very clear and thorough.......2007-01-11
It was very clear and thorough. It is a pretty guide review for the Clep exam, but you will need to study Principles of Accounting II also for the Principles of Accounting CLEP.
Great "Nuts and Bolts" Book.......2005-11-23
If a company is going to buy assets to turn a profit, it has to first get capital from somewhere, right? And in the course of making sales and providing services, it needs to literally account for the use of that capital. Lerner and Cashin make readers comfortable working with major sources of capital in an easy to understand way.
Chapters 3 through 8 are the heart and soul of the book. They explore common stock issuance, subscriptions and treasury stock, retained earnings and bonds. By doing the "Solved Problems" and chapter-end exercises, I came to a much better understanding of accounting mechanics pertaining to capital concerns.
The book is also very valuable for those seeking to better understand manufacturing accounting, cost systems and budgets, as well as financial statement analysis.
Consistently clear, the authors do an excellent job in helping those interested in accounting better understand the subject matter. They helped me - I hope you benefit too!
Review principles of accounting II.......2005-09-14
The delivery was good. The condition of the book was good (new book). I would not hasate to buy another book in the future.

Book Description
Exciting and elegantly written, Dissolution is an utterly compelling first novel and a riveting portrayal of Tudor England. The year is 1537, and the country is divided between those faithful to the Catholic Church and those loyal to the king and the newly established Church of England. When a royal commissioner is brutally murdered in a monastery on the south coast of England, Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII's feared vicar general, summons fellow reformer Matthew Shardlake to lead the inquiry. Shardlake and his young protégé uncover evidence of sexual misconduct, embezzlement, and treason, and when two other murders are revealed, they must move quickly to prevent the killer from striking again.
Customer Reviews:
The Larger Dissolution.......2007-06-27
Until I read this intriguing mystery, I just assumed that Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries was a pure power grab by an insensitive, greedy monarch. While that perception remains somewhat true, the novel allows us to see all of the paradoxes present, and to experience much of the ambiguity of those times. Matthew Shardlake is an altogether likable and convincing sleuth and person of principal. The late 1530s in England came alive with such color and immediacy that I then went on to read the next two equally well presented mysteries in this series by C. J. Sansom.
An Evocative Look at a Turbulent Era.......2007-06-27
C.J. Sampson has obviously done his research on Tudor England, and his readers will reap the benefits. For those of you used to the sort of Boy's Adventure Story historical fiction by authors such as Bernard Cornwell, this novel should be a welcome chance to use your head and to soak in an atmosphere containing equal parts grandeur and squalor, piety and brutality. The ancient stones of the sinister monastery in its bleak and forbidding landscape will seem to close about you as the cunningly crafted mystery reaches its denouement. If you never thought you'd find yourself rooting for a lawyer before, Matthew Shardlake will not only change your outlook, but will make you forget every bad John Grisham novel you've had the misfortune to read. This is a book that will stay with you for a long time indeed.
Murder in a Monastery.......2007-06-23
Dissolution is a murder mystery that takes place in a Benedictine monastery located on the south coast of England, only a marsh away from the English Channel.
The time was about one year after Henry VII took the head of Queen Anne Boleyn on a trumpeted up charge of adultery arranged by the evil Thomas Cromwell.
The story is told in the first person by Dr. Matthew Shardlake, a lawyer appointed King's Commissioner by Lord Cromwell to investigate the murder of a Commissioner sent to the monastery to expedite the surrender of the monastery to the profit of King Henry. Although the story is fiction, the historical context stays close to actual history.
The story is well-told and the painting of the scenes is well-done.
The book is a good detective story told in authentic historical context.
Detective Story set in 1537.......2007-05-24
Mathew Shardlake is a lawyer/detective in King Henry's England. The story is a crime novel written in the English of today. It is easy to read and lovely to see what it was like in the non royal life of the general public. His written English is excellent and he is obviously very knowledgeable about that era.
