A Long Time Ago..........2007-01-12
I bought this CD to play at work for background music and it's great for that. The only thing missing is the usually obligatory 20th Century Fox theme before the main Star Wars theme. Other than that, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus do a very fine job with Maestro Williams' music, indeed.
Spectacular!.......2007-01-12
I thought this cd was excellent! I bought it as a gift for my brother, who is a huge Star Wars fan, and he loved it. The music reminds me of the best parts of the movies. I think anyone who is a fan should get a copy.
Star Wars Tunes.......2007-01-09
My kids love the Star Wars movies so I bought this hoping we would have something new to listen to in the car. They love it and I love listening to something different. John Williams is genius.
My son loves it.......2005-09-11
My six-year old has become a huge fan of Star Wars and enjoys listening to this disc. It has the best tracks of each episode.
Star Wars Saga.......2005-07-20
Wonderful music. Best from all the movies. How can you go wrong?

Salute to America.......2006-07-27
Very similar in quality and music to I Love A Parade and a very upbeat reminder of why we are a patriotic nation. The arrangements and quality of the songs are great.
A good choice but..........2005-06-29
It is not the best CD that I have bought but it is an honest one. The orchestration is good, the choice of tunes is excellent and the tunes are well played. As you know, it is always difficult to say : I like it or I hate it because hearing a CD is a question of personal point of view. In my case, I may not say that I like it or I hate it, I prefer some other orchestration but it us a good CD.
Ho-Hum.......2005-06-08
I wanted some rousing marching music. This album is half asleep. The sound quality is poor. Apparently Mr. Williams writes better music than he conducts.
"Boston Pops".. Alway's do the Job!.......2001-10-03
John Williams/Boston Pops.. Salute to America.
And they do! They salute America! This is a wonderful C.D
Battle Hymn of the Republic, is great..
New York, New York, will bring tears to your eyes!
12 renditions in all..
All these are performed wonderfully, and well worth the money!
I would recommend this to anyone who loves patriotic music, it will stir the heart and soul of Americans....
Full-Spirited.......2000-09-02
I'm a classical music/opera person for the most part. But I find this CD entralling. Even the organization of the CD is ideal-almost like a symphony--with the rousing Candide Overture and the musical medleys at the beginning, the patriotic songs as the B section, and the Dixieland and other music from American musicals to finish up. And I particularly like the orchestration of the medleys. A wonderful CD.

What k.d. lang branded "torch and twang" might serve as a starting point for a description of Neko Case's music, but the uniqueness of a style that incorporates country roots, punk attitude, and supper-club sophistication defies classification. Her 2003 debut performance on the Austin City Limits series (also available on DVD) showcases Case's artistry in a stripped-down setting, with stand-up bassist Tom Ray serving as a one-man rhythm section, Jon Rauhouse providing multi-instrumental virtuosity on banjo and a variety of guitars, and Kelly Hogan supplying impeccable harmony support. Case was touring at the time behind her Blacklisted album, though the setlist strays farther. On "Hex," written by Freakwater's Catherine Irwin, Case and Hogan could pass as the Louvin Sisters, while Bob Dylan's "Buckets of Rain" receives a languid reading punctuated by Rauhouse's Hawaiian lap-steel guitar. "Deep Red Bells" emphasizes the western side of country & western, with the more experimental "Maybe Sparrow" combining banjo and edgy atmospherics. Throughout, the bare-bones arrangements let the songs breathe and Case's voice soar. --Don McLeese

