A real person tangled up in an unreal world.......2001-12-30
A must-read. This clever and entertaining book is based on an intriguing premise -- is it possible to obliterate someone's identity to such an extent that it impacts his life? Jack Lowenberg sets out to find out.
Battered but still optimistic after his divorce at 50, we follow Jack into Upper East Side relationships -- and out west where he finds his true love, Beth -- and becomes the Magician, the world's first cyber-murderer. As the plot progresses and the stakes get higher, Jack's wry sense of humor keeps us grounded as revenge turns out to have some deadly consequences.
Saul's style is down-to-earth and very readable. Jack is every man, a real guy caught in an unreal world, trying to come to grips with it and somehow come out ahead. After brushes with death and dangerous characters, Jack finds his way back to some very real values and real love.
Two thumbs up!.......2000-08-28
The exciting novel "Unfinished Business" was a highlight of my summer! As a boomer myself, I identified so much with the hero of the story -- reaching a crossroads, reflecting on good (and not-so-good!) past choices, making decisions about the rest of his life. The plot is so believable, and the characters so real, I forgot I was reading fiction! I really enjoyed the action that was interspersed with the character development. This would make a super movie.
I also really enjoyed the realistic and informative descriptions of cyber-space and how it is changing the way we live and work and relate to each other. Though an "easy read" and very entertaining, the author's Tom Clancy-type style is also obviously very well researched and fact-based.
If you're looking for all around entertainment and an action-packed book with strong romantic overtones, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did!
