Album Description
Alexander Feht's music shies away from racking experiments with atonality, frowns upon the fashionable premeditated murder of anything remotely "tuny", and returns us to the grass roots of classical tradition. Composer believes that real music cannot survive without a harmony based on the laws of natural acoustic perception, as real poetry cannot exist without an understandable language. However, a trained ear will immediately notice some influences of the contemporary tonal music, new harmonies, new modulations. Feht does what every notable composer did in his time: uses traditional material as a sound foundation for enduring creativity. Feht's music has its own unmistakable and beautiful classical feel.

Alexander Feht has written more than 100 art songs, an opera, violin and piano sonatas, several string quartets, and a chamber symphony. His future CDs will contain full song cycles. The next one, "Arion", will consist of the 21 songs on the famous Alexander Pushkin's poems. His current disc, "Demon", is something of a sampler of songs taken from the various cycles; this collection is a good introduction to Feht's music.

A side project doesn't usually hit gold, especially when said project is a quirky virtual collective fronted by cartoon characters. But the first, self-titled album by Gorillaz--the brainchild of illustrator Jamie Hewlett and Blur frontman Damon Albarn--actually hit platinum and turned into a surprise worldwide hit. Naturally expectations were a lot higher for Gorillaz's sophomore effort, but Demon Days actually is even better than its predecessor. With producer Dan "the Automator" Nakamura gone, Albarn, a.k.a. 2D, has paired up with DJ Danger Mouse (responsible for the infamous Grey Album that illegally mixed the Beatles and Jay-Z) to steer the musical ship, while a whole new slew of guests enlivens the proceedings. Albarn has described Demon Days as being darker, but there's a real kooky dance-party vibe coursing through the CD. Despite its somber tone, "Kids with Guns" is lifted by a killer bass line, for instance, while the catchy first single, "Feel Good Inc," is augmented by an appealing contribution from De La Soul. Other noteworthy guests include Roots Manuva and Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird on the dubby "All Alone" and Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder on the bouncy "DARE." And yet it's a 69-year-old actor who gets to deliver the most baffling contribution--just listen to Dennis Hopper's spoken-word narrative on "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head." Don't listen to the 1 and 2 star's.......2007-07-09

They are a bunch of idiots who bought this album for the radio friendly singles. This is easily one of the most complex, intelligent, and layered albums of the decade. A addictive mix of Rock, hip hop, and brains, everysong on this album is brilliant, the only low being the far to long "Every Planet We Reach is Dead".
I've seen some people complain about it being depressing. SO WHAT? It's not emo, just honest, and truthful.
For me the album is about the wrongs of modern society, But interpratation seem to vary, with the Iraq war in the lead. Far from the "collection of random sounds" some would have you think. Yes, they are heavy on the synths, but the songs are brilliant on musical level as well, as the lyrical.
I think this album is supposed to take place in some kind of apocalyptic/and or totalitarian future, by the way.

Just so you know, lyrically this is a VERY bleak album, barely letting up in DARE

Last Living Souls 4/5- Simple opener, asking if they are the last good people left on this Earth, finally deciding that they must be with the line "Yeah, we're the last livin' souls"

Kids With Guns 5/5-My favorite track, Killer bass line, either about how we let society turn ourselves to monsters(So they're turning yourselfs to monster's/Setting yourself on fire/Turning you all to monsters/ Its all desire), or the Iraq War depending on your interpretation of the album as a whole

O' Green World 4/5-A song about either mans destruction of our only planet through polution, or mans destruction of its only planet through nuclear war. I said the album was bleak

Dirty Harry 5/5- A initially light and jumpy song, until you realize that the lightness is supposed to symbolize how those of us who have not been in war are innoncent and iggnorant of the horror AND the Iraq war(I need a gun/To keep myself from harm/ those poor people/ are burning in the sun/...I need a gun/'cus all I do is dance) The act of dancing in the song represent innocence, and about half way through, one of the best rap's i've ever heard comes out, this time from the point of view of a soldier ending in a few lines aimed directly at bush, and a couple of line of him remembering when he could dance,or be innocent(The war is over/So said the speaker/with the flight suit on/Maybe to him I'm just a pawn /So he can advance /Remember when I used to dance /Man, all I want to do is dance)

