Excellent resource for wedding planners.......2007-04-05

I work regularly with people planning church weddings who want the service to be dignified, traditional and formal. Often they have "ear memory" of music they've heard in other weddings, but no idea about its composer or title. This CD is the best compilation I've found of music that fits those requirements. Selections include great music and performances make it easy to imagine how they would sound in a particular church or other setting. Includes works by Protestant, Catholic and secular composers.

Worth the money .......2007-07-04

I looked everywhere for this CD. Trust me, you can't find it. That said it's one of the best CD's I have bought in the past few years. The vocalist is compelling, and the overall sound is great. They're a lot like Nightwish soundwise, but the lyrics are much better in my opinion. Worth the money any day.

I've heard only a few songs from Within Temptation and had avoided them for years after. They didn't gain much attention from me because I wasn't impressed by what I heard (I was expecting a bombastic first impression). I was wrong to do so because I took a listen to them again not too long ago by watching the video for "Memories" and I became highly interested in them. I downloaded "Jillian" and after hearing an awesome intro, I was enraptured completely. I ordered this cd without hearing the rest of the tracks. I rarely do such a thing. "Pale" and "Memories" are gems.

This album has a high range of hauntingly imaginative atmosphere that few bands, Leaves' Eyes in particular, can produce. While having a solid theme to this album, W.T. put various emotions and atmospheres into each song. This is a good trait because it keeps us interested for a long time and usually has the listener repeating the tracks. Why didn't I see this sooner? I am always eager to hear different bands and different material.

This will go into my ever growing music collection.
I recommend Leaves' Eyes because, they too, are able to grow on to the listener, while keeping them in a prolonged trance. I regret the fact that I have avoided this band. Might I also mention that Sharon actually does have a wonderful voice. I have another lady to grace my tons of Anneke Van Giersbergen, Liv Kristine, and Cristina Scabbia vocal contributions.

For those who are drawn towards any music like Enigma, Enya, or Evanescence, this cd has alot of great tracks. I recommend it to anyone who has such taste in music.

I can't really say I'm unbiased in this but then again that is what reviews are for. I was introduced to WT with this album and it is solid goodness throughout. WT are often compared to Evanescence but the vocals of Sharon, the lead of WT as well as the overall 'sound' of the band makes WT by far the better of the two.
If you are new to Within Temptation prepare for a whole new sound than I dare say anything you ever heard. There's a richness to the range of the instruments used and the vocals are out of this world. The voice is haunting and the songs stay with you. It is in short an amazing album and while this may not initially sound like your taste, try it out, I guarantee you will not regret it!

Outstanding!.......2007-03-15

I have been craving this CD since May of last year when I first heard about it, and now that I finally got it, I can say this confidently. Within Temptation is for real! They are probably the BEST Symphonic Rock group I have ever heard my entire life! This is the only CD in my collection (of all my CDs) that I can listen it all the way through and do it again. The songs are THAT good! This CD earns a perfect rating of 5 out of 5.

Styled more along the lines of a revolutionary cell than a band, Bloc Party approach the medium of rock'n'roll with the sort of high seriousness usually reserved for philosophy lectures. Yet on Silent Alarm, this "autonomous unit" of smart, wiry London youth don't just succeed in reinvigorating the artform--they come pretty close to reinventing it from the ground up. Whereas early singles like "She's Hearing Voices" found the band still attempting to chisel their own image out of familiar post-punk reference points--The Fall, Joy Division, and Gang Of Four, to name but three--newer tracks such as "Like Eating Glass" and the prickly "Price Of Gas" find Bloc Party pioneering a freshly-minted template of staccato percussion, expansive soundscapes, and cryptic lyrics that artfully straddle the political and the personal. Russell Lissack has forsaken that overdone hallmark of post-punk, brittle tortured-fretboard skronk, in favor of an effects-laden guitar sound that adds genuine prettiness to Bloc Party's edgy rush. But it's Kele Okereke's vocal that's the band's most flexible facet, morphing from frothing anger to breathless desperation. "Are you hoping for a miracle?" he bays, on "Helicopter". Yes? Influential, to say the least..........2007-07-07

It's very rare for me to get around to writing a review for any album, let alone a British pop group. However, this album compels me to make the time to put in my two cents.