What A Songbird.......2007-05-23
Beautiful album from a wonderful singer. She mixes country and folk as well as anyone. You would never believe this is a live recording. Don't nit-pik - just listen and enjoy.
This generation's Patsy Cline.......2007-03-26
Neko Case is this generation's Patsy Cline only with more attitude. Her appeal crosses over multiple genre's but you can't quite categorize her. Pick up any of her catalog and you'll find yourself searching for more.
In Case of Neko.......2007-03-24
For some stupid reason I thought the songs would be new. Imagine my chagrin when I learned this was taped in 2003! Anyway, she is definately talented and I love her voice. However, Fox Confessor is my favorite of hers. Live at Austin is a good buy and I would recommend it or anything by her to anyone.
great songs and a unique voice.......2007-03-14
This is my first Neko album and boy what an introduction! Neko has a unique voice with a little country twang in some songs and a sultry blues sound in others. It tough to identify her style, but if I had to I would say its bluegrass. I can't wait to get another one of her albums.
Top Performance from a Rising Star.......2007-03-08
Neko Case shines in this live performance recorded at her debut on the television show "Austin City Limits." The recording and production values of this mini-concert are top notch, providing a balanced mix of vocals and instruments, including some stellar steel guitar work by Jon Rauhouse. Kelly Hogan, an accomplished lead singer in her own right, offers up backing melodies that seem to perfectly complement Ms. Case's range. But it is Neko Case's voice that steals the show. She sings with a genuine emotional intensity on "Favorite," "Behind the House" (which was previously unreleased, and in my humble opinion, one of her best songs to date, along with "Knock Loud" and "Hex," that is rarely heard in today's music. She also does a moody version of the Emmylou Harris classic "Wayfaring Stranger." In short, if this performance is your introduction to the music of Neko Case, it will have you back online shopping for more of her great work in little time.

The Innocence Mission have, over the course of a decade, created a half dozen albums which celebrate small pleasures, fragile details and the wistful edges of life. As the title suggests, Now the Day Is Over offers a set of lullabies. The dozen covers and one original were not all written as bedtime reveries, but it's a testament to the graceful nuances Don and Karen Peris that such a familiar song as "What A Wonderful World" can bring out the twinkling stars of nighttime with heartfelt purity. Free of embellishments, either internal or studio created, Karen's vocals are at once magical and direct. The trio has done much more than to simply streamline or slow down these selections, they've found the core of each number and built around it only that which is necessary. -- David Greenberger
Customer Reviews:
Innocence Mission is an appropriate name.......2007-06-02
Not the worst cd I have and certainly not offensive. However, lacks depth, character, and content. Could be good for the kids. Bought it because I fell in love with a track I heard on Radio Paradise. Overall I could have spent the money in other ways.
Sickenly too sweet.......2007-05-12
I am new to the Innocence Mission. We have a one year old baby, so a friend gave us this CD as a gift. For me, Karen Peris's voice has the "nails across the blackboard" effect on me. She has no range and her voice is cloying. I am not expecting rock 'n roll or anything like that, but I just cannot find anything attractive in her voice. She absolutely "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," a classic and a song that I want to associate with my relatively unspoiled childhood. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.
absolutely love this album.......2007-01-12
I play this album as part of my daughter's bedtime routine. I absolutely LOVE it. Has such a beautiful calmness to it. And as I sit their rocking with my daughter before I put her in her crib, it often brings both smiles to my face and tears to my eyes.
I Love You, Innocence Mission........2007-01-04
In the winter of '89-'90, I picked up The Innocence Mission's eponymous debut on cassette one evening in a mall in Muncie. During my solitary rural Indiana backroads return to Taylor Univ., I was introduced to the delightfully solid intangibility of these troubadours of Heart, Soul, and Mind. I wanted Don and Karen Peris to mother and father me, or to marry Karen, or to be a brother or sister of one, to experience in my life the meaningful connections that in song resonated on and strong without dwindling into the inevitable nihilism that so much of art does nowadays. (Soon realized they were Catholic Universalists or something like that.)Fan for life.
And so, I kept up with their oeuvre. Enjoying the experimental phases of beauty along with the return to simple folk beauty. "Bright as Yellow", on "Glow", piqued the world's interest on the "Empire Records" soundtrack. They toured at least a little with Lilith Fair one year. I found later they've done a blatantly spiritual album "Christ Is My Hope", and that Don (genius of guitar understatement/suggestion) has a couple of his own albums out. I still need to get those 3.
Anyway, the idea of a lullaby album from The Innocence Mission is so perfectly obvious that I never expected it. I mean, she sang songs to her "Someday Coming Child" (on "Umbrella") years before she birthed!
It is as perfect as it could be. Minimal in performance, maximal in effect. (With 3 little boys, I'm a connoisseur of artfully-lulling lullaby albums. Get the Disney Lullaby Album too--no, really--Greg Diakun and Fred Mollin create real art right under DisneyCorp's nose.)
Finally, Karen can sing me to sleep--and my family too.
works beautifully.......2006-10-18
I am a mother of twins and this CD was given to us as a gift. My babies fell asleep to this time after time and it was pleasant listening for both mom and dad. I plan on giving this as a gift to all my new parent friends.

