5 out of 5 stars Michelangeli: a true artist of the color! .......2006-09-30

During the second half of the XIX Century Grieg' s Piano Concerto blunted and captivated the most audiences all over Europe due its freshness, bucolic refinement, introspective nature, but above all its visible pantheist profile, this admirable score is a true kaleidoscopic journey through the rustic landscapes, the marvelous fiords, the compact and luxuriant vegetation that seduces and inspires even the most indifferent spirit.

To many people, this Op.16 is an emblematic pastoral composition, loaded of an ethereal romanticism and scented splendor, and nothing else. To my mind, the piece is much more than a simple musical postcard. It ' s possesses a rough wildness beneath the score, these expressive arpeggios depict and literally evoke and invite us to dream.

There have been countless players but unfortunately very few have been able to cross over the score limits; due perhaps this implies the mind of a poet in plain conjunction with the spirit of the work.

Michelangeli was one the most prominent pianists ever born. He owned that charm and color sense so required and demanded to play and win with this admirable composition.

The list is not so extensive as you might expect. Here you have other options; Lipatti `s performance is to my mind the most electrifying, but Radu Lupu-Previn, Gieseking- Galliera; Rubinstein - Dorati, Novaes- Swaroswsky, and Richter- Kondrashin 1964 remain among the most refreshing, original and emblematic inside the huge spectrum of marvelous performances.

Michelangeli `s refined pianism, sheer lyricism, careful phrasing and superb fingering made of this version one of the most notable between the great ones.