I'm under the notion that Third Eye Blind's first self-titled release in 1996 (?) was one of the most influential albums of the 90s, given its unbelievable accessibility, the amount of radio-play for at least 4 singles, and the last 4 tracks on the album which were, in my opinion, better than any of the singles, including Jumper and How's it Gonna Be. Third Eye Blind set out a different pace and track for future bands to follow. Whether or not you like their next 2 albums, just throw their first release in your player and give it a spin, beginning to end, and come back later.

Having said that, Bloc Party's 2005 release is already the most memorable output of the 21st century concerning rock/pop/dance/indie/hipster, whatever the hell you want to call the conglomerate of those different genres. I'll stake the claim that, come 2011, you'll want to keep this album in your short-list of reliable things to listen to. Spectacular, blood-pumping highs ("Like Eating Glass," "Positive Tension," "This Modern Love") and impossible-to-ignore introspective tracks ("Banquet," "So Here We Are," "Plans," "Compliments") than any album of at least the past five years.

If you already own it, pay special attention to the final 5 tracks. If you don't own it, get it, jam out to the first 6 or 7 songs for a few weeks, then throw out "Plans" and "Compliments" back-to-back for your listening enjoyment. When an album does not have a skippable track on it, you know you've found something special.

One heck of a debut.......2007-06-27

They may be a bit over-hyped, but Bloc Party is still a group with a lot of talent and a very unique style. The whole album is very enjoyable, not just the singles.

Inspired release from the British whiz kids finds a passionate, forcefully assured unity driving this impressively emulated synthesis the unit has concocted, taking everything these humble innovators have heard in their young musical lives and offered a compelling synthesis to all that is youthful and relevant in carrying that torch. For once I think the crazed British music press actually got it right with Bloc Party's compelling debut, an album looking backwards and forwards simultaneously while remaining a fascinating Rock debut on a track-by-track, note-for-note basis. Styled with a delicate, intricate and still gritty, rockable, and danceable approach, Kele and company managed to silence nearly all alarms with an admirably focused debut sprayed with enough instrumental embellishment and rhythmic/melodic knowledge to make any up and coming new-school rock bands blush. In the thick of things we do tend to see a few of Bloc Party's themes (particularly in Okereke's guitar and chorus delivery) to bog certain songs down in repetition, but overall this blistering reinvigoration to Rock still has yet to be surpassed or emulated itself.

Excellent CD. It's one of very few that doesn't make me feel like I've been ripped off, and even more of a rarity, I really like every song.

Electric, yet eerily quiet.......2007-05-22

Released in 1969, this album marks Miles full blown emergence into the realm of jazz rock although there are other influences besides jazz and rock including a bit of minimalism. Musically, this recording is very relaxed and is dominated by eerie organ parts and a monotonic acoustic bass and drum parts. I especially like Miles use of space; even when he is not playing it speaks volumes.

Apart from Miles (trumpet), the list of musicians on this album reads like a who's who of jazz rock: Herbie Hancock (Fender Rhodes electric piano); Chick Corea (Fender Rhodes electric piano); Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone); Dave Holland (acoustic bass); Joe Zawinul (Fender Rhodes electric piano and organ); the amazing John McLaughlin (electric guitar); and Tony Williams (drums).

In spite of the fact that all of these guys are virtuosos, their performances on In a Silent Way are extraordinarily disciplined and restrained. The most notable example of this is Tony Williams, who simply plays a repeated rhythm on the hi-hat for all of the lengthy Shhh/Peaceful - in fact, it is not until near the end of In a Silent Way that he plays the entire kit, and for only a short time. Even John McLaughlin turns in a very sedate performance with clean tones; a marked change from the wildly savage virtuosity that characterized his playing during this early period. Although three keyboardists of such high caliber playing at the same time might not have worked under different circumstances, it works incredibly well here; the different players weave effortlessly in and around one another.