At the tail end of "My Kind of Soldier," Robert Pollard ebulliently proclaims "Guided by Voices taught the world that you can suck and still rule." He's not completely kidding, since his band made a point of recording whatever short, sharp, shocked thing, it seems, that popped into his head. Here you get 30 tracks, from the brief and inspired "Gold Star for Robot Boy" to the sloppily slurred "Glad Girls," and the tunes run the gamut. Fractured and chaotic on moment, then inspired the next, the band shines most cohesively on "Gonna Have to Die," just as Pollard started getting truly hammered. There are better introductions to GBV, but one could hold forth pretty convincingly that this is the way they should be experienced--live and drunken and sometimes fumbling and, no matter what, always inspired and inspiring. ----Andrew Bartlett
Product Description
The latest release from the acclaimed Live From Austin, TX series of releases from the vaults of the award-winning PBS Austin City Limits TV show.
Guided By Voices are one of indie rock s most loved and prolific bands. On their 2004 farewell tour they performed one of their final concerts on Austin City Limits. Recorded on live on 24 tracks, this special 2CD set features 30 songs from their entire performance. Many of the songs were never aired on the TV broadcast.
Customer Reviews:
Ultimate representative album of Guided by Voices.......2007-07-04
Robert Pollard, singer song-writer of Dayton, OH-based Guided by Voices, decided to disband the group after the excellent 2004 album "Half Smile of the Decomposed" and held a victory lap of some sort with the band's last tour in Fall, 2004.
"Live from Austin" (2 CDs, 30 tracks, 90 min.) brings in its totality one of the last shows of the band (November 9, 2004). Guided by Voices in its 20 year run released a multitude of albums, it was really impossible to keep track of all their music, but of course 1994's "Bee Thousand" album remains the stand-out. This collection is a great summary of it all, in a live setting, as it should be. It's hard to pinpoint highlights as such, as the songs whiz by one after another, but check out "Cut Out Witch", featuring Pete York. Pollard's in between songs banter is fun, if non-sensical. At one point he shouts "If you suck, you still rule!" and that just about summarizes it!
I caught the band on their "victory lap" at the Southgate House in Newport (just across from Cincinnati), and it was quite the show. Since disbanding GBV, Pollard has gone on to release a number of solo records. Check out in particular last year's "From a Compound Eye", which was one of Pollard's best in a long time.
Not quite peak form.......2007-06-18
The Austin City Limits release constitutes the first official live cd from GBV (not counting the semi-bootleg "Jellfish Reflector" from 1996) and that alone makes a worthwhile release.
The first disc is generally solid although the set list leans a little bit too heavily on lesser material. The performances are solid although too many of Doug Gillard's guitar leads are buried in the mix. While song selection improves on the second disc, song quality declines, most likely due to the band's copious drinking. Lowlights include a sloppy, slowed-down "Glad Girls" and Robert Pollard screwing up the lyrics to "I Am A Scientist," arguably the band's finest and most famous song.
Still, there's a lot to like here, especially for long time fans who have always wanted a real live cd with the Pollard/Gillard/Farley lineup. If this isn't the best possible show, its more than good enough. (Note: Those new to the GBV experience will get a better picture of what the band was about onstage with the "Electrifying Conclusion" DVD which documents all four hours of the band's final show.
Do not start here if you are on the fence about GBV.......2007-06-02
This live album is a fan's dream...one great song after another. However, not surprisingly, Pollard gets progressively more drunk towards the end of the show, culminating in an absolutely horrible version of "Glad Girls" (although you could certainly argue that it was intentionally horrible!). Having said that, man there are some great songs on here and it's nice to have live versions for once. I saw the Austin City Limits show on t.v. but this has much more material on it. Now, as the title of my review suggests, if you are a newbie or if you are undecided about whether Pollard is a genius or just a low-fi hack, this is definitely NOT the place to start. There is the "greatest hits" CD which I think has some pretty representative choices on it (even if it is all over the map, again not surprisingly for GBV). I would start there, and get this CD much further---once you've been converted! (By the way, I used to be in the camp that thinks that Pollard writes two or three good songs per album and a whole bunch of crap...I have come to realize that his hit to miss ratio is MUCH better than that and he is not overrated, by any means. I am really enjoying this live album and glad they put it out.....)
YEAH!.......2007-05-17
The first disc of this set is impeccable! My jaw dropped! The sound is excellent......I never saw it on TV and when I did it was only the last five minutes.....Im not deaf--tons of mistakes but all the songs are played with the spirit that made this band so great. IT OPENS WITH DEMONS ARE REAL. Enough said!
Thanks to Pollard or whoever for releasing this........2007-05-15
I don't normally watch Austin City Limits (always seem to catch it when it's a rerun of Cowboy Junkies, Lyle Lovett or Stevie Ray Vaughn darn the luck), but I stopped one Saturday night to see this band on there doing this song "Glad Girls." Turns out it was a longtime "heard of but heard nothing by" band, Guided By Voices. Picked up the album it was on, but it didn't come close to this live version (apparently their shows are legendary for Rob Pollard drinking his weight in alcohol) So I'm glad this is finally out on CD. I've come to love the rest of their songs and feel a right schmuck for not getting into the band during its lifetime.
Signed,
epsteinsmutha

