Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Provocative, appealing and controversial.......2006-08-02

Fomenko has succeeded to convincingly demonstrate the misconception about what "history" factually is... It is fiction and -like we can read and judge for ourselves- no science. It indeed is "make belief" only. I "discovered" Fomenko while studying the "old" history of Al Andaluz, Spain. Having found too many contradictions in available data, having seen too many forgeries as to pretend the importance of christianity for its decline, I ventured out to find Fomenko, who convinced me that we know little if anything for sure of the epoch before the XI-century. However, the integration of the Arabic-Islamic cultural history into the heavily distorted Western fails... There are some attempts to fit "the budding new religion" (Islam) into Fomenko's scheme, but they are too weak to be taken seriously and too often focussing on Turkey as the region where things started to influence the West, which is untrue at all.
Islam certainly was no "new religion" in the X-century. That the highly cultivated Al Andaluz ruler Mohammed-I could have been "mirrored" down in time into some myth about the "illiterate" founder of Islam itself is highly speculative. Nevertheless, Fomenko convinces me about the processes that were involved in forging a christian history. Intriguing and controversial as his books are, I recommend them as to rethink our current position in time and space and simply verify what was claimed. It is a "good" book, but not for bedtime reading... Mundus vult decipi, the world wants to be cheated. Fomenko's readers will understand why.

5 out of 5 stars pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.......2006-02-16

Traces of white wine were found in Tutankhamen's tomb however there were no record of white wine in Egypt until the 3rd century AD, 1600 years after the young pharaoh died according to the traditional chronology. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/mg18925395.400
It can be interpreted as a contribution towards New Chronology theory that pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Are you afraid of Ghost?.......2004-08-05

This book launches the Cleric Quintet characters even further than the second book did. This is where Cadderly's major character change occurs. In the previous books, Cadderly was a struggling self-doubting and inexperienced boy. He thought himself useless to his friends, and in Sylvan Shadows, he leaves Danica because he was afraid (he admits this in the book). Now, though, Cadderly finds a new purpose for himself and rekindles his relationship with Danica and his friends. He survives against gigantic odds and political intrigue. The entire time, he has no idea how many people are looking to kill him, and yet he manages to escape and fight back.

R.A. Salvatore is successful in weaving a complex and suspenseful story, with amazing characters and interesting subplots. Ghost is a remarkable character. For those familiar with the Drizzt novels, just imagine what would happen if Ghost happened to meet the dark elf. Could Drizzt shield himself from the Ghearufu? Ghost and the Night Mask assassins present themselves as a tremendously evil force, and I often wondered if Cadderly and his friends could withstand them. At times, the story may seem like it drags, but I believe it was necessary to describe what Cadderly goes through in the Dragon's Codpiece. His ascension towards Deneir is quite a dramatic change in this series; Cadderly now has unfathomable powers that will only keep growing.

If you enjoyed the previous books in this series, or even if you didn't but want to know what happens after Sylvan Shadows, I recommend reading this book. It is the turn of the tide in the Cleric Quintet series, and the last few chapters of the book are quite spectacular.

5 out of 5 stars Creative and Exciting Novel.......2003-03-17

First of all, let me say that I was not pleased with the first two novels in the series. I bought the collector's edition, so since I already had it I decided to continue anyways. With that said, as you can see from my five star rating that I really enjoyed this book. As to why I enjoyed this book more the first two, well there are lots of reasons. The most glaring reason is that they just didn't match up to the quality that I attribute to most of Salvatore's novels. They were just not well written and the first one lacked excitement altogether.

The main villain in this novel, Ghost the Night Mask assassin, keeps the story going from start to finish. He is definitely a worthy adversary. His cunning and abilities make him the perfect assassin almost unbeatable...almost. Cadderly has also undergone a major transformation. He finally grows up in this novel and I actually started become interested in him something I would not say in the first two novels. I love the way he struggles to first understand and then control his newfound powers even questioning their true origins. The powers are really quite powerful perhaps even too powerful, but that remains to be seen.

Another thing that I really like about this book is the fate of Rufo. I have been waiting for his selfish deeds to lead to his death for far too long. I have just hated how he seems to be forgiven for the most complete betrayals. Well let it just suffice to say that he gets what he deserves and I was completely surprised by the outcome. The other part I enjoyed was the gripping Salvatore quality battle sequences. The second novel in the series was alright in this concern, but the first novel really disappointed me.