Feel Good inc. 5/5- You all know how it sounds. Its about how we surround ourselves with stuff that we think makes us feel good, because the corporations(symbolized by the De La Soul, the rapper) tell us so. But in the end all we need to be happy is purity and love(I.e. the windmill)

El Manana 5/5-Slow, and mournful. About a lost love, or maybe a soldier who commited atrocities so bad he's god has forsaken him

Every Planet We Reach is Dead 3/5- I like this song, but its drags on, and I don't mind a long song, but this DRAAAGGGGSSSS. So I have no clue what its about, because i skip it :P

And i'm stopping there, you can figure the rest out yourself. My fingers are hurt and i'm tired.

Oh, and it passes generational barriers as well, my 50 year old grandma loves this album to! Then again, she's not into what you would think of as "Old person music"(Frank Sinatra FTW!) so don't go buying it as a gift for you grammy.

i've been a fan of gorillaz since my college years. they've stayed true to their style. but of course you already know that or you wouldn't be considering buying it and reading reviews.

A Smooth, Haunting Album.......2007-06-17

I recently reviewed Gorillaz first self titled album, giving it two stars.

Who can say why things happen the way they do, but somewhere between the release of their first album, and their second, the Gorillaz got their s~~t together.

For the first sound of 2D singing "Are we the last living souls?" to the last haunting sounds of the choir singing on "Demon Days" aside from a slight misstep, this album takes off and doesn't look back.

Each song has its own distinctiveness, but a thread of melancholy invades almost every second of the album, due almost entirely to Damon "2D" Albarn's raspy, intentionally tired sounding voice. This voice fits perfectly with 2D on the Gorillaz music videos, who looks like he's either been crying, or high on pot. LOL

Its hard to choose favorites, each song is a gem (accept, perhaps, for White Lights, but that, I'm sure, is debateable), but if I were to base it on the songs I listen to the most, it would be Last Living Souls, Kids With Guns, Feel Good INC, La Manana, All Alone, and Dare. As you can see that is like half the album, and I definately would have to point out, the other soungs are great themselves.

"Demon Days" utilizes, in a way the first album was unable to do, a perfect blend of solid beats, smooth vocals, and strong raps. I bought this album a couple of years after its release so the only question now is: when does the next one come out!?

Not as varied or as timeless/great as the first CD, but still a pretty solid effort........2007-06-16

The first Gorillaz CD is to Gorillaz as Nevermind was to Nirvana. It is the timeless classic that can be listened to over and over again without a likely chance of growing tired of it. While this CD is less of an acquired taste than the first CD is, and is still very good, it's not as good.

Danger Mouse pales in comparison to Dan the Automater's producing skills in the first work. The reason for this is in the variety. Danger Mouse has set a tone that plays throughout the CD, with each and every track. Dan the Automater on the other hand, delivered a CD with so much variety there would have to be something for everyone. Whereas CD 1 covered the broad range of reggae, Latin, punk, pop, rock, dance, rap, hip-hop, DJ, ska, and just about every type of music available, this CD sticks its feet in firm territory and never moves.

CD 1 is for the music in general lover, CD 2 is for those like the one particular sound that can be heard in most of the Gorillaz more recent videos. If you had to choose between the two, I'd go with CD 1 first, and then maybe get CD 2 later, when you get the chance.

Just make sure CD 1 comes with Dracula, Suzuki Left Hand Method, and the Clint Eastwood/19-2000 remixes as well... as most of original Gorillaz albums these days should have. You wanna get the most for your money after all.

Sweeney Lives!.......2007-05-14

"Sweeney Todd" was and is Sondheim's grand masterpiece, Tim Doyle notwithstanding, and this recording is the grand masterpiece of Sweeney Todd recordings. Listen to Len Cariou's voice -- magnificent! (And he was suffering from a bad cold/sore throat, supposedly caused by the fake earth the gravediggers used to shovel in the beginning minutes of the Broadway version of the musical). Angela never sounded better than on this remastered CD. On a small system like a boombox or a portable you won't notice a big improvement on the original CD, but on a room system you will feel the difference. The "bonus" tracks are a total waste of CD space. Couldn't they have found a rehearsal tape or a demo or something??? I think so.