Product Description
From the vaults of the award-winning PBS Austin City Limits TV show, this is the latest release in the acclaimed Live From Austin, TX series.
Rock and Roll s the thing, and Jerry Lee s the King... or so said an English fan once upon a time somewhere. Elvis fans might dispute that title, but nobody else in the history of popular music would dare call himself The Killer. Of all the legends who came out of Sun Records in the 1950s Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison no one would have bet the last one standing would be the pill-popping, whiskey-guzzling, gun-waving hellion from Ferriday, La. Except The Killer, of course.
Jerry Lee Lewis took black rhythm & blues, white gospel and other funky Mississippi sounds and turned them into rock and roll. But Jerry Lee s life also is, and has always been, his piano; he has kicked and banged and set on fire (literally) many of them over the course of six-plus decades.
He almost never made it to Austin City Limits. He cancelled one appearance, and only weeks before this recording on October 17, 1983, his wife died in a freak swimming pool accident at their home. But he did make it, and what we have here is one of the most amazing performances ever to go down on the ACL stage. Throughout the day he was a perfect gentleman, showing up on time and acting very graciously to one and all, but once he hit the stage, all hell broke loose. The songs speak for themselves; they re ALL here.
For many years later, Jerry Lee would carry a tape of this show to play for friends (and himself, many times). When producers tried to book him again for a return performance, the response was, Jerry Lee doesn t think he could possibly do a better show.
This CD captures all the hits and more, and includes songs that were never aired on the original TV broadcast.