I am on to my third novel by this gent and am hoping he will quickly write more! Great book.
A-M-A-ZING..........2007-05-21
Within the realms of England, during the times of the Reformation, corruption, deceit and murder have taken place. During the reign of terror, Catholics must denounce the pope or face the punishment from the Tower of London. The monasteries of England have been tainted as corrupted and full of fraud in which Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell are slowing trying to diminish the gossip. Matthew Shardlake an intelligent, witty and an astute hunchback has been called into solve a murder mystery of a commissioner who's head had been cut off. Bringing along his accomplice Mark Poer, Shardlake begins numbers searches and investigations within the murder site. Meeting many new, uncanny people the suspect list grows furiously as time ticks against continuously as more murders are committed. Uncovering secret pathways as well as getting dangerously closer in getting murdered themselves, this novel not only brings in suspense and spine-tingling emotions but incorporates the Christian religion and protecting ones faith. With Shardlake constantly being confronted by the deceit in the government as well as putting his faith into test, he endures not only stress and agony but hindrance and doubt. With his accomplice distracted by an attractive woman, leaves Shardlake on his own. As poison, murder of young girls and many puzzling events arouse, Shardlake slowly begins to tie the knots down. Remarkably tying in historical facts and murder mysteries Sansom is an astonishing writer, a page-turner to historical events. He captures the eyes of his readers through constant cravings as if a child. He pulls the attention into the once boring historical content into a hunger to read, a desire to know and uncover the murderer. (AY)

Book Description
Attorneys seldom charge less than $2,000 even for a simple divorce, and the rates can skyrocket from there. This complete guide does all that an attorney does and more for $29.95. Newly updated, How to Do Your Own Divorce in California covers everything a Californian needs to know about filing for divorce. Part one details how property can be divided and how to settle issues of custody, visitation and child support. Part two explains the court process step by step how to complete each of the forms and file them with the court clerk; when to file each form; the waiting periods to expect between steps; and how to get through the court appearance or even avoid a court appearance altogether. Blank tear-out copies of all the court forms needed for an uncontested dissolution are included, along with a CD-ROM containing many resources including forms, worksheets, and a trial version of CalSupport software.

You can do it all with this valuable title.......2007-04-05
Nolo Press was founded in 1971 specifically for the purpose of publishing the first edition of this title. The Nolo principle is that not all legal transactions require retention of a lawyer, and in the state of California, for an uncontested divorce between two parties, tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees can be saved with the purchase of this $30 title (which is regularly 30% off from Amazon).
This book is a step-by-step guide to the divorce process and each of the forms necessary for filing for divorce in California. The text explains the hows and whys of the filing process and warns of potential pitfalls that can cause filings to be rejected or invalidated in the future.
My husband and I separated after a two year marriage and worked amicably through the process with the aid of this book. We knew that we would save a bundle of money by avoiding hiring lawyers to do discovery on our behalf, and we wanted to split up our property and move on as painlessly as possible. We each purchased a copy of this book and used it to file all the forms in our county courthouse. There is a helpline for telephone consultations at a reasonable rate, and we spent a few hundred dollars to get advice on the Separation Agreement we had drafted together (detailing financial and personal property separation as well as our agreement on our joint mortgage). We got big bang for our buck by having a helpline lawyer personally go over our Separation Agreement and we were confident with filing all the paperwork ourselves.
This book is intended for unconstested, fairly amicable divorces. If one party is out to "get" the other, the services of a lawyer may be required. Nolo recommends mediation before litigation if at all possible, to save money and effort. The authors remind the reader that lawyers do not have the consumer's best interest at heart--their first priority is to protect themselves from malpractice lawsuits, and so they will be as thorough (and costly) as possible to meet that need.
