Album Description

Check into the Americana Motel and check out some four star music! Americana Motel's concept is having Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland area roots rock and americana musicians covering either each others' tunes and sitting in on each other's sessions. It also includes covers of select chestnuts by Buddy Holly, the Delmore Brothers and Nina Simone. The compilation was produced by Peter Fox and is released on his Bay Gumbo Music label.

I hesitated for awhile in buying this CD, thinking that it was just too much of the local scene for me. Wow, I was mistaken! I listen to this CD almost everyday, finding new nuances and my appreciation for local Washington, D.C. music growing. I now listen only to my local music -- Last Train Home, the Grandsons, Scott McKnight...

My friend Karen said it best, this is "the CD that changed my life." Listen to this, and you will find yourself getting out more and going to see these musicians play live. Reward yourself and buy Americana Motel!

Neon Delights At The Americana Motel.......2001-12-06

Glowing with neon-cool intensity, Americana Motel is open for business in the honky-tonks of the homeland. The D of C has ensnared many a poor, wayfaring stranger with siren songs of sanctified lust, these are their children, born of bar room romance and late night liasons. Hopeful hearts and lonely laments, it's all in the words you meant to say. They're open all night and yes, there's still room for you, but be aware-spend one too many dreams at this motel and you'll never want to leave.

Superb performances of local music by Washington DC roots musicians. Homegrown, but deserving of national attention- there is some excellent songwriting here (Joe Tripplett, Scott McKnight, Karl Straub and more) with fine musicianship and singing by Bill Kirchen, Mike Auldridge, John Starling, Kevin Johnson, Lisa Mosciatello, the Kennedys, and other noted area artists. Open your ears!
