Editorial Reviews
Album Description
The title piece of this collection of flute solos refers to a habit of the great but eccentric composer Maurice Ravel, who used to whistle tunes to try to charm lizards. The quality of enchantment that Ravel sought appears in all the music on this recording. Katherine Kleitz has chosen thirteen pieces, old and new, designed to mesmerize and beguile the listener. Among them are serious solo works by seven contemporary Americans, three early twentieth-century Europeans, and three baroque composers. AIRS TO CHARM A LIZARD evokes a mood of meditation and delight with the seductive sound of Kleitz’s flute in some of the finest solo repertoire.

5 out of 5 stars Magical Journey.......2005-02-27

Katherine Kleitz's magical and accomplished playing takes the listener on a journey that is, indeed, charming. The carefully chosen pieces are by turns hypnotic, lyrical, energetic, and beguiling and represent a wonderfully eclectic array of composers. I particularly liked the choice of contemporary composers included in the list. The packaging of the CD--the cover photo and accompanying art work--beautifully complements the content and makes for a splendid gift, too!

5 out of 5 stars Enchanting!.......2005-02-25

I really enjoyed this disc. It does take you to another place. You can almost see the lizards being entranced. Equally interesting are the extensive and detailed liner notes. Excellent performance and recording. Highly recommended.
