop with emotionally fine-tuned artistry. Breezy rockers like "Faster Car," sweet hooky ballads like "Shine," and readymade big-chorus hits like "Once in a Lifetime" rub elbows with more complex numbers like "I Can't Stop Loving You"--an essay about sad courage that starts with an acoustic guitar and adds instrumental textures as it unfolds--and "Stupid Boy," a tale of loss and self-discovery. It's no coincidence that both those songs climax with Urban's own crying guitar solos. As a player, his bold, midrange-heavy tone complements his most nuanced vocal performances. Another highlight is "Raise the Barn," which Urban co-wrote and sings with Ronnie Dunn. The cheerful tune, inspired by the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, is a tribute to the durability of the human spirit--a subject Urban seems to know more than a little about. --Ted Drozdowski

I love Keith Urban, but this is the first album I've purchased of his. I love "Stupid Boy" along with a number of others, however some of the songs just didn't really do much for me. I was just a tad disappointed. It was a good album but not a great one.

Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy thing is a great album. There are love songs filled with the emotions that I can relate too. There are sad songs and there are silly songs. Its is a true compilation of the emotions that we all feel every day put to great tunes. I personally feel that Keith's poetry is beautiful. He is the whole package. The passion that he feels for life and his music come thru loud and clear. Love his look, love his voice, love his talent. Can't go wrong with this album whether you are a country music lover or rocker.......its all here. Rock on Keith and keep sharing your love, pain and crazy things :)

This Pretty Boy Country Rock moves this Cowboy.......2007-06-01

Now I'm a hardscrabble, no holds barred, put up or shut up kind of dude. So, I didn't think these poignant ballads and mid-tempo rockers would agree with my aggressive and in-your-face attitude. Boy was I wrong!

By the end of this CD, I was just twirling round the room thinking about how my life would have been different, if I hadn't been too proud to take that drama class I wanted to. So yes, there is some regret. I think I could have been a powerful performer along the lines of Rob Lowe in St. Elmo's Fire or Freddy Prinze Jr. in the ABC smash hit sitcom, "Freddie."

Not sure why a film star of Prinze's magnitude would take a sitcom role, but what do I know. I'm just a rough cat from the badlands of Brentwood.

Anyway, I want to thank Mr. Urban for giving me the courage to see that my life has been a waste. It's time for me to take that drama class. Look out Mr. Lowe!

Covering songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald is a daunting endeavor, since only Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan challenge her place as the premier female jazz vocalist in history. But the late Fitzgerald inspired and influenced a wide array of talented acolytes--from Natalie Cole to k.d. lang to Dianne Reeves--many of whom gather on this spirited, Phil Ramone-produced tribute to partially benefit the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation. Cole, backed by an eager gaggle of call-and-response male worshippers, breathes fun new life into the swingy "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," while Chaka Khan, showcasing the breadth of her range, delivers a transporting rendition of the enchanting jazz blues "Lullaby of Birdland." (The two also team up for a delicious scat-fest on "Mr. Paganini.") If lang is equally transfixing on the ballad "Angel Eyes," it's newcomer Ledisi who steals the show with "Blues in the Night," her expansive soprano often mimicking a muted or full-tilt trumpet, one of Fitzgerald's hallmarks. Performances from Etta James and Nikki Yanofsky also rivet, even if Diana Krall and Hank Jones's "Dream a Little Dream of Me" comes across as a little too sleepy, and Gladys Knight is probably not the best singer for "Someone to Watch Over Me." The album surprises with a live duet ("You Are the Sunshine of My Life") between Fitzgerald and Stevie Wonder, recorded at the 1977 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Although it seems tacked on, it doesn't grate nearly as much as Michael Bublé's "Too Close for Comfort," so slick it would put an eel to shame. Skip over that transgression, and turn to the antidote of Lizz Wright's sultry take on the melancholy "Reaching for the Moon," which plumbs emotional depths not even the ever-joyous Great Lady managed to attain. --Alanna Nash

My favorite part of this collection was Ella and Stevie Wonder singing "Sunshine of my Life." The blend of their voices was amazing. If it possibly could have been done, I'd love to have seen the video of this performance.

