These are some of the most refreshing performances of these pieces that I have heard in quite some time. As a concert organist, one tends to hear many mundane performances of these pieces, especially the Toccata and fugue in d minor. Kee's performance of this commonly abused piece was not only listenable, but acually delightful for a change. The other performances are truly first class in every acpect.

      Eliot Fisk plays beautifully on this recording. The choice of material is very interesting and refreshing and the interpretations are lively and intelligent as well as very romantic and beautiful. Fisk plays very appropriately for the music he selects, much of which falls solidly in the early 20th Century Segovia style. The Segovia arrangements of folk songs are not particularly challenging listening, but they are very enjoyable and often charming. The rest of the music provides a great introduction to some of the core Segovia repertoire that is not as well known today as, for instance, Sor, Giuliani, Tarrega, or Villa Lobos. In summation, the tone, technique, interpration, and musicality of these performances are all at an equally superlative level. The only drawback may be the odd occasional clicks in the recordings which do not necessarily correspond with any notes, and therefore are clearly a minor flaw in the recording rather than a fingernail or technique-related issue. This album is most definitely a worthwhile purchase.

      This is a wonderful CD! @ a very nice price too! I must say that the recording could have been done better (hence, the 4 stars and the nice price.) But if you play classical guitar, then it will be a treat to hear this CD. Segovia was a genius when it came to composing for his beloved instrument and Fisk did a great job playing the material. I wish that the great recording guitarist like Fisk would treat us to more less-popular works such as the ones on this CD.

          Widor's organ music makes great listening for people who normally hate organ music. It's so tuneful, elegant, and "French" that you sort of forget all of the churchly associations of the instrument and simply enjoy the colorful sounds that Widor employs. This final volume of the complete organ works includes two delightful suites: the Three New Pieces, and a lovely suite of arrangements entitled Bach's Memento. Along with these two works, van Oosten also includes early versions of various movements from the organ symphonies, proving (as if such proof were needed) that Widor was as self-critical a musical craftsman as ever set pen to paper.               This is a magnificent cd of Bach's Orgelbuchlein BWV 599-631 (the rest can be found on Vol. 4). Weinberger really knows his stuff! His style is quite serious, but I love him all the more for that. The Wagner organ at Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway is one of the greatest organs in the world, IMO. It has quite a heavy, distinct pedal division for an organ of it's size, and is perfect for playing choral preludes with cantus firmus in the pedal. The sound is otherworldly and majestic. He slows down many of these pieces, and spreads them out horizontally, and it works SO well. BWV 602, 603, 610, 612, 615, 617, 622, 625...are some of my favorites on this disc, but I really love every single one. I have played this cd so many times it's not funny. His severe reading of Jesu Meine Freude gives me goosebumps, it's so stark and to the point. Right into your psyche he goes. The pedals in that piece are especially haunting.

              I can higly recommend this CD as all the CDs in the series. The sound of the organs is wonderful and the playing of Mr. Weinberger is of the highest standard.

              The bulk of this disk consists of the first half of the 18 Leipzig Manuscript chorale preludes, which alone makes it worth the price. The G Major and C Minor Preludes and Fugues are excellent icing on the cake. The Silbermann organ (South German style) sounds wonderful with enough brightness to balance the richness of its sound. The 32' Gross Untersatz (literally translated Big Bottom sound) adds the gravity that Bach himself is quoted as appreciating.

              The highlights of this disk for me were Komm Heiliger Geist, great playing, a rich plenum (organ talk for full sound) and that 32' Gross Untersatz. Schmucke Dich, what an incredible registration, the cantus firmus (hymn tune) floats ethereally above it all with just the right amount of tremulant. Nun Danket, a great registration and the cantus firmus firmly on top, truly something to be thankful for.

              The playing is sensitive and very capable. Though none of these pieces has obvious call for virtuosic technique, Mr. Weinberger's obvious command of the instrument is wonderfully in evidence. This set is the perfect complement to Kevin Boyer's set (on a North German style Marcussen).
