      If it is an eclectic medley of guitar recitals you want, than this is the CD to pick up. With Bach, Handel, and Rameau you cannot go wrong. Rene Bartoli masters the art of the Renaissance guitar through his unique playing style; while Harmonia Mundia has selected some great pieces for him to display this talent. This CD remains in the CD-Changer for days.

      I don't know what brought you to look over this page, but you shouldn't leave without dropping "Guitar--Greatest Hits" in your shopping cart. I bought this cassette ten years ago and absolutely loved it. I updated to a CD copy a few years back and swear by it for sleeping, driving, relaxing. Williams's consummate musical talent gives voice to some of the greatest classical guitar pieces ever, by the best composers ever (Albeniz, Sergovia, Vivaldi, etc.). The technique is brilliant, the melodies breathtaking. Nothing sounds quite like nylong string classical guitar, and few command the instrument like Williams. You can't be without this collection, and you can't beat this price. Order multiple copies now. I kid you not. You'll thank me.

        I heard this recording as a child and was transfixed by it. It transformed how I felt about the performance of early music. I have just finished the Douglas-Home biography and was thrilled to discover that the disc had been re-issued. It's simply a must-have, the closest we will ever come to hearing this music performed as it was intended to be.

        This disc is one of my favorites of all time. Most notable is her use of rubato or flexible time. I find it facinating that such interesting music can be achieved through an instrument with a relatively limited tonal and dynamic range.

        This is the second of Beier's two volumes of Bach, and it maintains the fine quality of Volume One. If you want highly decorative, unorthodox versions of these works, Lislevand might be your man. If you prefer straightforward accounts with little embellishment, then Lindberg might be ideal. But if you prefer something right in the middle, Beier's discs are top candidates for your cash. The nearest I've heard to performances like these are Hopkinson Smith's, but Beier isn't recorded quite as close. The result is very positive, clean and purposeful with very nice, tasteful embellishments that seem totally appropriate.
        Beier's Milano disc first made me aware of what a top class lutenist he is. Now I've heard these excellent CDs, I've no hesitation in ranking him with the very best around.
        The recording quality itself is also extremely good.

        I enjoy classical music, but this CD has a completely different sound than what I consider Classical.

        The rich melodious sounds of the lute need no other accompaniment to bring Bach's melodies to life. The music here has a Renaissance feel to it. It is simple and romantic. I find myself humming these tunes often.

        Highly recommended.