The album is split into two lengthy tracks with Shhh/Peaceful clocking in at 18'16" and In a Silent Way/It's about that Time running for 19'52". The mood of both pieces is very dreamy and quiet, with soft electric piano parts, and shimmering textures on the electric guitar fading in and out. Miles playing is very spacey and drifting - he comes in very so often and blows a few perfect notes and then stops, letting the other players do their thing. This music is deeply reflective and meditative, which is especially borne out in the hypnotic rhythm section.

All in all, this is a landmark recording that ushered in a new direction in jazz. Very highly recommended along with Bitches Brew (1970) and the much heavier sounding Jack Johnson (1971). Although a bit controversial, On the Corner (1972) is also recommended.

The bible of Miles' fusion period.......2007-04-28

This is, far and away, the best of Miles' fusion albums. Now, I'm generally not a fan of the fusion stuff - I see Bitches Brew as tepid and lackluster with a couple shining moments (title track, Miles Runs the Voodoo Down, John McLaughlin), Jack Johnson as half a masterpiece (Right Off rules) and half a bore (Yesternow... grrgh...), Live-Evil as assorted wankery (though What I Say is great), and On the Corner as a disaster, albeit a gutsy one. Now, In a Silent Way... that's a whole different free type of burger. A bigger, better, MUCH juicier burger.
What sets this apart? For one, the number of musicians. There are eight guys here, and a small army on every other album I mentioned. Eight guys contribute ideas MUCH better than a small army. Especially if Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams, Wayne Shorter and Miles himself are five of those eight guys. Hell, sneak in Ron Carter on bass and you've got the Second Great Sextet (first being the Kind of Blue band) on your hands. I know that Miles, Shorter, McLaughlin and Hancock played pivitol rows on Bitches Brew, but in a less crowded setting, they communicate better and their contributions come to the fore. Oh, and Tony Williams is my favorite drummer in the history of ever, and he left after this album, so maybe that relates to the huge drop in quality, I don't know. But even Joe Zawinul (who I'm not a fan of) and Chick Corea (who I have no opinion on) work magic on their keyboards. Basically, the only guy who DOESN'T make an amazing contribution is Dave Holland, who perfectly conforms to the stereotype of the bassist as being "random guy who nobody's heard of and doesn't draw attention to himself in his playing". He's just the bassist.
This is a haunting, restrained, atmospheric affair. The volume and tempo rarely pick up, and if they do it's only briefly (i.e. that quick little blurb in the middle of the title suite). It's an eerie calm this one gives off, like Kind of Blue (which is god) on downers. Moody, reflective Miles has always been some cool stuff, and this is no exception. Shorter's soprano is ethereal and creepy - in good senses of both terms. And John McLaughlin is, well... John McLaughlin. If you've never heard his work, this is a great place to start.
Two beautiful, otherworldly twenty-minute suites... Miles fans should be in heaven. Oh, and the cover would make a cool t-shirt. I'd buy it, at least.

Will Always Take You Where You Need to Be.......2006-07-26

I can think of few records that would fit most any situation as well as this one would. About the only thing I can't imagine this album being good for is to get one's blood pumping before an athletic competition . . . otherwise, Davis & this incredible cast of musicians made one of the most enduring & soul-caressing pieces of music imaginable. The only jazz artists who made anything to rival this for vision and harmonic genius in the '60s are named Mingus and Coltrane.

I shouldn't have to belabor what these songs sound like and why they are great. I think it should be enough to say that this is Miles's best record of the '60s (and therefore pretty much his best ever, with the only possible competition coming from _Kind of Blue_ and _On the Corner_). It settles on slow, soothing grooves and throws almost surreal harmonic and rhythmic softballs where one might least expect it . . . and, like I said, takes the listener exactly where she needs to be. To unadulterated sonic bliss.

Shhh, don't tell anyone but Miles and his "in your face" trumpet give me a headache.