I remember my mother driving me to the Korvette's Dept store at the Blue Star Shopping Center to get the original Sweeney Todd LP (yes, that's how old I am...). I played it to death, almost literally. I think I went through another LP set and a casette tape set before CDs came out. In my mind, nothing will ever beat that LP for sound and emotion and power, but this remastered CD is the next best thing.

A Masterpiece.......2007-05-06

Sweeney Todd is arguably one of the greatest musicals ever written. It has gorgeous melodies, witty and poetic lyrics, and a thrilling plot. The CD also showcases one of the best casts Broadway has ever seen.

Angela Lansbury is sensational as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney's "partner in crime". She delivers every song in a brilliant British music hall style, and every track she is on stands out. She is luminous.

Len Cariou is simply marvelous. While most people know (the highly overrated George Hearn) from the video, in my mind Len remains the definitive Sweeney. He plays the part with a brooding intensity and shocks as well as chills. His "Ephiphany" is possibly the best track on the album. A thrilling performance.

The rest of the cast is also spectacular. Ken Jennings is a very sweet and heartbreaking Tobias. Victor Garber delivers "Johanna" with a strong voice. Sarah Rice also does very well as Johanna, both sh a Garber are a delight in "Kiss Me".

This is a cast ablbum every true Broadway fan should own. It is, in a word, magnificent.

If you're going to hear a musical..........2006-09-04

...make it this one!

Sondheim's 'Sweeney Todd' has been described as quasi-operatic, so unending is the musical flow in this masterpiece. The plot is twisted and insidious, but something that many can take a sort of perverse pleasure in watching unfold. Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett is the jewel of this recording. Heartbreaking in 'The Worst Pies in London,' Lansbury also manages to sound obsequious and nasty ('God, that's good!') and even slightly insane (the final scene). Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd may feel a bit underpowered at times, but it all goes to underscore the differences between the Todd character's outward appearances and inward struggle.

The supporting cast rises to the challenge, with an especially wide-eyed Toby and a very fruity Pirelli. The chorus is powerful and borders on the edge of manic insanity in such gripping moments as 'City on Fire.' My personal favorite from this set is the crazed, joyous counterpoint of three soloists and the chorus all singing atop each other in 'God, that's good!'

This is a beautiful recording and a triumph of the 'musical' genre. Don't miss it!

Good but...........2006-06-16

Sondheim is regarded as being a "musical genius" but I would strongly disagree. While his music is certainly complex (bordering on chaotic), he has yet to evoke any emotion or passion in his music. His melodies are pretty, witty, complex or intellectual. Never gorgeous.

With that said, Sweeny Todd is definitely his best work. There are a few good numbers in here. "Joanna" is a pretty tune and so is "Not While I'm Around" but, again, not gorgeous. My personal favorite has always been "Kiss Me", a lyrically witty love declaration between the two young lovers.

Everyone always criticizes Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, which, in my opinion, is often luscious, sweeping and dramatic. It evokes the days of Puccini and even Rogers & Hammerstein. I'll admit Andrew Lloyd Webber is far from brilliant and he is famous for using the most insipid lyricists in the history of musical theatre, but Sondheim's music is incapable of approaching the gorgeousness of Webber's work. Now I will say that if you attend a Sondheim musical, you're in for an intellectually stimulating experience.

Just because music is intellectual does not mean it's wonderful. Sometimes intellectual is just that. When I go to the theatre, I want to be moved, not quizzed. Sondheim needs to learn how to compose melodies that, at least, follow some form or structure and don't simply drift off into A-tonal murkiness. An audience can't be expected to cry or experience emotions if the music isn't lifting them or taking them anywhere.

On last thought...
Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show on Broadway...and there's a reason! It's moving. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to be moves by the sweeping melodies. You can point out all of the show's shortcomings but you cannot deny that most of Webber's score is gorgeous. No matter who you are, if you go see Phantom of the Opera you will be moved. You could also see Sweeny Todd on Broadway and find it interesting and amusing. To say the least, you'll walk out of the theatre thinking, "Wow I was just intellectually stimulated! ALL RIGHT!"...and that's about it.

