We purchased this CD a little while back. The enjoyment is has afforded us since then has made it a constant companion. It is always handy, and often playing in the evenings.

This is NOW the album that is running thru my mind. I love it, such a unique blending of instruments. It sometimes has the feel of new age music, (of course, it was) very haunting and ethereal. Quatuor #2 in A Minor VI coulant....wow, I play this over and over. I now love Teleman and am looking for more. If you like something different try this!

I was afraid the harpsichord would get in the way of the strings, but no it doesn't. And the flute is wonderful.

During their respective lifetimes Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach were at one point considered for the same musical post. Those in charge selected Telemann, which does not speak well for the concept of search committees in general. However, it is easy to hear from this CD, which presents some of the former's most successful (during his lifetime) chamber works, the so-called "Paris" Quartets, why contemporary musicians might have preferred Telemann's music. These works, for combined solo string and wind instruments and continuo, are in several movements, always carefully crafted, melodious, and utterly easy on the ear. The variations that conclude the A minor quartet are a good representation of Telemann's elegant style. All of the suites are superbly played here by a group of musicians that includes the estimable Baroque violinist Monica Huggett.

Those prepared to make finer distinctions among the wealth of eighteenth-century music may find a double CDs worth of Telemann a wee bit soporific, lacking the bracing vigor and drive of the best of Handel or the chromatic passion and superb intellect of Bach. Nevertheless, for those in search of the best possible performances of these agreeable pieces, they've come to the right place.

Crisp and clean and seductively laid back is this nice collection of 31 pieces from the composer likes of Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Debussy, Telemann, et al, performed by the greatest flutists in the world such as Bennett, Galway, and Rampal.

Especially enjoying the Concerto in G by Vivaldi with harpsichord.

    This is one of only two complete recordings of Telemann's Paris Quartets available as a single set, and is much superior to the old Bruggen set. The Kuijkens are all very stylish and engaging performers, and they play these works very well.

    Telemann wrote a lot of very good chamber music, but these quartets show him at his best. They are full of wonderful melodies, and some amazing rhythmic quirks. If Telemann had not been so prolific, these works would be considered absolute masterpieces on the order of the Brandenburg Concertos of Bach. They are that good.

    This is by far the best recording of these Quartets. The Kujiken brothers are skilled players of their instruments -- a great achievement for self-taught musicians. Their version of these works of Telemann is fulfilled with virtuosity and panache, doing justice for the technically demanding scores. But there's more than just technique. You will find here real music. Don't miss this album!

    This is a surprisingly wonderful collection. My only complaint might be that there's TOO MUCH of it, if that's possible. Not knowing much about Telemann, and expecting little from the venerable Kuijkens and Mr. Leonhardt, I found instead some very well considered, beautiful performances of immediately accesible and enjoyable baroque compositions. The recording is deep and lush and the playing is spot-on precise as well as emotive. These performers have aged well and this collection is the proof.

      i honestly don't know why i bought this cd. but there is a great deal to love about it. the main thing i love is the first suite, which is highlighted by an arrangement of his 'elegy for strings' for piano trio.

      the second surprise is the witty set of variations on 'auld lang syne'.

      the third is the price--very affordable and not a disappointment.

      The violinist on this recording really is supurb. You have entered the world of a pro that feels his music, commits to the era it was written for,and understands the composers emotions. The Four Scenes of Childhood express a special sentiment. What a treat to hear the first of its recording.

        This is a masterful, silky performance of this selection of quartets which slips by so easily that it takes a few listens to realize how really good they are. The playing seems just effortless, and the chiming sounds of the recorder at the start are amazing. The selection of instruments used also gives this a pleasantly rounded sound.
        I have quite a bit of Teleman, but the Paris quartets stand out for me, and although I like all three volumes in this series of the quartets by Florilegium, this is my favourite. Quite stunning.

        Even though I recieved this CD after Christmas, I've enjoyed the music more than most of my recent purchases. There are only a couple of selections that would be considered Christmas carols, but even those, along with the others, are some of the loveliest music you could hope to find. Relaxing and uplifting at the same time. I'll be playing this all year round.

        While not all of the music presented on this CD is what one would consider "traditional" Christmas fare, I happen to find this a refreshing mix of recognized Christmas favorites tossed in with a wonderful rendition of great classical favorites. This pairing makes for a delightful classical Christmas CD which is both contemplative yet stirring. It happens to be the favorite Holiday CD in my collection. In fact, when Christmas is over, I hate to put it away!

          Product Description

          The Utah Saxophone Quartet was formed at Brigham Young University in 1983 to be an exemplary ensemble for BYU saxophone students and to provide a performance outlet for the members involved. When Ray Smith was hired to teach saxophone at BYU in 1982, it was his dream to bring the fine art of saxophone quartet performance to Utah. The Utah Saxophone Quartet has been a pioneering ensemble since that time. The current personnel has been stable since about 1985, and all the members of the quartet are BYU School of Music alumni. In fact, they have been friends since high school and have studied with several common teachers, including Steve Allen and David Randall, former director of the BYU School of Music. The quartet has always used the French saxophone quartet instrumentation with Ray Smith on soprano, Daron Bradford on alto, David Feller on tenor, and Gaylen Smith on baritone. All of the members of the ensemble double on multiple woodwinds, and the quartet will often add clarinet quartets, flute quartets, or mixed woodwind quartets to concert programs. This album includes four clarinet quartets in addition to the saxophone offerings. Each member of the quartet is extensively active in the Utah recording scene, and all are mainstays in the Utah performance arena. This project has been a labor of love and has brought to recorded history many of the pieces that have thrilled live audiences for the past two decades.