If you are considering leaving your spouse and do not anticipate an amicable divorce, I would recommend purchasing Nolo's Essential Guide to Divorce instead of this book. That has all of the overview information of this title, with additional specifics on mediation and litigation that will help your case if it is going to be in those arenas instead of the do-it-yourself category.
Legal issues in plain English.......2007-01-05
This text is very easy to comprehend and provides everything you need to do-it-yourself.
Very helpful book.......2006-07-06
I used this book years ago for my own divorce and got the new edition to help a friend. Very easy to follow and helpful suggestions.

Customer Reviews:
Drow intrigue I've been looking for.......2007-06-06
To me this was a very enjoyable book. When I was reading the first Drizzt series, what I definitely wanted more of was the scheming of Mennzoberranzann. This book delivered. Best of all you don't get the all powerful clerics just raining down from above or scheming behind the scenes on some plot to up their position. This book / series puts them in an entirely different predicament and it was thoroughly enjoyable to read. What happens is the lessor players (ie the males) are put into a much more prominent position.
The characters are thoroughly drow too. All of them have their own agendas, their own plans, and look to see how any situation can improve their position. I'm not sure who was my favorite. Phaurun is a lot of fun, but I became attached to Ryld as well. That was one thing that this book did very well - character development. You learn about the characters and their histories. Where they came from and what they think about their current status.
If you are into the drow, or like the Drizzt novels, you'd like this book. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see how this plot turns out and what happens to these characters.
An excellent book for all Drow lovers!.......2007-05-27
After reading all of Salvatore's books on the Drow, I was thoroughly enchanted by them. This book and the others after it were a godsend. The characters are great, the plot enticing, and it's about the Drow! Malicious and devious, this book and all five after it are excellent.
About what some of the people said about this first one, though. They are correct in some respect about the writing. Byers does go a bit overboard with the level of language used. Still, though, the book is good enough in and of itself to justify five stars here. An excellent novel.
Sorry, wanted to like it, story okay, writing worse.......2007-05-17
Picked this up because I wanted to see what another author would do with the Drow. Well, while Im only half way though the book I am completely underwhelmed.
The writing is terrible, simply everything you're not supposed to do when telling a story. The author does an awful job bringing the city and its characters to life, everything is 'told', nothing is 'shown'. The whole story is written as if the drow are fascinated with themselves, as if its all new and unknown even to them. You do not get steeped in Menzoberranzan and feel it come to life, its rather like reading an infomercial or something. Amateurish and hacky.
And I would also like to reiterate what other reviewers have mentioned-- the language. Some of the word choices are just ludicrous in this type of story. Too highbrow, like the author's trying to show he knows dem big words. Find better words. You know, that suit the novel, the intended audience, the century we live in maybe. The second thing budding authors learn (after 'dont tell, show') is dont try to write over your audiences head, it doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like you write with a thesaurus at your side. And thats not good. There is an art to writing, its not easy and takes tremendous thought, and its not for everyone. My hope is that as I press through this and the 2 after (I bought the 3 book set) that the author will warm up to his subject matter a bit, stop telling, start showing, allow his characters to emote through their actions rather than vice-versa, and tone down the lofty lingo that stands out like a sore thumb here.
IMHO the only way one could enjoy this writer's style is if you simply don't know any better.
I truly wonder what RA's involvement could have been as I find it hard to believe he or the editors at WoC couldnt rework this mess into something worthwhile. Then again, maybe they did and this is it. Sad.
A great beginning to the series that starts slow, but finishes strong.......2007-02-18
After having read and enjoyed much of R.A. Salvatores work based in the underdark, I went into this with knowledge of the setting and a strong opinion of how it should be represented. Overall, I think Byers did a good job and showed Menzoberranzan some justice. Although I do prefer Salvatores presentation of the drow mindset and chaotic way of life, Byers definitely gave it a good run.