I still have my grips though they are minor. I was dismayed when I saw the return of the yo-yo, spindle-disk. I was hoping I had seen the last of them when Cadderly got his staff enchanted. Also the results of Ivan's tinkering with the yo-yo seems completely absurd to me. Some of things that Cadderly ends up doing with it defies even fantasy reality. And I still don't like the concept behind Pickel's character though I have gotten use to it.

Well I hope the rest of the story continues on the momentum of this novel. I don't know if I would recommend the entire series yet, but I do recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars A must read.......2002-09-11

Salvatore beats himself in delightful full of action book.
For the fans of Drizzt, Cadderly proves to be another love caracter

3 out of 5 stars The priest continues to develop.......2002-08-14

This book is the third in the "Cleric Quintet" series by R.A. Salvatore. I liked this book more than the previous one in the series. Cadderly, the protagonist, starts to develop more than before. After fleeing from a battle in the previous novel, he moves to a nearby city instead of going back to the place where he has lived most of his life; the Edificant Library. It is here that Cadderly's religious struggles start to manifest themselves. Cadderly's continued struggle with violence (and a consequent trepidation with battle) slowly starts to resolve itself.

Cadderly starts to have mystical experiences with his a holy book and eventually learns how to control it. The introduction of the "Night Masks" a feared group of assassins is somewhat interesting. It is certainly a change from the constant battles against goblins, giants and the like that filled the second novel in this series. In particular, the villain of this work is original and indeed truly evil. My only criticism with the villains of this series is that they often seem to be a little flat; they are simply evil. There is little ambiguity to make the reader think.

The most original aspect to this series, which mentioned in my review of "Canticle" (the first novel of the series), is in putting a priest on center stage instead of the more traditional fighters. The inclusion of a monk and two dwarves mean that the novel still retains a traditional amount of firepower. One might even say that the heroes of the novel defeat their villains a little to easily, but that is too be expected.

In response to some of the other reviewers here, I think some are to quick to praise the series, frequently giving it a 5 star rating. I think that is too generous, while at the same time, I think it is unfair to label this work as trash. It is a reasonably good series, but I don't know if it is worth buying. If you want to read the classic fantasy novel, there is no question. The novel you want is, "The Lord of the Rings." It launched the modern fantasy genre and, for many people, remains the standard against which all other fantasy novels are too be measured.

4 out of 5 stars A pretty good book in a fairly good series. . ........2001-10-18

Night Masks, Book 3 of the Cleric Quintet - R. A. Salvatore
A Review

Hmmm. I shall make my feelings on the Cleric Quintet known right now: it is a strictly mediocre fantasy series. Nothing special. Salvatore is a very good writer, though. He wrote the Demon series, (As I write this review, I am currently reading the first book in the series, The Demon Awakens, and it is exceptional. Very promising. I shall soon write a review on that book as well.), the Crimson Shadows series (I haven't read any of those books), and the Icewind Dale Trilogy and Dark Elf Trilogy of the Forgotten Realms line of role-playing fantasy books. The Cleric Quintet is also part of the Forgotten Realms. This series, however, would never have been published as a stand-alone series, though. It introduces nothing new to the reader, the characters are dull and uninspired (even immature, to some extent), and is written in the typical R. A. Salvatore format that I have grown to dislike.
About this book, though, the third novel in the series, I read this one with considerably more enjoyment that the other two. It featured an interesting, challenging villian, and a plot more unique that the other books in the series. In addition to that, the two main characters' (Cadderly and Danica) relationship blooms into maturity. (In other words, they end up "doing it!" For those rigid, unmoving readers out there, though, don't worry: no actual eroticism in this book. Or the entire series, for that matter.) Like all the other novels in the Cleric Quintet, there is no interesting or even significant character development.
I think I'll cut this review short, because my opinion on the series is (or should be, if you're reading this) obvious by now, and no one wants to read why I think this series is such a mediocre waste of time. What about Salvatore's writing style, though? There is nothing unique about that, nothing that could even be called sophisticated.
If you've read my other two reviews on the previous two books, you'll know what to expect with the series, but, despite all my determined ranting, it is still pretty good to read, with exciting battles, and unexpected occurences. That, perhaps, is why this series isn't half bad. One does not know what to expect when reading it. That, though, perhaps, might be because no one cares enough to bother anticipating what will occur next in the book. . .

