Album Description
Composers have always been fascinated by the connection between music and images of all kinds whether in nature or man-made. This recording includes three works that take creations in the visual arts from different times and cultures as their inspiration. Moussorgsky was attracted to the drawings of Viktor Hartmann since the passion of both men was to capture the spirit of the common Russian people in their art. Harold Triggs catches the lighter, more humorous side of the surrealist style as well as the urbane and witty feel of 1940's New York. In the multi-cultural milieu of our own time, Allen Krantz creates a sweeping musical collage inspired by traditional middle-eastern weaving designs. Each ofthe works uses the unique ability of the piano to communicate the most intimate and poetic as well as the most grand of moods - an instrument perfectly suited to create images in sound.
