Three out of the eight movements feature a soloist. Movement three features the clarinet, movement 5 features the cello and movement eight is mostly a violin solo. These movements should be played slowly and be as long as possible so as to accentuate the austerity of this haunting quartet. On this recording, all three of these movements are played masterfully and oh so beautifully. The Et Exspecto is also incredible and sounds so much like the Quartet that the entire CD sounds like one long piece.