Of the tributes, Ledisi's "Blues in the Night" blew me away. Her vocalese imitation of a trumpet was one of the best impressions I have ever heard.

I also liked hearing Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan in duet on "If you can't sing it, you'll have to swing it." Etta James' alto was definitely refreshing on "Wait til you hear from me." She's the only woman on the CD with a voice in the lower registers and definitely different from the other vocalists.

This is the second CD I've purchased of music from Ella Fitzgerald's era. I have one CD of Dave Grusin pays Homage to Duke Ellington and I didn't like it at all. But this CD is great! It has a variety of vocalists who are tops in their field, mostly jazz but some rock (Linda Ronstadt and K.D. Laing). The orchestration and vocal stylings are all excellent with great variety. The selection of artists is about as good as good gets. Practically no one great was left out that I know of who sings in this genre. Buy it as a great introduction to this era.

Should Be A Grammy Winner In 2008!.......2007-06-11

'We All Love Ella' is a first rate tribute to the First Lady Of Song, Ella Fitzgerald. While I agree with the previous reviewer on many points, I'll try to focus on the project as a whole. Verve must be commended for asembling such a formidible list of singers & musicians on this CD, and you can't help but feel good while listening to the various interpretations, which are all top rate. The one track which caught my attention from the start was the LONG OVERDUE DUET between Natalie Cole & Chaka Khan! The two divas' voices blend SO WELL on '(If You Can't Sing It) You'll Have To Swing It (A.K.A. Mr.Paganini)', and I also love the arrangement of the song, which is long enough for Chaka & Natalie to sing & scat up a storm.

There are so many other highlights on 'We All Love Ella', BUT the failure to include songs by TWO prominent Ella disciples (Patti Austin & Dee Dee Bridgewater), was questionable (IMO). Both of these legendary singers recorded Ella tribute projects in the past ('Dear Ella' & 'For Ella' respectively!), and they could've shined on this new CD singing 'Our Love Is Here To Stay' & 'How High The Moon ?'. Both of these songs are Ella classics without question, but are absent on 'We All Love Ella'. Oh well, maybe Verve will cook up Volume 2 ?

All in all 'We Love Ella - Celebrating The First Lady Of Song' is a first rate tribute to an American Icon, and I applaud everyone involved for the great music...which is one of the finest 'tribute' projects in recent memory. I'd also like to thank Phil Ramone for NOT releasing a shabby collection of songs (most of those countless 'remake' CDs on Shanachie Records comes to mind!!). Obviously a lot of thought & time was invested in producing 'We All Love Ella', so I'd recommend it to jazz lovers everywhere.

Once again Kelly draws you in with her stunning vocals. She has mastered the ability to surround herself with extreme talent as well in writers and musicians. This CD is better than Easy but not quite as good as What I Deserve. My personal favorite is Don't Know Why and there are several very good tunes her. Maybe one or two duds but her duds are still better than the garbage Nashville puts out. She is a class act.

Alternative(?) Country.......2007-07-10

Kelly Willis will never see much air play, as long as she continues to be herself. Her Austin based sound gets categorized as alt.country, which actually means her style is more country than CMT allows. I have loved her music and have missed her these last few years.

This album explores an expanded vision of her style - straying from the barriers of "alt.country' without ever leaving herself or her roots behind.

If you don't know Kelly Willis and hope you might be getting more of Nashville samo samo, stay away. If country swing is your thing, you probably already know her. For you, this is a must have.

With Chuck Prophet at the helm, Kelly Willis delivers a recording that's worth the wait, and that is the equal of her superb and compelling live performances. One of 2007's best, by far.

Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley

This was the first Josh Groban album that I bought. I heard his Live at the Greek album in a friend's vehicle and decided I needed some of his work. I have since bought all of his available albums. This is still probably my favorite. It is an excellent example of his talent and the music is beautiful! I definitely recommend it to any music fan.