I like funk and groove so I should have done a bit more homework before trying out the jazz scene. For me this CD is mostly silent except for some irritating trumpet blowing like foxtail into your eardrums.

I was about to give up on the whole jazz scene when I came upon Panthalassa. Track 1 of that CD (In a silent way/Shhh/Peaceful) is nice; smoothing out and grooving out Miles while staying true: say the purists.

Fusion's Mission Statement.......2006-03-02

Miles Davis historians look at this album and at "Bitches Brew" which followed, and talk of how important these recordings were to Miles' career as a turning point. This album is the first of Miles' "electric period," a highly controversial segment of his career that produced some highly influential, profound music of arguable accessibility. But what makes this album so incredible is not just how it was a beginning for Miles in fusion; it was the equivalent of the Second Continental Congress for the new genre that would dominate the jazz scene in the 1970s. One only has to look at the personnel and think for a bit: in addition to Miles, the group consisted of Wayne Shorter on saxophone, John McLaughlin on guitar, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Joe Zawinul on keyboards, Dave Holland on bass, and Tony Williams on drums. This is not just a list of the absolute top tier of young musicians of the time; it is literally the core group of EVERYTHING significant that happened in fusion. Every one of these men with the exception of Dave Holland went on to start a fusion group: Shorter and Zawinul began Weather Report, Hancock started Mwandishi and later the Headhunters, Corea led Return to Forever, McLaughlin started the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Tony Williams led Lifetime. Without exception, these groups were the defining forces of fusion (arguably the only ones that truly succeeded). That's what makes this album so incredible in historical context; anyone who would leave a mark on fusion was here, and anyone who wasn't here...wouldn't. That's what makes this more than an interesting experiment. It was the planting of a seed that altered the course of the careers of each musician here.

As for the music itself, the description has been more or less covered by the myriad of reviews already here. Suffice it to say that it is one of the rare musical documents that can be appreciated on ALL musical levels: there is enough interest in the soloists and group interaction to give it true depth and replay value, it's funky (though not overtly), it's brilliant mood music (as much as I hate that term), and it's even quiet enough to be shoved into the background (though why would you want to?). My favorite moment is when Tony Williams finally ramps up the groove about 13 minutes into the second track and pushes Miles to the next level of intensity.

Get this album to hear the music which sent forth the new wave of true innovators, arguably jazz's last (at least for now).

I am always skeptical but never fail to be blown away by the superb recommendations of the mighty indie music juggernaut Pitchforkmedia. It was only a short time ago that I half heartedly accepted listening to The Knife over a half year after Pitchfork announced it as their number one album of 2006. Initial listens confirmed my apathy, splaying taboo euro-techno drums and synths with awkward, processed vocals. I don't know quite what compelled me to make repeated listens really, but those subsequent listens have absolutely floored me. I have literally had the album on repeat amongst scores of incredible, enticing new music that I could be listening to. It is the first album to do that to me since Joanna Newsom's Ys. I feel like I can't keep listening to Silent Shout or else my 2006 gem (and my #1 of '06), Joanna Newsom's Ys, may be in danger of a retrospective rank toppling. That type of talk may just be from shock but it still isn't verifiably impossible. The Knife's Silent Shout is an absolutely unequivocal modern masterpiece. The difficulty is becoming familiar with and used to instrumentation that seemed to played out even in its hayday of the 80's. As previously experienced, you will likely play the first tracks and be wondering to yourself how anyone got suckered into buying into this Swedish hype. Patience though is the key here. The album must be consumed as a whole - only then will the kitschiness dissipate and the pure satisfaction of the album bleeds through. Slowly, one by one, every element from the seemingly inadequate drum machine to the apparently juvenile vocals will find their place and suddenly there is no turning back- you have already listened to the album 5 times in a row.

