Editorial Reviews Alec Rowley (1891- 1958) was active as a composer during a period in music when tunefulness and grace was going out of fashion. By the mid-1950s, Rowley was lamenting the demise of romantic beauty. He felt that the emerging astringent and more cerebral style was taking the place of the heart and the emotions. As a result, his engaging music was sometimes written off during his lifetime as "gracefully unpretentious," and he became better known for his educational music than his substantial output of other work. Rowley firmly believed that more "serious light music" was really needed, music that uplifted its audience, and which people could understand and enjoy. Rowley's interests were eclectic, and he drew inspiration from both his vast knowledge of poetry and literature, and his deep love of the English and French countrysides. Above all, Rowley had an overriding love of children and simplicity. Writing intimate music was his favored mode, music in which every note and nuance is essential for its delicate shading. He sought to balance contemporary trends by directing his students towards music of quiet beauty and works by lesser-known composers, exhorting them not to be dismissive of works with charm and lightness. Rowley's muse is ageless, and repeated hearings will enhance rather than diminish his music's appeal. Freedom from sentimentality, impeccable workmanship, and refinement and simplicity of outlook define the work of this outstanding composer whose sole aim was to perpetuate beauty.

The music is all miniatures. But within those small frames, Rowley created real beauty.

Téka uses the term New Bossa to describe her music. Sophisticated as bossa nova and yet incorporating a more contemporary taste to it in her own unique way; a mix of undulating bossa nova and American jazz. Her music has become an interesting combination of the sensual rhythms of Brazil and jazz.Customer Reviews:

This recording is an absolute delight.
We are lucky to have people who are willing to reach out to the lesser known composers and bring freshness and vitality to the classical music scene.
A gem.
