With high regard for the evolvement of sound displayed within rE: construK tion, my hopes for the newest effort from the Baltimore based band were considerably high. Even so, my anticipations were not near prepared for the hard-hitting completeness I discovered with .click.'s Gently Unraveling.

Heavy guitar deeply piercing... downcast bass implying inescapable darkness... extraordinary drums shadowing undiminished chaos like clockwork... appealing melody, at times so harmonious the severity of the instrumental attack is momentarily tuned out. Each instrument powerfully contributes to an imaginative sound synthesized with profound poetic lyrics to reveal intense thematic feeling. The concepts, often regarding abstract states of being, are not entirely direct allowing for vast interpretation. Emotions stirred throughout the album are very real and extremely honest, striking a personal chord with any listener.

Only three seconds into "the.end.of.everything" and you're doomed, spirits falling. Overpowering bass and dominant drums produce a solid repeated rhythm throwing you into a dark trance of feeling. As soon as the chorus begins, you're slammed with attractive harmony set by both vocalists. Yet, darkness prevails as heavy guitars accompany the notable rhythms immediately contrasting any positive feeling. The components of this song alone display astronomical variation of emotion, it's simply all over the place instrumentally, lyrically, and in tone.

Added effects and intriguing interludes allow for fluent transition between song and feeling further developing concept and enhancing mental image.

"silhouette.fragments" vividly portrays sharp, piercing darkness as menacing guitars beautifully illustrate overwhelming desolation. Complementary to angry, helpless, desperate vocals, the lyrical use of words is powerfully suggestive. The song contrasts nicely with more calm, reflective tracks such as gently unraveling and skyclad. Each track seems to be placed deliberately in order to continue thematic feeling and well-developed concept.

Just when it seemed the evolution was complete with rE: construK tion, .click. has gone to a whole new level by really challenging themselves to produce a complete work of art. Gently Unraveling is simply one of the most intriguing albums I've experienced in quite some time. Artistic, thoughtful, and honest, .click. has created a masterpiece that everyone should pursue.

Great Album.......2006-11-06

I usually don't do reviews, but I came by this Album somewhat serendipitously and was quite amazed at the quality and professionalism of this comparatively little known performer. Her Alto voice at times gives a haunting spiritual aurora and draws you into her songs, and makes you feel the emotions that she is expressing in her work... I liked all the songs in the album, but my favorites were: "If you could believe in you ", "Slippery Road"; "Does my Heart Show"; "Shadenfreude". It took me a while to figure out that Slippery Road was not about roads at all, but about a child being born. I think that anybody who buys this album will greatly appreciate the emotions and feelings expressed in her work. The only disappointment I have with this artist is where is her other albums?? This was done in 2001.

Karyn Whittemore's 2001 "Slippery Road" is an excellent singer-songwriter disc. Her piano-based melodies are beautiful and call to mind the classic female singer-songwriters such as Carole King & Laura Nyro as well as newer artists like Tori Amos and Suzanne Vega. "I Don't Own You" is a beautiful midtempo melody with Karyn's higher-pitched alto being quite expressive, "Can't take the answers from the grave, Can't know everything, Can't know how we are saved, Can't know it all 'cause I have no control at all." "Catatonic" is a great toe tapper with some tasty electric lead guitar by Tom Chandler. Her lyrics are at times extremely upbeat as on "Let the Healing Begin," "Once I feared that I was drowning, Once I thought the only way up was out, departure was so inviting, but now I've come to learn that there's more that life is about." "Shadenfreude" is apparently a German word about which Whittemore bases an intricate & moving song about embarrassment & revenge, "God forgive me right now, I know these thoughts I should learn to control, Strange the way that life can take you down while others smile from the sidelines." "High Now" is a hook-laden pop tune where Karyn's voice interweaves with itself in a tidy tune about drug abuse. The set concludes with a stunning almost a cappella song with Karyn's melody & countermelody weaving an intricate sonic tapestry. There are no weak tracks on this excellent independent release that is sure to fly below the radar screens of many. Seek & you shall find! Enjoy!

Folk Rock Lives!.......2000-12-21

For those who yearn for the heyday of folk rock, this CD has it all. 'Absolutely Everything' is reminiscent of early 10,000 Maniacs, 'Wrong Face' could easily have made it on to the Indigo Girls' Strange Fire, and I think 'Not You' even has an retro Smiths feel to it. If you're tired of all of the cookie cutter groups on the radio today, listen to this and see why grass roots is where it's at!

There is something about this CD that makes it possible for me to play it incessantly and never tire! Maybe its that same something that causes me to catch myself humming the tunes of the poignant song Wrong Face while waiting in line. The CD Paper Dolls and Paper Plates is a magnificent find for anyone looking to hear the warm, deep voice of Sarah Knab flow beautifully over the rhythmic harmonies of the guitars, cellos, and organs of the rest of the band. Fear of Commitment successfully sings about loves gone wrong, yet avoids the ever-annoying whining that is present in so much of today's music. It jumps from the slow, almost whimsical sound of Thirteen Years to the upbeat Times Have Changed.