Silent Shout.......2007-06-08

Silent Shout~ The Knife is a great album from one of the best electronic bands that I have heard in a very long time. The Knife is a very original band and they certainly go against the grain with their strange lyrics and odd look. This is so refreshing since it really works and does not feel phoney or forced. The book-let is a very strange one with an artsy cover that is quite strange and perplexing. I have no idea what they had in mind to convey with that thing. Highly recommended indeed and I easily give this album 5 out of 5 stars.

Pitchfork, believe it or not, is wrong... a lot! Case in point, this record.......2007-05-22

Album of the Year?!!!? This record is, in places, a perfectly fine electro-pop record. In other places, however, the words 'dry toast' come to mind. There isn't a surprising moment on this entire album, and at it's worst it stinks of past Swedish sins a la Ace of Base with a touch of neo-Kylie Minogue thrown in. Interestingly enough, the record that came in at number 50 is an infinitely more interesting electronic record which manages to avoid the melodramatic plasticity that this one wallows in. Look it up! Bookashade!

One of 2006's bests.........2007-04-19

I'm still suprised to see that so many in the indie scene had the sense to so highly rate an electronic album such as this one.
A inventive electro album that thankfully as a unique sound (as so few electro albums sometimes have), you can see why the good ears of Mute Records picked up on this mysterious sibling Sweedish duo act.
"We share our mothers health" became one of the most bizarrely catchy singles of the year, with a awesome music video to go along with it, if you are in any doubt of buying this album, I recomend checking out the video on youtube, it will convert you.
Overall, the album is dark, filled with chilling background synths layered with wonderfully sharp keyboard lines and bass that makes even the most introverted start doing some foot tapping make it where you can't ignore this disc. The very avant garde vocal style is somehow still very accessable. The production is damn fine as well. This is most defintively not only a album that you will want to have on the dancefloor, but one that will make for a good time while on the headphones at home. The duo will have a hard time topping this one, however with this quality of album work they are sure to have a good career ahead of them if they can keep it up.

I love this album. It is completely refined as compared to The Knife's somewhat disjointed previous album, Deep Cuts, and it's hard to only listen to (or dance to) one track. Karin Andersson's voice is truly individual and delicately intense. Silent Shout is a beautifully constructed, atmospheric sequence of tracks that remind me of the aurora borealis reflected off shimmering snow. After months I still can't stop listening.

This compilation of music by Dvorak played by Yo-Yo Ma is just beautiful. Ma seems to understand just when Dvorak wants to be super-Romantic and sappy and when he is in fact being merely his usual expressive self. The former comes into bloom with the Slavonic Dance, in which he's accompanied by Itzhak Perlman and "Songs My Mother Taught Me," with Patricia Zander at the piano. But when it comes to revealing Dvorak as one of the most insightful and truly passionate of composers, with a particular understanding of the cello, Ma's playing of the B minor Concerto (under Kurt Masur, with the New York Philharmonic), the latter description comes into play. Ma gets every nuance out of the cello, and the way in which Masur, for instance, leads the winds against the cello at the start of the 2nd movement is just gorgeous. "Klid" ("Silent Woods") is given a deeply affecting reading as well, under Seiji Ozawa. 2004 is the 100th anniversary of Dvorak's death; this CD is fine tribute. --Robert Levine

words fail me on how to describe performance in this CD.It's very good, one of the best interpretations I have heard in a very long time. I must confess that since i discovered Ma du Pre I have not been able to listen to anything else nor did I attempt to do so. But out of the blue I bumped into this CD by chance & after hearing Yo Yo Ma's phraising especially the 1st movement infact the whole of Dvorak Cello was like something new to me.Ma plays with passion,emotions & strong commitment to the music in a different way.The Ochestra is in top form & allows the solo cello to shine at the right time.I never thought there is another interpretation that could surpass M.Rostropovich(Im sorry to say this I know he is a living legend & the 1969 record with Karajan is held in high esteem). Ma is accompanied by my favourate violinist Itzhak Perlman on "Humosresque no.7 for piano" & "Slavonic Dance no.10 in E minor"- the results are so sweet as many people know Perlman is a romantic specialist his tone with Ma's cello is heavenly.With regard to the "songs my mother taught me" the cello sounds good not best for the track personally im so used to hear the song being played on violin.There's nothing wrong with the cello it's just that it 's tone is a bit too strong for the composition but it's very well interpreted by Ma. They call this transcription in musical terms. Actually Ma deserves an apology as im one of those who have accused him of lacking in emotions &"look at me now i can play anything" attitude.I think those allegations are baseless & unwarranted when u hear this CD u will know u are into something beautiful. Overall grab this very fast before many people realise Yo-Yo Ma 's greatest gift of song.