Because family values and devotion were so fundamental to June Carter Cash, it was inevitable that this tribute album--produced by her son, John Carter Cash--would encompass the legacy of the Carter Family and her marriage to (and musical partnership with) Johnny Cash. The pairings that revive the June-and-Johnny duets are a mixed bag, as Willie Nelson never really meshes with Sheryl Crow on "If I Were a Carpenter," but daughter Carlene Carter and Ronnie (of Brooks and) Dunn absolutely nail "Jackson" with their rambunctious interplay. Among the other highlights, stepdaughter Rosanne Cash gives a luminous spirituality to "Wings of an Angel," while Emmylou Harris will bring a lump to every throat with the closing "Song to John," a testament to eternal love and the afterlife. As June's signature instrument, the autoharp figures prominently in many of the arrangements, including Elvis Costello's rendition of "Ring of Fire." This all-star tribute album was conceived and produced by John Carter Cash, the only child of Johnny and June, and features songs written by or associated with the beloved singer, and performed by an eclectic collection of family and friends such as Elvis Costello, Billy Bob Thornton, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Loretta Lynn, and more. This release will coincide with the publication of John's book, "Anchored In Love: An Intimate Portrait Of June Carter Cash". The only biography of June available, it chronicles her life from childhood to the early days of touring with the Carter Family band, her marriages before Johnny Cash, her early fame, her romance with Johnny, and the ups and downs that followed. It paints a dramatic, never-before-told portrait of struggle and success, and how the power of true love eventually overcomes all obstacles.

"To describe the late June Carter Cash as remarkable, admired, rare, and legendary would accurately express the responses she evoked both from the public and from those who knew her well. Yet to simply heap superlatives and ignore the multiple dimensions to a life which inspired such words would do a disservice to such an endearing woman's memory. When one considers that June Carter Cash was a member of the preeminent family in American roots music, on her own merits a talented singer-songwriter who penned one of country music's most enduring hits ("Ring of Fire") and, perhaps what she will be longest remembered for, served as the muse and deliverer for one of the most charismatic performers in the history of both country and rock music, such words suddenly seem less encompassing than they once did." Since June Carter and Johnny Cash died there have been several memorials to them. The movie 'Walk the Line' portrayed their life together. There have been several albums of Johnny Cash, but to this date none to celebrate the life and legend of June Carter Cash. June Carter is a member of the legendary Carter family. Her parents Ezra and Maybelle were credited for inventing country music. June Carter was country music even before marrying Johnny Cash.

John Carter Cash, June and Johnny's son,was as an executive producer on 'Walk the Line'. He has penned the book, 'Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash' and serves as producer for the collection of 12 musical songs on this CD. John's involvement gives this CD a family touch, which separates the record from typical tribute albums.

In his autobiography Cash, "Johnny Cash, speaking of his wife's musical talents and achievements, lamented, "Sadly, I think her contribution to country music will probably go under recognized simply because she's my wife; it certainly has been up to now. That's regrettable--my only regret, in fact, about marrying her". The songs featured on 'Anchored in Love' run the gamut of June Carter Cash's career. The album features six songs she either wrote or co-wrote,or made famous.

The CD begins with two of June and Johnny's duets. Willie Nelson and Sheryl Crow start with an country take of "If I Were a Carpenter" followed by Carlene Carter and Ronnie Dunn singing "Jackson". Carlene sounds remarkably like her mother, June. The CD features "Far Side Banks of Jordan", a Kris Kristofferson/Patty Loveless duet that is one of my favorites. The "Road to Kaintuck", subg by the Peaseall Sisters and Billy Bob Thornton. Loretta Lynn gives a beautiful semblence to 'Wildwood Flowers'. EmmyLou Harris sings 'Song To John',with a loving and gentle voice. Grey Delisle brings a fresh voice to 'Big Yellow Peaches. Roseanne Cash's rendition of 'Wings Of Angels' is etheral at times. A poignant moment on the CD. June Carter Cash wrote 'Ring of Fire' and Elvis Costello sings a toned down version to "focus more on June's rendition" as stated by her son John Carter Cash.

I remember June Carter Cash as a vivacious woman always by Johnny Cash's side. She obviously had a life of her own, but she is intertwined within that of her beloved husband. This tribute to his mother, by John Carter Cash, reminds us that June Carter Cash was a woman to be loved and admired for her intelligence and artisitic ability.
