Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb Interpretation of Skryabin's Preludes Op. 11.......2003-04-13

I haven't purchased this album - and I cannot say how economical or rewarding this purchase is. I want only to comment on a small part of the album - the only work (or set of works) composed by an already familiar master of composition for the piano. I have heard this performance by Sakagami of the preludes, while routinely listening to the radio, and it was uncomparable to any of the disappointing performances available in stores, including the excerpts performed by Horowitz, which are nevertheless well executed. Such a unique sensitivity to tone and harmony, such a deep expressiveness fully brought out of each of the twenty-four masterpieces, is so rare to find among unknown pianists like Sakagami. She executes each and every of these miniatures with absolute perfection, always with the sensation that the music is trying to speak to us. Every piece is beautifully concieved in its ultra-short dimensions, not a single nuance of the music remaining untreated. Every note receives the deepest attention and meaning. Sakagami has a beautiful rubato, and a marvellous touch in her fingers, and the romanticity of the music is fully brought out without ever exaggerating or neglecting anything.
Should you buy this album? That's not for me to say...
