Customer Reviews:
Hands, down, the best.......2002-10-17
Richard Savino has become my new favourite guitarist. I was quite surprised to learn that a man could possess so much knowledge as well as the technical abilities that could put any virtuouso into a dumbfounded stupor. The degree of sophistication, sensitivity, and perfection that Savino brings to the guitar should rightfully place him at the forefront of his field. The colour of the whole orchestra is a 'sound for soar ears'. The period instruments make the listening experiance truly unforgetable. Savino shows the music world that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Hands down best........2001-09-13
This is the best recording available of these historic works from the very dawn of the guitar in orchestral setting and a real fix for early-guitar nostalgists. Recorded versions of Giuliani's 1st concerto *unedited* are rare indeed; this is undoubtedly the one of that small set I would select to introduce the inquisitive to the complete work. I am surprised by the balance achieved by the period instruments (19th c. guitars aren't known for orchestra-defeating volume). I'm so surprised I suspect a little cheating via mic placement or amplification. Upon hearing the natural and acoustically pleasing results, any suspicions are gladly forgiven.
Early guitar.......2001-04-27
Richard Savino brings the listener back to the infant stages of the guitar. His knowledge of this early guitar repetoire enables this historically accurate recording to take the listener back in time. His clean and light playing matches that of these early guitar masters such as Guiliani. The orchestra enhances this recording with its authentic baroque sound. This recording is a great example for anyone interested in the earliest music written for solo guitar and orchestra.