Webber's music IS musical theatre, Sondheim's music is like a sea of watercolors that bleeds into a murky mess.

Klezmer tunes, punk attitude.......2007-06-13

I adore this CD. I saw them open for Modest Mouse in Philadephia, and was annoyed to sit through two opening acts before the main event. Despite my bad attitude, Man Man immediately won me over with the most energetic performance I'd ever seen. I bought this CD at the show and it's been playing nonstop ever since. They are somewhat reminiscent of the Pogues in that they take a more traditional music (klezmer) and stir up the pot with punk attitude and energy. Check out their YouTube performances for a better sense, or just buy the album!

The album, fantastic. Buy it without hesitation. Get their first album too if you haven't already. This is a truly unique band and if you've just got to experience their manic originality. Every song is a completley new approach.

But far more importantly, NEVER pass up the chance to see these guys play live. It's an experience you won't ever forget. Five guys beating the hell out of a myriad of instruments (some obviously homemade concoctions), leaping around as they switch and trade instruments and all the while keeping absolutely impeccable rhythm and melody. Tight, tight band that's so much fun to watch you feel like you're up on the stage with them. They give it all they've got at every show and they've got a hell of a lot to give. You will be amazed.

forget comparisons.......2006-08-06

zappa, beefheart, waits...yes, one can hear those artists present, but really, how many kids today know about all that? this is a weird record. and this is why i like it. they are not afraid to take chances. now if they could only concentrate on writing better "songs". i know the focus is on the manic live shows, but ultimately an act is remembered for their actual audio product. this is all that lasts. was big star a great live show? was neu!? who cares! they still matter thirty years on. why? the songs. that said, give this twisted effort a chance and you may just be singing like a drunken viking by morning.

Most interesting and fun music I've heard (and seen) in a long long time.......2006-07-24

Mixing Tom Waits, Zappa, and even a little of Nick Cave, this band is definitely worth a listen. As other reviewers have said, their onstage dynamic carnival of sound and action shouldn't be missed either. This band has FUN, and makes sure their audience does too. I sincerely hope to see them in concert again and a new album soon.

When I first bought "Six Demon Bag" I was impressed. I mean, who doesn't love any band that mixes Tom Waits, Beefheart, Zappa, and The Residents? But I probably would have only given this album 4 stars at that point. It was good, but seemed a bit like every song sounded the same. I still can't deny that there is an aspect of that to their music.

However, a month after I bought the album I went down to the MacRock music "festival" in Harrisonburg, VA. I went specifically (from Central PA) to see Pattern Is Movement, but was also pumped that Man Man was on the bill. So, PiM had a good set (too short, maybe 25 minutes in length) and several bands later was Man Man. Now, MacRock is set up so that it is actually held in various venues in Harrisonburg, be it a bar, club, or JMU (the college, which is the worst campus I have ever been on-- avoid at all cost whenever possible!). So the show did not FEEL like a festival show.

Man Man gets on and totally blows me away. I have seen some insane shows in my day (16 Horsepower, Sufjan Stevens) but this was awe-inspiring. (Now when people ask me what the best show I ever saw was I have to list three.) They keyboard player/lead singer/visionary was set up just left of center, with his keyboard facing the right side of stage. The drummer was set up upfront, drums facing the left side of the stage, drums practically touching the keyboard. Then in a semi-circle behind/around those two were four guys who served as multi-insrumentalists/back-up singers.

They played as if they were beating off the grips of Hell, frantic and impassioned. At various points during the show someone would run around, grab one of the many props cluttering the stage, and use it to make some kind of noise-- not in front of a mic or anything (so when you go to a show, get up front!!) but just so that whoever cared to hear and could would marvel at it. The one that sticks in my mind is when the keyboard player jumped up mid-song and grabbed a popgun off of someone's music stand and shot it off several times before running back to the keyboard.

