We call this our album of "Sunken Treasure" music. The track "South of the Border" especially helps the listener picture the original grandeur of the Spanish treasure fleet that sank 300 years ago. Thanks always to Tommy Garrett and the great musicians who have produced this great album.

I wish to order South of the Border Volume 1 and find it is out of stock.. when will you get more? I also note that the Silver Note Records is reissuing 50 guitars music and I sincerely hope that these are exact copies of the original recordings..I agree with the reviewers who complained about the absence of a some lovely songs, and having heard the old 8 track with the full original song list, would urge the record company to produce exact copies, but I don't know how to contact them!

We are fortunate that these Liberty Premier master tapes were well-preserved and lovingly remastered for CD. The original album on vinyl could easily be classified as a "gasser." (That described a recording that was technically and musically perfect.) Tommy "Snuff" Garrett created an orchestral guitar ensemble from the many types and styles of guitars. The tasteful arrangements on this recording take full advantage of the textures and "voices" of those many guitars. All of the cuts from the original album are there, at least on my copy. "La Bamba" and "Perfidia" are not listed on the CD insert, but they are tracks 9 and 10, respectively, making track 11 "South of the Border" and track 12 "Granada." (While RKO-Unique failed to list them, they are listed on the CDDB entry for this recording.) The only soloist credited is Laurindo Almeida. Other guitarists listed include Barney Kessel, Howard Roberts, Al Viola, Bob Bain, Tiny Timbrell, Bill Pitman, and Jose Barroso. After all these years, I wonder if exclusive contractual agreements of the time would still prevent the listing of other talented guitarist who helped on this recording. The original liner notes described this recording as "awesome." That description was accurate then, and remains so today.

I've been waiting for Tommy Garrett's music on CD format since the dawn of CD's. This is some of the most beutiful music ever recorded. The muscic fan in Boulder was correct in that this CD should have been copied just like the original LP and that we cannot wait for Tommy Garrett's entire collection to come out.(One more star would not be enough for his music!)

I agree with the other reviewers. Been trying to find Tommy Garretts stuff for a long time.It is like he simply dropped out of existence for awhile. I have many of his LP's. Would like to see "Border Bandido" album become available, as well as others.

Yep-this is a dream come true! I have EVERYONE of Snuff's 50 Guitars LP's and wore them right thru the grooves! Now, we are finally blessed with his superb, dreamy arrangements on CD. Come-on, keep reissuing each and everyone on CD. This music really blew my mind back in the early 60's - MAN, it's still FRESH sounding TODAY! YeeeHaaaa!

There is a God. Finally we have some Snuff Garrett. His music is beyond the elevator dreams. I have called his music the "soundtrack of my life" for nearly 2 decades. If you ever buy on an urge do so now. If you decide you don't like it I'll buy it from you and give it to a freind.Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. Create a demand for more of his dozens of albums not yet released on CD. They wouldn't let me add another star.

I first found Savocha on the Being Driftless CD. A tribute to Greg Brown (folk songwriter/singer) featuring various known and unknown women singing Brown's songs. One of the last 3 (the last 3 are my favorites) was Savocha doing Two Little Feet. That led to me finding this CD on her website. I have owned it and loved it for a couple of years. Friends have enjoyed it and like me, wonder why she remains unknown.
I have picked up the rest of her available cds also. In my opinion, this one is her best to date. It has the most consistant writing and performances. Though the others have many high points as well.
Savocha's voice is a marvel. Deeply emotive, with an edgy rasp, which she uses to concoct the overtones (simultaneous multitones) mentioned by another reviewer.
Pete's multiple guitar layers, drive the songs with a vast array of rhythmns and a wide ranging palette of tones.
I only give it 4 of 5 stars, because I think that 5 stars should only apply to truly classic all time recordings. Otherwise the rating system loses all meaning.

What these two have come up with is of excellent quality all the way around. That they have managed it independantly, with what must be a small budget is most impressive.

They desreve an audience. You deserve to be a part of it. Do everyone a favor. Buy it and play it for your friends.

This is a fabulous album by a very talented husband and wife pair. To my knowldege it has not previously been available on-line and getting copies of their home-based work required some leg-work (either shopping or festival hopping). Anyone who has seen Pete and Karen perform will agree that they are a force of nature--Pete with his mastery of the guitar "wall of sound" and Karen with her hand percussion and overtone-capable voice (with which she will sometimes make chords of two or three notes). They will literally fill the room and enchant the audience. With this CD the room they will fill can be your living room! This is one of my favorite CDs that gets a lot of play. (I'm only looking it up here now because I'm daydreaming at work and needed to consult a track list for a video project I'm doing at home.)