LOVE IT!!!.......2006-04-27
Such a terrific compilation of songs. Marc Dorsey's rendition of "People Make the World Go Round" gave me goosebumps! That's a good sign. A must have.
Crooklyn feeds the soul.......2005-06-12
This soudtrack means more to me than any other music compilation avaialable. Every song is carefully chosen to speak to the heart and mind of the listener and viewer of the Crooklyn film. It's a compilation of eclectic time-appropriate songs that portray the passion and atmosphere of the time period and culture it represents. The song "Oooh Child" has given me hope and encouragement through many of life's unexpected tragedies, and I appreciate every aspect of the music offered in this CD. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a somewhat mellow yet passionate style of motown music. This CD is timeless.
Pure rythmic soul.......1999-02-17
Motown at its finest. A collaboration of songs that make you tap your feet and smile. From Ooh Child to ABC, Crooklyn will make you stand up and cheer (even if your driving). So pop in the CD, and stretch out your neck, because there's gonna be a whole lot of bopping to these Motown greats.

Album Description
Spirited new sounds from across the sea to the shores of the New Land. From the first colonists to the American Revolution and the birth of our republic Hesperus Early Music Ensemble's music reflects a time of new ideas, freedom and vitality. In town and village, parlor and ballroom, from the Appalachians to the great concert halls hear the musical pulse of early American music performed on a wide variety of folk and early music instruments. Includes: lively country-dance tunes, evocative Shape Note Hymns, old time Appalachian fiddle tunes, graceful European parlor music, French cotillions, divisions and improvisations. Introduction -The English Colonies in America were a patchwork-not just of territories whose boundaries became state lines, but of people from different places and classes with widely different values and experiences. This recording presents music from that patchwork; from England, the Colonial homeland; Scotland and Ireland, the homes of the largest groups of immigrants outside England; and France, the ally of the Patriots, and music written in the United States. More recordings by HESPERUS from Maggie's Music are Celtic Roots featuring Scottish fiddler, Bonnie Rideout and Early American Roots. Hesperus Ensemble is THE sought after musical group for period music that is both authentic, and most important fun, lively and spirited. They are frequent performers at the Smithsonian's Institute of American Music and can be heard on the soundtrack or the Paramount film with Johnny Depp entitled Sleepy Hollow! Excerpts from liner notes:2.A Set of English Country Dance Tunes: Maiden Lane, Jack O'Lent, Chestnut, Bonny Broom - The visionary London music publisher John Playford first published his English Dancing Master in 1651. It was reprinted 18 times over the next 77 years and is still popular today. 3. Parting Friends/Primrose - These tunes have come down to us in choral arrangements called shape-note hymns .

GREAT!.......2007-05-20
This cd travels everywhere with me and you can easily imagine a ball at Monticello given by Mr. Jefferson when you hear it.
Try not to daydream too much while driving as i had done several times..lol..it's hard not to with this cd..:)
Perfect for a colonial reenactment or party.
A relaxing journey into our Colonial past.......2006-03-16
I bought this CD to provide me with another dimension to my studies of period events. It truly contains a wealth of music, and takes it place as an important addition to my musical library. Living in the Mt Vernon area, I often travel with the CD playing while visiting historical places, and it provides a wonderful companion to "set the mood" for the myriad locations in the area. The quality of the sound is remarkable, the musicians superb, and the breadth of song selection provides a musical landscape for the period. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic!.......2004-03-04
I first heard the "Colonial America" CD by Hesperus when I visited Monticello recently (the home of Thomas Jefferson) where they were playing the songs in the gift shop. Imagine my dismay to find that only one cassette tape was left of the fabulous music of Hesperus; however, that tape held me spell-bound all the way home, from Virginia to North Carolina.
It was an incredible journey from the past that has stayed with me since, and every day I drive that one hour back and forth to work. This music has changed everything about the trips, and I can't wait for more.
Thanks to Amazon.com I was able to buy all three CD's, including "Early American Roots," "Colonial America" and the incredible "Celtic Roots" with the most beautiful violas imaginable.
Thank you Hesperus! Please play more!
Cold Mountain type music that's great.......2003-11-15
Novels and movies like Cold Mountain, Oh Brother Where Art Thou? and Song Catchers are showing the growing interest in traditional music and this recording hits the mark. It is music from the days of early America--the time when the first colonists come to America. You can hear the fiddle playing tunes still popular in the Appalachian mountains today and also hear shape note music arranged by Hesperus as wonderful instrumentals. The music takes you to a time when folks were making music in their homes-before TV, before the internet! This recording is good for teachers or educational purposes too- with informative liner notes. All the music is played on folk and early music instruments and it's lively and an enjoyable listen.