And what took it out of "awe, that's cute and clever" area and into "****ing amazing!" is how ridiculously in-sync with each other they were. I hesitate to call it "tight" because this style of music is not really supposed to be "tight", per se. But everything was as it was supposed to be-- so I suppose "tight" might be a close enough description.

It was one of those rare sets which seemed to last both forever and an instant, all at the same time. If I had to guess, I would say it lasted 45 minutes-- which was the scheduled allotment of time. You know that natural high you get after you see a really great show? That high lingered with me about a week after I saw the set... and even now, if I think back to it, it gets recreated. It was special.

And appereantly not isolated, as every report I read of their live shows echoes the things I just said. So if you get a chance to go see them live, DO SO. I can not stress it enough. SEE THEM LIVE.

Ever since then I can't listen to this cd seperate from what I expereinced at the show. The album is flawless, despite what I may have said in my first paragraph. Helpful to a potential buyer? Probably not. But it is what I have experienced, and I can't depart from that.

Don't Let the Glasses Fool You.......2007-04-28

I've always loved DB. Highly textured bluegrass breakneck breakdowns to big band to blues, and the heartbreaking Bojangles. This was his second. Keep an eye out for the first one, which starts with Last Blues for Shelby Jean.

While I don't want to turn this into a discussion board, I would like to respond to the previous review to mine. I'm 17 and am as much of a dead head one could possibly be having only been born 17 years ago. And just as you said, I am also a HUGE David Bromberg fan. In fact, I must admit, from a musician's standpoint (I've been playing the violin since the age of 4), that I like Bromberg better. I would really like to see a revival of this kind of music too. The music being made today is absolutely terrible. I have no respect for it nor do I have respect for those who listen to it (which is like everyone my age). However, I'm very doubtful that this would happen. MTV would never have that, so obviously, there will be no revival because MTV makes the trends. Buy this CD as well as every other David Bromberg CD! He deserves your money!!

How could I forget?.......2006-05-30

Back in the day, in high school and college, if you were a Dead Head you also loved Bromberg. I was, and I did. And while now I still think the Dead made some great music and I like hearing it again, I confess that I forgot how great Bromberg was (and probably still is). In the 80s I worked at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston and I saw EVERYBODY. And along with Prince, the Boss, the Eurythmics, Stevie Wonder, and probably 4 or 5 more, David Bromberg-who is physically the least likely of pop/rock/blues sexy stars-remains one the the best live shows I've ever seen. He rocks so good. Someone else said in a review that it's time for his music to have a sort of revival; for people to rediscover him. It is. If you like rock, newgrass, blues, you'll dig him.

I went out on a big cyber Easter egg hunt for a song that I remembered of David's songbook that contained this haunting line: "A man should never gamble...more than he can stand to lose." This sung in a voice that knows the true meaning of the price that's paid for such a foolish risk. That song, is 'Diamond Lil', just in case anyone else is trying to put 2 and 2 together, and it's the fourth cut on this disc. I was right it's still haunting and honest, and gorgeous.

This album is from the tail end of an era when there were so many albums that were just plain good from beginning to end and this is no exception. Some might see the song listed here: "Mr. Bojangles" and think of the Hollywood schmaltz and crassness that Sammy Davis Jr. turned it into. Not so. David gives praise to it's creator Jerry Jeff Walker, along with a funny story about it's true origins, and then proceeds to rip your heart out with his beautiful rendition of it. I have Jerry Jeff's version and David's....I prefer this one.

His songwriting and musicianship were at its peak, his band of amigos were all stellar musicians from other bands, they cover Irish fiddle tunes and reels, folk, bluegrass, rock/carney/main street moan fusion (inside joke - you'll get it when you buy the disc) and even a waltz from Tennessee. So there's literally something for everyone. Sorry, this was pre-RAP.

I had the great fortune of seeing Mr. Bromberg around the time this album was made, and as far being an accessible, down to earth, friendly, just plain nice guy on stage, as well as a consummate musician at such an early age, I don't think I saw anyone else that could have topped him (in all those areas) at that moment in time. I think that 6 of the 9 tracks on Demon in Disguise are live and they sound just like studio recordings except that all of a sudden you hear people applauding at the end! Except for the obviously live songs (Bojangles), that kind of spooked me a bit! I guess we have Wounded Bird Records to thank for the great mastering job.