5 out of 5 stars Strangers and The Voice Of The Night .......2006-06-10

I've read 26 Dean Koontz books, and while I haven't read The Mask, both Strangers and The Voice Of The Night are excellent. Strangers is about a handful of people from different parts of the country who are experiencing bizzare, frightening occurrences and obsessions that are ruining their lives after staying at the same hotel a year ago. They all meet up and uncover the truth about what happened to them.

In The Voice Of The Night, a shy, unpopular boy who is struggling with his parents' seperation befriends a sadistic boy who tries to get him to go along with him in games of death.

Some other great Koontz books that I recommend you check out are "Intensity", "Twilight Eyes", "Whispers", "Watchers", "The Servants Of Twilight", "The Door To December", "Cold Fire", and "Lightning".

3 out of 5 stars Mike Crow "voices in The Night".......2001-11-02

The book I read was called "The Voice In The Night." It was about a boy named Colin and his best friend named Roy. Colin is about five feet twelve inches. Roy is alt stronger than Colin. Once they start telling eachother more about their lives Roy reveals something so outrageous Colin can't believe him.Since Colin refuses to believe him. Roy feels compelled to do it again. It takes place six miles out of town in a junkyard where no one is around. When Colin and ROy get into a argument about what Royt is trying to do things get very ugly. Since I don't want to give the ending of this book away I'll let you read it.

4 out of 5 stars 3 great tales.......2000-02-26

I liked all three of these books. A very good combination of Dean Koontz' tales. A must read for anyone interested in DK and his cross-genre books.

3 out of 5 stars Not the greatest Kootnz has written.......1999-10-30

The book was very intriguing for the first 20 and last 50 pages, but the middled seemed to lose the reader in meaningless information. The antagonist of the story, Roy, was a great character. Pay close attention to him because you can never tell if you love him or hate him. Koontz did a great job with the characters in that aspect. The story line seemed to lack in something but it was an all around average book.

1 out of 5 stars Can you spell Boring?.......1999-05-21

OK. Let me see here. This book was boring. Was also boring. And I can't forget to say that it was boring. And not to metion it's boringness. But overall this book was B-O-R-I-N-G. It should of been called STRANGERS:The book that will bore you to death.

No good idea ever goes unimitated. Thus, recent years have introduced several mystery series built around disaster-bedeviled Elizabethan theater troupes. The most consistently entertaining of these may be Edward Marston's stories about Westfield's Men and resourceful stage manager Nicholas Bracewell (The Vagabond Clown), but in close competition is Simon Hawke's series starring a young William Shakespeare and his friend Symington "Tuck" Smythe III as amateur sleuths (The Merchant of Vengeance). The Bard does a turn too in Philip Gooden's Mask of Night, the fifth lighthearted puzzler to feature actor-cum-detective Nick Revill.

With London bracing for twin tragedies--the imminent death of Queen Elizabeth I and the spread of bubonic plague--Revill and his fellow members of Chamberlain's Men hie off in 1603 to Oxford. There they are to perform Romeo and Juliet for the benefit of two feud-prone families about to be linked through marriage. But the pestilence follows these performers west, making them less than welcome in the college town, and what joy should have arisen from the nuptials of William Sadler and Sarah Constant is soured by the locked-room knifing of a local doctor and aspiring thespian, who had commissioned the company's Oxford appearance. As he did in The Pale Companion and Alms for Oblivion, Revill--already alert to a poisoning threat against the bride, wary of Shakespeare's evident dalliance with a tavern keeper's striking spouse, and spooked by the crepuscular roamings of men attired as giant black birds--must do his unheroic best to separate happenstance from homicide. This will require figuring out not only how a corpse changed his shoes, but what relationship the perishing of a formidable old nurse has to do with "naughty men's cherries."