First off, i'd like to mention that Byers writing style, while strong and focused, is somewhat to cerebral like. He tends to write more logically than artistcally and uses very uncommon words that will leave you pondering the meaning. You'll only have context clues to go on, unless you have a dictionary handy. It isnt necessarily a bad writing style, different from what im used to in the Forgotten Realms setting. I would say its night and day from probably someone like Ed Greenwoods style.
I felt the book started off with a somewhat rocky and uncompelling flow, that didnt really keep me turning pages. Fortunately that changed pretty quick, as about 1/3 of the way in, Byers seemed to get warmed up with a much smoother overall feel. Soon enough I was drawn into the story, and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I really did enjoy the typical drow plotting and scheming, and I think Byers did a good job of illustrating that. Pharaun Mizzrym is a great main character and I really like how he was written. I am eager to get on with the rest of the series and see just where this chaos leads next!
It is somewhat a shame that given the setting of Menzoberranzan with Bregan D'aerthe involved, we never hear mention of Jarlaxle. Might have something to do with character legalities, im not sure. Anyway though, I think this book is a strong start to the series and I would recommend it, especially to fans of the underdark and Salvatores world of drow!
Magic, Malice in the underdark.......2006-09-28
Phauron is a dark elf or (drow), living in the female dominated society of Menzoberranzan. Accompanied by his swordmaster sidekick Ryld, he struggles to complete an impossible quest while he is hunted by his evil sister and her minions.
I don't normally enjoy novels with evil protagonists, I found dissolution to be an enjoyable read. While Phauron is certainly a product of his society he isn't intentionally cruel or spiteful and his escapades certainly are entertaining. It is also nice to see drow society fleshed out - although, to be honest with how elves reproduce and how many drow are killed routinely in drow society I am skeptical that this race would survive as a species. Also the lack of love and romance is a little difficult to believe. Even if drow squelch these impulses they are still elves and not vulcans.
I look forward to reading the next one in the series. 4 stars. Very entertaining if a trifle implausible.

Book Description
Since the creation of Israel, during both wartime and peacetime, many Arab coalitions have formed. Every one of these anti-Israel coalitions has failed to achieve its goals due to the defection of one or more major parties. Kober explores the forces behind the dissemination of these alliances to determine why Arab states chose defection; whether or not a distinction can be made between defection patterns in times of war and patterns related to peace processes; and possible explanations for different behavior patterns. The multi-polar structure of the Arab subsystem, the decisions of pivotal members, and the negative reputations earned by such coalitions have always made defection an easy alternative. The choice to defect was, Kober contends, nurtured by a sense of military weakness and by the priority that coalition members attached to their particular interests over general Arab concerns. Kober finds that defection in time of war has arisen mainly through evasion-passive avoidance of coalition obligations with the hope of escaping or minimizing expected losses. Defection from military coalitions often deprived the defector of maximizing gains, all the while weakening the remaining coalition members. However, defection during the peace process served not only to optimize the defector's utilities, but eventually proved beneficial for the parties left behind. Kober determines that the peace process, mainly due to superpower involvement, transformed the scenario from a zero-sum to a non-zero-sum game, by rewarding the parties for signing treaties with Israel. Also, the first defectors, such as Egypt, established pay-off precedents, creating the foundation for future negotiations between the Arab players and Israel.

Book Description
"The very notion of the domination of nature by man stems from the very real domination of human by human." With this succinct formulation, Murray Bookchin launches his most ambitious work, The Ecology of Freedom. An engaging and extremely readable book of breathtaking scope, its inspired synthesis of ecology, anthropology and political theory traces our conflicting legacies of hierarchy and freedom from the first emergence of human culture to today's globalized capitalism, constantly pointing the way to a sane, sustainable ecological future.
Murray Bookchin, cofounder of the Institute for Social Ecology, has been an active voice in the ecology and anarchist movements for more than 40 years. The author of numerous books and articles, he lives in Burlington, Vermont.