When he was growing up, Andrea Bocelli recalls finding inspiration in a favorite recording of sacred music performed by tenor legend Franco Corelli. Bocelli--who in the meantime has come to inspire millions of fiercely loyal fans himself--returns to the genre as the guiding theme of Sacred Arias, the release of which coincides with the first English-language biography of the singer. These performances are filled with the singer's phenomenally well-known vocal signature: his flair for long, sweetly floating high notes and the gentle sense of cadence he brings to a melody. It's a mistake to compartmentalize Bocelli into a singer of "operatic" versus "popular" styles: in truth his approach is at heart the same. Lack of color and control in his phrasing remains a drawback, but the emotional empathy Bocelli evokes is never in doubt. The arias collected here sample some of the most famous devotional pieces: Schubert's "Ave Maria" and Mozart's transporting "Ave Verum," as well as an arrangement of "Silent Night" in which Bocelli tries out his English. There's also a decidedly odd choice of bedfellows for a program of "sacred" music, such as a song from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder (whose "angel" is the object of an overpoweringly erotic attraction) and Handel's figurative ode to a tree, "Ombra mai fu." Beautiful music.......2007-01-12

This is my second copy of this CD, I burned the first one out!!
Andrea Bocelli has a very gorgeous voice that is a gift from above. His voice is not affected or braggadoccio but naturally magnificent. I could and do start my day listening to this spiritually uplifting CD almost everyday. It is a wonderful way to get off to a pleasant peaceful start, but also a nice way to come home in the evening if you have a CD player in your car. I highly recommend it to all.

I bought this CD's special edition with DVD, and I am impressed by bocelli's singing in this album. I have heard many voices singing sacred songs, and christmas songs, but very few singers can achieve the "sacred atmosphere" that bocelli devotes when he sings. He may not have a "strong" voice as opera singers, but I think singing these sacred songs, devoting the "sacred atmosphere" to the audience is much more important, the voice actually is just a tool that helps a singer to achieve the result. For real, I have heard some CD by some chorus that perform sacred arias, but they did not move me as much as this CD does, mostly not even close. Personally I like "O come all ye faithful", "silent night", all "ave maria"'s, "domine deus", "cujus animam" the most. When I listen Bocelli's singing I focus on what he tries to devote in singing more than his voice color, because in terms of voice color he surely cant be compared with pavarotti or domingo, so why compares? The way of listening him and listening real opera singers is different man. But the reason I gave only this CD four stars is that I have heard several sacred arias from this album performed by his voice teacher, the legendary tenor Franco Corelli. I tried not to compare both...but I cant, not because Bocelli sings bad, he is already excellent, just Corelli is TOO excellent that cant be described by human language (well I think even Pavarotti is not even close to Franco Corelli, but this is just my opinion). Anyway if you want to "experience" the true beauty of sacred arias, this CD is highly recommended. And this is also a very good sacred aria album for beginning listeners who want to broaden their musical taste to sacred arias.

These are just terrific. How does Andrea acheive the range he does, and the power he has, without sounding too heavy or too light? His voice sounds like the perfect voice for these perfect arias.

I have noticed one concern with the CD. I have heard several clicks scattered here and there in the songs -- but the CD is clean and I feel confident it is not the machine. Has anyone else noticed this?

C&C at their best.......2007-07-04

This album should be called "The Best of Coheed and Cambria". The opening track is a refined version of the opener from SSTB, and it just gets better from there. Title track gets the show going quickly, with the two radio singles sprinkled into the "storyline" that is C&C's trademark. Personal favorite is Camper Velorium III. Where else can you here the line "Die white girls, bye bye world."?