British author Gooden has some trouble here keeping all of his plot lines lively; one, concerning Sarah Constant's envious cousin, is particularly disappointing for how much it promises but how little it delivers. Yet Mask of Night nimbly captures the societal arcana of 17th-century England, with its con men profiting from faked sicknesses and physicians fusing science with superstition. Endowed of circuitous intrigues and a perspicacious protagonist, this novel is--to quote the Bard himself--"as merry as the day is long." --J. Kingston Pierce

Book Description

Elizabeth I approaches the end of her illustrious reign, the plague is raging in London, and the Privy Council has ordered the theaters closed. Still, author Philip Gooden's fifth novel in the popular Shakespearean series brings us a great mystery as actor-sleuth Nick Revill and the Chamberlain's Men travel to Oxford, where a local physician, Dr. Hugh Fern, has commissioned a private performance of Romeo and Juliet. While Fern's motive is obscure-an attempt to reconcile two feuding families to the prospect of a marriage, perhaps; or maybe simply a ploy to get himself a role in the production-his fate is not. Indeed, he is decidedly dead, when his body is discovered during a performance at the Golden Cross Inn. No matter that the deceased lies inside a locked room or that the pestilence has followed the Chamberlain troupe from London, Revill is convinced Fern has not succumbed to natural causes. Nor is Fern's death the only one that rouses Revill's suspicions. The mysteries multiply as a strange band of men in cowls patrols the town at night, a simple carter meets a baffling end, and a corpse changes its shoes.

4 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!.......2005-04-10

Gooden offers a wonderful look into Shakespeare's time. I was delighted that The Bard is a secondary character rather than the investigator, and that one does not need a great knowledge of Shakespeare or his plays to enjoy the book. It is a classic mystery with clues and suspense along the way. I loved the character of Nick Revill and didn't feel hampered by having started the series late into it. This was the first I've read in this series, but have already ordered all the others.

    5 out of 5 stars Night Mask ---- A Good Read, A Good Scare, & A Good Moral.......2000-03-27

I have read almost all of Mr. Johnstone's published work. I enjoy most all of his books, but my favorites are still the ones from his horror genre. There are many that prefer his para military and his western genre. "Night Mask" would not disappoint any of the groups. It is well researched in that locations are recognizable in real-life and that characters act consistent with their chosen profession and created personalities....until they surprise you. The twists and turns in the plot are many, but don't retract from the "readability" of the book. Mr. Johnstone has a way of refining the story of good vs. evil so that it is re-invented again and again in his books and never turns mundane. He can be graphic without the turning it gross. "Night Mask" is an above average example of Mr. Johnstone's talent as an author and I highly recommend giving it a go.

    5 out of 5 stars A exciting story!!!.......1999-01-12

This book is the first Mystery story I have read by Johnstone, and I am not dissapointed. This book contains most of the things that peoples attention: rape, murder, phony leads, and a unexpected ending. I hope others read this book and to those who do I say good for you. But to those who think this book is beneath you I would have to say it's your loss. Fight the evil and enjoy the thrill of the chase.

5 out of 5 stars A book all liberals should be forced to read!.......1997-04-04

This book was one that I had trouble putting down. Every page became more exciting than the last. I have read almost every book Mr. Johnstone has written and this one rates as good as "Out Of Ashes". All congressmen and judges should read the "Ashes" series. Keep up the GREAT work, maybe we can convert a few bleeding heart liberals

5 out of 5 stars Michael and his warriors fought against the dragon, satan........1997-03-21

Good or evil. In this day and time most people would chose evil. But there are a few who not only chose good, but chose to fight evil. This is such a story. When you read this book you not only can picture the evil, but you can feel it also. Life is not safe and this book points out that, we really don't know our neighbor or the people around us. Evil is not prejudice and hero's aren't born every day. The writing is simple, but descriptive. Facts and places in the book are real and you can see Mr. Johnstone did alot of reseach into the occult. You can not read this book only once, it will entice and keep you coming back for more. I have a collection of over 8000 books and by far this is one of my favorite

            Book Description

One night Moon, lonely and weary of her appointed rounds, slips away to see the wide world. Stars and Sun join woodcock, owl, and other forest creatures to watch for the runaway's return. Moon takes twelve months to circle back, but then she's beaming and full, knowing "It's here I belong." Celebrating her return, North Wind gives Moon the gift of a yearly visit to earth, every Wishing Night, to "play in the blowing snow." Gail Lamar's hauntingly lovely story is richly illustrated with Cynthia Mask's delicate and evocative watercolor paintings, appealing to the eyes and imaginations of children and adults alike.
