From the Artist
The composition of these works served a multi-fold purpose: self-expression, the search for beauty, relief from pain. Music can elevate one from the depths of despair back to normalcy, or, if one begins at normalcy, to the heavens above. From various starting points, I have endeavored to lift myself, and hopefully the listener, to new levels, using the beauty of chords and harmonic progressions as my medium. Though classical performance technique is employed throughout, stylistically the majority of the pieces employ a jazz idiom and harmonic vocabulary. Nonetheless, several works do have a decidedly more ‘classical’ feel, or are possessed of a drive and verve which is typical of Brazilian guitar music at its best. Many present a panorama of moods and cascade through auras as if inviting one to take part in a journey.

Some pieces carry on from where others left off, while some may share a similar chord progression or feel before developing in different directions. Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” often came to mind while composing. Whereas Frost had to make a choice, following one path and leaving the other forever unexplored, if I in a given piece had to choose from distinct possible developments, upon its completion I was able to return to the point in the road where I had to commit to one direction, then follow my ideas to an entirely different destination in a subsequent piece. Perhaps keeping this in mind one could produce a roadmap of a composer’s world.

About the Artist
Richard A. Del Pizzo is a composer and nylon-string guitarist.

Over his 25 years of playing, he has explored many musical styles and has studied both guitar and musical composition with various teachers. On his first CD, entitled "The Age of Lost Kisses", he has composed modern romantic guitar music which seamlessly melds classical and jazz ideas while incorporating Brazilian and Italian influences.

    Full Title - The Columbia Albums Of Irving Berlin Vols. 1 & 2. Composer, conductor, arranger Frank DeVol scored more than fifty movies and is best known as the composer for the theme songs for the TV series 'My Three Sons', 'The Brady Bunch' and 'Family Affair'. In the 1940s DeVol was an arranger for Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Rudy Vallee, Vic Damone and Doris Day. Frank DeVol received multiple Emmy Awards and Academy Award nominations for his extensive body of work. Irving Berlin's medleys featured are 'Always/Remember', 'A Pretty Girl/Isn't It A Lovely Day' and 'Say It With Music/Cheek To Cheek'. 24 tracks. Collectables 2003.

    The original music contained in this CD by Richard A. DelPizzo must be heard!!! I have been listening to the music in this CD for almost three months now and I am very deeply moved by the music. The compositions are soul-touching and appears to come from deep down the heart of the composer. All the compositions are brilliant and deserve a wide hearing. The composer's intricate knowledge of the classical and jazz guitaring styles are very much evident from the the pieces. The songs in the CD have been composed with deep meanings and have been very well rendered. I would recommend this CD for all lovers of music and this would certainly be a moving experience. To sum up - the CD is not just music but an experience. An experience that deserves a wide hearing. My best wishes for the talented composer and my only hope is that we receive more of his music.

    Dem Komponisten kann ich nur gratulieren: es ist ihm gelungen, einen eigenständigen Stil zu präsentieren, der gefällt. Diese Musik verlässt die ausgetrampelten Pfade der Gitarrenmusik und garantiert ein spannendes Musikerlebnis. Gleichzeitig sind die Musikstücke harmonisch und wirken auf mich entspannend. Kurzum, eine CD, die ich nicht mehr missen möchte.

    This is a superb collection of refreshingly original pieces for the nylon string guitar. The composer has skillfully combined the best elements of classical, jazz and Brazilian music into a beautiful new idiom of his own. There is a lot of technically difficult material in this CD, but it is clear that the composer sees it only as a means to the end of composing good music, and not as an end in itself.

    The composer has played the pieces himself, and deserves many bravos for his effortless and sensual playing. He evidently has formidable technique but wears it lightly.

    It is a wonderful debut for Richard A. Delpizzo and I hope we see many more CD's from him.

    This is an excellent CD! If you like Brazilian guitar music, or other jazz/classical guitar, you should check out this CD -- the first available from Richard Del Pizzo. Very nice to listen to, with beautiful chords, fingerings and all original compositions in varied styles.