Anyway, you'll be doing your ears and musical soul a great kindness to partake in this bit of musical history. It's more than great, if you let it wash over you it's magic!

Oh, and don't let the glasses fool ya.

well i guess i am bit of an outsider compared to EVERYONE else on here. while i agree that tryptich is their best album..... i thoroughly enjoy the s/t release over SOD. i can admit i love metal and nothing compares to the lead vocalist growl... but im not so into it that it doesnt all start sounding the same eventually. i think tryptich and the s/t offer a nice blend of listening variety compared to summer of darkness....dont get me wrong.... i still enjoy SOD, but i find myself listening to the other two more. ofcourse it could be that this album was my first DH album and i automatically fell for it.... so i guess there is a sentimental value as well.

One nu-metal album that's worth buying........2007-05-20

Demon Hunter takes a lot of criticism to counter their popularity, as any popular nu-metal band does, and in some of their later releases this criticism is quite warranted. This release, however, stands out from their other material.

The vocals are excellent in this album, alternating between metalcore growls and intense but melodic clean vocals. Ryan Clark nows how to write a good melody, and it shows in catchy, memorable verses and choruses. Even the unmelodic screaming is often rather memorable, with the rhythm of the vox mixed up a lot. The guitar riffs focus on power-chords, and the bass tends to play roots and get drowned in the mix, but the production (and nice, full drum parts) gives the album a nonetheless very full sound. Even when the band's sound isn't mixing things up by adding violin parts (as in "My Throat Is an Open Grave") or harpsichord ("Turn Your Back and Run"), they mix thing up enough to keep things interesting.

The album just gives the feeling of something very nicely put together--it's fun to listen to, and I haven't gotten tired of it even after having it for several years. I am bothered by the drop in quality that Demon Hunter's later releases had, but that doesn't stop me from listening to this album a fair amount. It's no masterpiece, but it's a lot of fun to listen to, and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for some simple, nonintellectual, headbanging fun.

This cd was pretty good , but when I got it I had already owned Summer Of Darkness, so it wasn't as cool, because I think Summer Of darkness is a little bit better. I enjoy this cd, but if I hadn't owned SOD I would of enjoyed it much more.

First off, I want to say that Summer of Darkness is this band's best release. This disc had a lot more singing than Summer of Darkness, which I thought was a little bit of a setback. Although, My Throat is an Open Grave is an amazing ballad and one of my favorites. Other notable songs on the album are Screams of the Undead, I Have Seen Where it Grows, Infected, and Through the Black. This was a good release but certainly not their best work.

If you already own the original, don't bother..........2007-06-19

Demon Hunter is my favourite band. Period. However, this special edition was very disappointing for me, as I already own the original release of The Triptych. It has a few extra acoustic tracks (which I never care for anyway) and some poorly remixed favourites that were perfect already. The making of was ineresting, but unsatisfying.

I regret purchasing this, if not for the simple addition to my fan collection, and never even pull it out anymore.

RECOMMENDATION: If you already own the original and can live without a few mediocre bonus tracks and so-so making of videos, save the cash for their next (hopeful) studio release.

Great Acoustic arrangements..........2007-01-29

I'm surprised how many of you all didn't like the acoustic arrangements - you're free to make up your own mind, but as for me, I thought they were exceptionally well done. Yes, I love the electric versions, but there is something raw and deep about these particular acoustic arrangements - in my opinion they build on the originals.

This is the best Speical Edition CD I own and thank god I got it for Christmas. Reviews of the song

1. The Flame That Guides us Home- Very cool intro to Not I.

2. Not I- Awesome song to start off this awesome CD.

3. Undying- Great song and my first video from them.

4. Relentless Intolerence- Really good guitar and lyrics.

5. Deteriorate- At first, I hated it. Sounded like Linkin Park kind of singing. But after a few listen, it became one of my favorites.

6. The Soldier Song- My favorite song off this album. Very great song for the people who are fighting the war in Iraq. I love the solo too.