Customer Reviews:
Bookchin's most important book!.......2007-04-04
Combining radical political theory with anthropology and nature studies, "The Ecology of Freedom" is a profound exploration of the social causes behind our ecological crisis. Importantly, Bookchin argues for social activism rather than New Age mysticism as the answer to environmental problems. According to Bookchin and other social ecologists like Cindy Milstein and Brian Tokar, the domination of the planet is a mere reflection of the domination of humans caused by social systems like gerontocracy, patriarchy, capitalism, and the state. His solution: the building of a directly democratic, anti-authoritarian, participatory, egalitarian, green society. While critics of Bookchin's work may dislike the fact that he oftentimes prioritizes things like permaculture and appropriate technology over wilderness and wildlife, I nevertheless believe that his writings have enormous social value and I am deeply grateful for his ideas and legacy. Though I no doubt understand the urgency of preserving forest ecosystems and protecting endangered species, I also really empathize with Bookchin's ecotopian vision of sustainable cities. In truth, I feel that the urban ecology/forest ecology binary is a false one that should be challenged. While defending the Amazon is obviously important, fighting environmental racism is also imperative. Though I cherish the spotted owl, I also cherish working-class communities of color and equally value their struggles to access organic food, clean air, and safe drinking water. As such, I fully agree with the social ecologist libertarian municipalist position that social justice issues are environmental issues and vice versa. Murray Bookchin, who last year passed away, will be sorely missed by the many progressive activists whose lives have been enriched by his brilliant books. That said, I hope that AK Press continues to publish more of his important work.
One of the best and most important works by the perhaps the greatest radical mind of our time.......2006-09-15
Bookchin's 'The Ecology of Freedom,' is a masterpiece pure and (not at all) simple. If you are interested in the real roots of the ecological and social crises we as a planet are submerged in, than this is a book whose ideas you will want to read and debate.
Combine this work with his other pivotal works and the invaluable commentary provided by Bookchin's long time colleague and companion Janet Biehl and you have what is very liklely the most important and comprehensive body of radical social theory since Marx -- fortunately with none of Marx's blindspots, shortsightedness, or problems. A real treasure and filled with fascinating and challenging ideas.

Book Description
This book provides a critical examination of and reflection on the American Law Institute's (ALI) Principles of the Law of Family Dissolution: Analysis and Recommendations ('Principles', arguably the most sweeping proposal for family law reform attempted in the U.S. over the last quarter century. The volume is a collaborative work of individuals from diverse perspectives and disciplines who explore the fundamental questions about the nature of family, parenthood, and child support. The contributors are all recognized authorities on aspects of family law and provide commentary on the principles examined by the ALI - fault, custody, child support, property division, spousal support, and domestic partnerships, utilizing a wide range of analytical tools, including economic theory, constitutional law, social science data, and linguistic analysis. This volume also includes the perspectives of U.S. judges and legislators and leading family law scholars in the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada and Australia.

Customer Reviews:
Detailed but largely unsatisfying analysis.......2001-03-05
Although very dated at this point, with no consideration given to the crucial 1995 military operations in Croatia and then Bosnia and the ensuing Dayton Accords in a revised and updated edition, "Balkan Tragedy" is still a somewhat useful source because it provides considerable in-depth analysis of the underlying economic and structural causes of Yugoslavia's break-up. Woodward also tries to broaden the scope of her analysis to consider the ways in which the wider international context influenced events in the former Yugoslavia and even fomented their intensification. However, while this approach does clarify many events that occurred after the wars in Croatia and Bosnia had already begun, Woodward does not quite succeed in providing completely credible explanations for the actual origins of the Yugoslav crisis. Despite the hefty text, extensive research and copious footnotes, one can't escape the feeling that Woodward's approach is at times piecemeal (to paraphrase her former boss, the tragicomical Yasushi Akashi), primarily when dealing with the international players (from the IMF to the EU and U.S. State Department) who she insists bear a great deal of the responsibility for the Yugoslav tragedy. For while she often provides detailed explanations of the political and economic factors and pressures at play within the former Yugoslavia and their impact on decision-making and political events (which often seems to exonerate the various Yugoslav leaders of their culpability for concrete abuses of power and war crimes), she does not similarly analyze the economic/structural aspects and motivations guiding the foreign policies of the various outside powers which could have and eventually did influence Yugoslav events - even though her approach would seem to demand such consideration. Regardless of the degree of complicity of international players in the Yugoslav tragedy (and it was great), the prime responsibility for the political breakdown and course of Yugoslavia's dissolution lies with the various post-Yugoslav leaders (some more than others). After all, they made the decisions on how to respond to and/or manipulate international (primarily economic) pressures and domestic (often nationalistic) tensions, and this is not made sufficiently clear in Woodward's book.
