From the Artist
For too long, composers have believed that it was their job to challenge the audience’s expectations—that if people didn’t think their music was ugly, then the composers weren’t doing their job. I hold that the challenge should lie with the composer, and not be foisted off on the audience. The challenge to the composer is to create music that is attractive AND substantive—the great masters did it, afterall. The least we can do is try to do the same.

I do not write derivative music. I write music that uses elements I like—fun, dance-like rhythms; pretty tunes; rich harmonies.

About the Artist
I was born in a town north of Chicago, and until I was 26 I was going to be a scientist. I was 2 ½ years into a Ph.D. program studying cognitive psychology when I realized that I did not want to write papers all my life--I wanted to write music. So I got my Masters in Music from UMass and my D.M.A from CCM in Cincinnati.