7. Fire To My Soul- For some reason this song should be the song to start of this album. Anywho, this is a great song.

8. One Thousand Apologies- Same as Deteriorate.

9. The Science of Lies- My second favorite and I love the drums during the chourse.

10. Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck- Never heard of the Prong version of this song but it sounds a really good song from Prong and Demon Hunter.

11. Ribcage- Last heavy song on this album and my third favorite.

12. The Tide Begin To Rise- Nice slow clam song

13-15- There all acoustic...and not my type of music.

16. Undying Remix- Great remix I'm also a fan of techno music.

Demon Hunter really lets their light shine. I really enjoy the dual vocals that they do. my one complaint about this album is that they don't have any cover songs on it. the last album they did has "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong. I have a beef for those that criticize this band because of its Christianity. I am a Christian and I not only listen to Christian metal, but all types of metal as well, except alt metal, and I want to say that if you don't like Christian metal, don't listen to it, and spare your criticisms for something else.

I discovered Demon Hunter just recently. Quite simply, Summer of Darkness is one of the best metal albums I have added to my collection in the last 10 years. The band is obviously very passionate about its work, which really shows in their music. In every respect, this is an excellent contribution to the genre.

Anyways, this would have to be my lease favorite but it still an awesome album. Review of the songs

1. Not Ready To Die- What an awesome song and video. The lyrics are great and the I love the chourse to this song.

2. The Awakening- For some weird reason, I think it's an ok song. Kinda too much singing but if it would it have more screaming, it would be my favorite.

3. Beheaded- Awesome, awesome, song. The guest vocals id from The Agony Scene (One of my favorite bands...They're not Christian!) Very good combination with the singing of these two.

4. My Heartstrings Come Undone- A slow one and kinda like a Linkin Park signing (I hate Linkin Park BTW) but still an ok song.

5. Our Faces Fall Apart- Awesome song as well, very cool lyrics and I love what they did at the beinging with the heartbeat.

6. Less Than Nothing- I like the guitar and at first, I didn't like the chourse part but I got to listen to it some more and I'm getting used to it. Again great verse, ok chourse.

7. Summer of Darkness- Pretty good song and great choice of a name and I love what they say in the beinging!

8. Beauty Through the Eyes of a Predator- OMFG! This is the greastest song that Demon Hunter ever played. This song is amazing! I love everything of this song the screaming, the singing, the guitars, ect. Best song on this CD

9. Annihilate the Corrupt- Pretty good I like everything on this also but not as good as Beauty Through the Eyes.

10. I Play Dead- At first didn't like it, but after a few listen, still didn't like it. So I tried it again...nope. Maybe not my type for some weird reason.

11. Everything Was White- I also like this song. Very good lyrics and the chourse could get getting used to.

12. Coffin Builder- Really good song and I love the chourse

13. The Lastest and the Last- My second favorite and a really awesome song to end Summer of Darkness.

This CD is incredible. One second the lead singer is growling and screaming to no end, the next he changes it up to very good sounding singing. The guitars and drums are very interesting and catchy, and while not outwardly christian, the lyrics are thought provoking and very well written. I think the band has become alot better since their s/t album, and I think they are even better on the songs I've heard off of The Triptych. An all around well put together CD. Well worth the money.

So basically, Demon Hunter's third album blew me away. The sound quality and effects of the album added to the raw talent of these guys to create a freaking awesome album! Aaron Sprinkle did a GREAT job in creating this album with the band, and the bonus tracks on the special edition are definetely worth it, as well as the behind the scenes stuff. It's great to see the band behind closed doors, and it gives you a better idea of why they make the music they do. If you don't own this album and want something to satiate your need for heavy guitars, growling vocals and thundering bass and drums, look no further!

