    Alexander Fjodorovich Goedicke (1877-1957) received his first music lessons from his father, who taught piano at the Moscow Conservatory. The composer Taneyev instructed him in composition. He won the Rubinstein Prize in Vienna in 1900. In 1909, at the age of thirty-two, he was appointed professor at the Moscow Conservatory where he taught until his death. While remaining comparatively unknown in Middle and Western Europe, Goedicke enjoyed considerable repute in Eastern Europe as a composer and concert performer, particularly in the states which succeeded the czarist empire. The works featured on this CD represent a cross section of the works of his middle creative period, from the years 1915-30.