Customer Reviews:
A Master at the peak of his craft.......2007-05-07
What can I write that hasn't already been said of Eric Johnson?
Hmmm... Well, if you appreciate some really wonderful and melodic progressive rock -- not the modern reflections of that classic form -- but truly inspired and creative blending of many styles of music, then this performance DVD is well worth the price. You will come to appreciate the attention to detail that Eric has applied to crafting not just 'songs', but compositions of the highest calibre.
Oh, and you don't have to be a musician to appreciate good music. This stuff is for everyone who loves a well written tune.
'Nuff said!
A Masterpiece from a master guitarist.......2007-03-10
I saw Eric Johnson for the first time shortly after the release of White Cliffs of Dover as a single. He opened for Rush. I remember Eric's performance. I don't remember Rush's.
This is a great recording and shows the diversity of Eric's taste and style.
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-01-27
I love this CD and the DVD is awesome!!!!!!! His versions of Jimi Hendrix songs are great as well. The beginning of "Trail of Tears" really shows how talented and how clean Eric plays.
thank you, austin city limits!.......2006-08-17
This is the cd I play at night to scare the deer away from the road (I live way out in the country); just open the car window, crank the volume and rock on. I walk into work saying, "What?" Sure is worth the jangled eardrums, though. From the opening "Righteous" to the melodic and terrific "Cliffs Of Dover" Eric does not leave you sleepy at all. This is from early in his career, but having seen him last April, I am happy to report he has lost none of his fire. I have never heard a bad rendition of "Camel's Night Out" and the one on this disc does not disappoint. Also nice is "Trail Of Tears" and "Desert Rose"; "Steve's Boogie" is a snappy little gig that could be longer, in my opinion;and there's the somewhat cool-jazz of "East Wes". I do tend to skip over the cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?" - SRV was the only one, to me, who was able to cover Jimi well enough to listen to. This cd, however, is still five-star as far as I'm concerned.
Guitar Mastery.......2006-08-08
For some reason, Eric Johnson waited a long time to release this gem. Recorded in 1988, this live outing displays Mr. Johnson in top form as a virtuoso of the electric guitar.
His tone is instantly recognizible without ever sounding cliche, cloying, or boring. Like fellow Texan (now no longer of this earth), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Mr. Johnson can seemingly play lead and rhythm guitar simultaneously. I would like to see the video to understand how he accomplishes this. (And I did see him live at the kick-off concert in Denver of his tour with Joe Satriani a few months ago. It was superb, but they only let him play for one hour.) His transitions between various tones are seamless and masterful. His solos are fluid, firey, and always well thought out. There is no shredding for shreedding sake here. Mr. Johnson is far too tasteful for that kind of exhibitionism. (I won't name names.)
Mr. Johnson is supported strongly by bass and drums. His singing is sparse and not annoying, although not on the level of his playing. (Who could expect that?) The Hendrix covers are superb. Few people can pull that off.
To show his versatility, Mr. Johnson gives a beautiful rendition of Wes Montgomery's classic, "East Wes." Few rock guitarists would ever even attempt that.

Pops Goes the 4th!.......2006-12-02
This is a great CD for any fan of the Boston Pops - especially those who have seen or been to their annual 4th of July performance - or for those who appreciate patriotic music. Many of the pieces they play at the Pops Goes the 4th concert are on the CD. My personal favorite is the 1812 Overture for its live cannons.