First off dude, i feel that you understand that paradoxes exist, and in that i am glad. But i fear that you dont understand exactly what may be a paradox. For example, "Christian Metal" is not a paradox because technically metal does not constitute that singing of Christ and God are in any way against the rules of metal. They do not co-exist in opposite directions, thus proving that Christian Metal is not a paradox. An example of a true paradox is an omnipitant (all powerful) God becoming vulnerable and weak for the sake of man and saving man only through His death and utter humility and vulnerability. Another one is that God became a human. God is a being whom is not bound by the limits of time or anything else. Humans, though, ARE bound by time, space, and the flesh. So, by a being whom is boundless becoming a being that is bound is a paradox.
Second off, what if i were to say, "the only good metal is metal that is about God." Wouldnt that be kinda arrogant? I love all metal, whether it speaks of God or not. But the point is, is that by excluding and judging bands on if they sing about God or not is a completely irrational decision that unnecessarily hurts yourself and others. For you are missing out on good talent and you are making judgments upon those whom you dont know and on something you probably know very very little about. In fact, most of the metal out there that doesnt talk about God talks about themselves and their own experiences. Is that not selfish? Are they not only making themselves idols for you to praise and even vainly worship (although, I do understand that that is not always the case)? But the second someone talks/sings about God,(someone OTHER than themselves) ye who shut off Christians all around are immediately offended and discard the talent and work of the band.
Well anyway, im not angry, so you know, just wanted to clear a couple things up with you.
The Triptych sounds good. I dont have any of their CD's yet, but they sound good. Live and Die for and like Christ.

Star wars vet, have you even listened to this cd? Listen to the tracks "Relenteless Intolerance","Not I","Undying","The Soldier's Song","The Science of Lies","Ribcage" and "Snap your fingers, snap your neck". This is metal! All growling lyrics, all deep, distorted cords, this is a great cd to workout to. Even the few light rock songs like "Thousand Apollogies" are awsome. This is a must cd for metal fans, of all variation. I'm 14 by the way, I just couldn't find my password.

Stephen Sondheim's Victorian horror thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is probably his most viscerally powerful score, realized to perfection by the original 1979 cast. Len Cariou plays the murderous title character with both menace and tragedy, while Angela Lansbury provides a grotesquely comic performance as Mrs. Lovett, his lover and partner in crime. At 73 minutes, this highlights CD is extremely generous but still omits over a half-hour from the complete recording. What's missing: the coloratura aria "Green Finch and Linnett Bird," the complete barber-contest sequence, the judge's flagellation number, much of the background of the show's central mystery, and a fair amount of connecting music. Yes, it's a good bargain, and it's convenient to have so much good music on a single CD, but any omission from this monumental score is one too many. If you're serious about Sweeney, spring for the two-disc set. --David Horiuchi

Lansbury and Cariou are royalty. Their musicanship and performances are special. Combined with Sondheim they're all impeccable. Chilling and VERY sophisticated music from Sondheim. It's one of his finest accomplishments. This will give you goosebumps for it's musical beauty and during it's most thrilling & scary moments. Own this.

Too scary .......2006-08-10

This broadway show is too scary and ominous such as an organ playing ominous music, then the organ starts screaming. It hurt my ears (I was using a pair of Sony Headphones), scared me and made me want to turn it off. How dreadful. I rather listen to something less scary than this.

Sondheims 2nd Masterpiece.......2006-07-22

An American classic, one of the greats, though I feel that Follies is Sondheims greatest acheivement, this is a close second. Saw a preview performance, then saw it again shortly after the opening. Several changes had been made, all for the better. The Flagellation Song had been removed, mercifully. It's been restored in subsequent productions, and always at the audiences discomfort. ?? Anyway, the original production was huge, in sets, performances and music, and it was grand in every sense of the word. Classic performances by Lansbury (one of maybe 3 of the great broadway actresses of all time) and Cariou.
As the other reviewers have already stated, this CD makes you want the complete recording. However, I enjoy this CD when I don't have the time or concentration to listen to the entire score.

Angela Lansbury is clearly the best Mrs. Lovett, her interpretation is on the dot. She is absolutely bone chilling. Len Cariou's strong baritone is thrilling and his portrayal of Todd is right on the dot. The only downer of this recording is the fact there is no Green Finch and Linnet Bird, a great modern aria sung by Johanna. This, in my oppinion, is Stephen Sondheim's best musical. The orchestration is one of Sondheim's most complex, his counterpoint is awe-inspiring. If you plan on getting this CD, don't. Get the complete original cast! You simply must hear it in its intirety.
