The disgrace of "little" labels is the lack of knowledge of the public in general about their performers and the hidden treasures that they intend to be known. This recording is one of the strange discoveries that make people wonder about the justice made over these efforts. The Spohr works are fantastic, strongly related with Schubert and with sparkles of Schumann-like nuances, plenty of surprises in both harmony and rhythm, and Isler's performance works perfectly in making them clear with no attempt of being artificial; his natural, consistent, inspired playing makes perfect justice to both Spohr's works. Schubert's masterpiece, with the strong competition to be found in this area of his production, is superbly played and worthy of struggling with any of the big names of the main labels. Absolutely recommended.
