Editorial Reviews
Album Description
The title piece of this collection of flute solos refers to a habit of the great but eccentric composer Maurice Ravel, who used to whistle tunes to try to charm lizards. The quality of enchantment that Ravel sought appears in all the music on this recording. Katherine Kleitz has chosen thirteen pieces, old and new, designed to mesmerize and beguile the listener. Among them are serious solo works by seven contemporary Americans, three early twentieth-century Europeans, and three baroque composers. AIRS TO CHARM A LIZARD evokes a mood of meditation and delight with the seductive sound of Kleitzs flute in some of the finest solo repertoire.
Airs to Charm a Lizard, Music, Escher, Debussy, Honneger, Couperin, Bliss, Rorem, Hoover, Marais, Kirchoff, Blank, Boismortier, Bond, Friendly, Katherine Kleitz