A medicinal pill for the effortlessly righteous.......1999-12-16
The book sometimes hides its thesis behind detail, and is not easy to follow. It was finished for the press before the Croat offensive of Spring 1995, and loses some perspective in consequence. Hence only four stars! It is very thoroughly researched (not just full of footnotes), and it is one of the very few books on the Bosnian war which doesn't simply pick heroes and villains - which has, of course, led to it being denounced as pro-Serb. Woodward's main line is that the basis of conflict was 'the economy, stupid'. Successive blunders in the terms of IMF loans, and misjudged changes in the federal constitution, set the constituent republics against each other. Misunderstanding of the issues (and German/Austrian favouritism to Balkan clients) led the European powers into grossly unprincipled and utopian interventions. The federation was levered apart, while preserving intact the constituent republics. This was a 'solution' to the wrong set of problems. The United States, continually encouraging the Bosnian Muslims to wait for the NATO fairy to rescue them (it didn't), completed the sorry work of war-making - though this last element is better documented elsewhere (e.g. in Rose's _Fighting for Peace_). I don't agree with all of the author's opinions. In particular, I think national allegiances run deeper and history is more relevant than she wants to believe. But it is a serious attempt to rescue this piece of contemporary history from self-indulgent moral one-upmanship and propaganda saturation. If only Woodward could write as well as Ivo Banac!
Excellent, balanced, scholarly analysis of the Balkan wars.......1999-10-27
Excellent, balanced, credible and more importantly- SCHOLARLY analysis of the Balkan conflicts. Woodward's in-depth study blows away the simplistic answers other writers have offered to solving the extremely complex problems in the region. A good critique of current US foreign policy in the former Yugoslavia. Can't wait for her next book!
Lots of good information, poorly presented........1999-10-22
I read this book at the recommendation of a Yugoslav friend who says he agrees with 95% of what the author says, as opposed to agreeing with only about 5% of most other books on the subject. I'm glad I read the book-- she gives you loads of good data-- but she has a lousy writing style and manages to make a fascinating subject pretty dull. You have to be really determined to learn about Yugoslavia, or you won't make it through the book. Also, don't try it unless you already have a good basic grasp of the area's history and the general outline of events in past ten years or so.
No Thesis.......1999-05-13
A book with no thesis that fails to offer any new insight into the Balkan War.

Book Description
Reading this book will help answer the questions: What is love? Who will fall in love and who will not? Why will some love relationships endure and not others? How can one evaluate and improve a love relationship? Why does one love relationship dissolve more easily than another? How should one handle love dissolution problems? This is the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art work on the measurement of love. It includes descriptions of a theoretical paradigm and two love models, a common mythological framework for theory development and evaluation, an introduction to over 40 theories for love development, maintenance, and dissolution, the integration of research principles and strategies, the compilation of 26 popularly used scales, and illustrations of three empirical research programs in measuring love and intimate relations. The compilation of scales provides information on purpose, function, constructs, psychometric properties, subject response formats, and actual measurement items. This book complements Tzeng's most recent work, Theories of Love Development, Maintenance, and Dissolution.