Coheed and Cambria... I've listened to quite a number of different bands in the last 2 years, but there are really only two that I still listen to routinely: Coheed and Cambria and Weezer.

I think I like Coheed better because of their prog tendencies. Especially The Light and The Glass and The Camper Velorium III (the latter isn't very prog, though).

This band's a really good transition from the pop-punk most people listen to to the prog that really blows the mind. They don't seem to do a lot of weird time signatures like Dream Theater or Genesis, but the ongoing story and extended tracks make them prog. Halfway.

Just, please, don't call them emo or punk. For my sanity.

keeping the secrets.......2006-11-12

Coheed & Cambria, made a giant leap from their first LP. One big difference is Claudio's vocals. They have grown deeper on this album (quite a blessing) and the songs are filled with wonderful guitar ballads (In Keeping the Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Cuts Marked In the March of Men, The Crowing). Between the awesome guitar playing, the lyrics are definitly something to pay attention to (for ex. "I'll do anything for you...I'll cut the throats of babies...), yeah these songs can be violent and beautiful at the same time. The Light & The Glass, is also another beautiful song (which includes the line "Good Apollo, I'll be Burning Star IV", referencing the title of their next album). If you have never heard of this band, well try this cd. You will be hooked. Fans of the first cd, well you probably already have this.

Coheed & Cambria's second release, third part in Claudio Sanchez's epic sci-fi story, and heaviest album yet. Right from the start it pulls you in with the amazing guitars, technical drums, and emotional vocals. A definite for any one even the slightest bit interested in Co&Ca.

Since when was it good music for a guy who sounds like a girl to blurt out expletives overtop of lame chord progressions? Never! This album seems to be the band's most respected work, though if you ask me they deserve no respect. The brains of all these five star reviewers have apparently been numbed musically, because surely no-one in an upright American society would be fooled into thinking this so-called "Music" is actually good for the ears. Wrong-o! This album, right here, is the worst CD I have ever heard. I promise you that is no spur of the moment exaggeration, it's just so awful. This band needs to lose its popularity NOW. They're just like New Found Glory and Rush; ruined by the singer. But in this case, the music wouldn't have been any good with another singer even; everything that could go wrong has.
If you want GOOD music, ya ain't gonna find it here! I highly recommend Muse, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and Oasis, but that's just me. This CD is so horrible; I could go on forever about its inferiority in the music world but the music speaks for itself. Sheesh does it suck. 'Tis all 4 now.

It's not a bad CD, although I believe there has got to be a better rendition of The Swan somewhere out there. The problem with this version is that the piano overwhelms the cello playing.

The rest of the CD is pretty nice and relaxing. Worth what I paid for it.

I bought this CD solely based on the fact that I love the cello. I do not pretend to know classical music - I buy what I like to hear, and this CD exceeded my expectations. It is such a pleasure to listen to this disk; it is soothing and every track is worth it!

75 minutes of meditative music.......2001-12-13

The cello is almost always the instrument I turn to for relaxation. It meditates upon a deeper, slower spectrum of emotion than say, a harp or violin.

I put this CD to the ultimate test and took it to the hospital with me, to see if its music could counteract the threat and ultimate deployment of needles---and it was indeed much less painful to be poked while in a state of relaxation, as induced by these (mainly 19th century) compositions.

My two favorite selections from "Cello for Relaxation" are Camille Saint-Saëns' "The Swan" from "Carnival of the Animals," and John Tavener's "Chant," which is an unaccompanied melody, "without barlines or meter, shaped as a palindrome." Steven Isserles performs as the cello soloist for both of these compositions.

In my continuing search for relaxation music, this CD now rates as number one. Its music was selected with a sensitivity to dynamics, and beautiful, adagio playing. Its musicality is superb and unobtrusively displayed, and allows the listener to meditate, or relax into much-needed sleep.
