Book Description
The Brewing Storm
Earth, air, fire, water --
A child must bring them all together.
Calm the shaking, quell the slaughter
Tonight's the night -- it's now or never.
Despite wacky weather threatening the San Francisco area, life for the Charmed Ones is as normal as ever. Normal, that is, until eleven-year-old Tyler Michaels shows up at their door. Tyler, a Firestarter, is on the run from demons. Though the Halliwell sisters have dealt with Tyler before, a glance at the Book of Shadows turns up new, unexpected information about the boy...and the forces for which his magic can be harnessed.
Once a century the planets align in such a way that the tides shift and the climate changes, causing unpredictable weather and earthquakes. With the world out of balance the Fire-starter is charged with gathering the other Elementals on the Night of Aeolus to perform a sacred ritual. Without this ritual the weather will eventually tear the world apart. But the demons chasing Tyler want to divert the Elemental power and channel it for a dark evil. The Charmed Ones must prevent this from happening at all costs -- but the Night of Aeolus is already upon them....

The Brewing Storm.......2005-10-05
This is a terrific book for anyone who likes the Charmed series.
I felt like something was missing though.
Mr. Ruditis does not disappoint.......2005-08-17
Sounds redundant but I don't care :-P I absolutely LOVE this book :-D.
I thought it was a nice change to bring back a guest-star from an earlier episode(should be done more often... although, most of the new characters are well done though) and how Paul gave Tyler and Daryl big roles in the book. Daryl has some great lines in this story... it's a wonder/an injustice they haven't done this on the series, Daryl's a great character.
'Brewing Storm's got the right mix of drama/humor/action with suspense and some romance too. It was cute how Phoebe was having problems with her contract at work :-D.
The other Elementals were well thought out and to borrow a line from another review *sorry!* [The character development was strong and pronounced] - very true. I became attached to them very quickly. My favorite was the Earth-Shaker Muriel... she'd be an interesting Grandma hehe.
The Wind-Walker (too lazy to look in my copy for his name) would've made a nice boyfriend for Paige. Disappointing that the writers can't adapt some of these books, this one would've made a great ep of the show and even a feature film (Charmed fandom or not) *5th Season would've been improved vastly with some of these books*
No offense to Mr. Ruditis but WAAAAAY better than his story in 'Warren Witches'
Equal to 'Soul of the Bride' and 'Queen's Curse' in my opinion. Writing's top-notch and Mr. Ruditis writes the Halliwells/Daryl/Tyler very well (right up there with Diana Gallagher).
Bottom line: Go pick up this book NOW, great way to pass your time in between reruns of Charmed :).
Perfect.......2005-07-22
This is definetly the best in the Charmed series. Bringing back Tyler was perfect. The way they mixed him in with the magical world along with Darryl was great. I love the connection with him and Piper. I think that's definetly what decided on her and Leo wanting a family. Back to the book, I love the other characters they brought in as well: the earth shaker, the wind dude, and the water barrer. They were all so amazing together, and it's disappointing that this wasn't an episode.
The Storm Brews Well.......2005-06-15
Paul Ruditis is an extremely good writer. His main weapon here was his great sense of humor. Combining small punchlines and slightly-'duh' jokes, he makes this an enjoyable read. The first book mentioning the elements at all, Paul uses a good plot to make the story move with relative pace. He controls the story well, and writes excellently. The ending is good and I am very pleased to note that he did not forget about Phoebe's contract problem. That said, however, he makes a reference to some places in San Franscisco. That is where the sisters live, after all, but the places mentioned, like the reservoir, is misleading because there is no premention of it in the earlier parts. I was thinking along the lines of the Manor being a center point and the points that form it being a nexus as the points where the Elementals must stand. Overall, a good book.
Love Charmed, didn't like Paul Ruditis' writing........2005-01-22
I seem to be the minority as far as reviews go but I found Paul Ruditis' writing to be very choppy. And the characters personalities were off. Piper is not a mushy person, but Paul portrayed her as being very lovey and endearing to the child in this story. I remember when Piper's first son, Wyatt was born and how she felt she could not get close to him. That is not the type of woman who would be motherly to an 11 yr old child she doesn't know. I just had a hard time getting into the book. The writing didn't flow in my opinion and every character was far too sentimental and mushy for their true selves. The worst part in the whole book were the lame and ill-placed bouts of humor. It just didn't flow. I won't be buying another one of Paul Ruditis' works, I find them lacking in talent.

Nothing stirs up trouble like booze, politics, murder and money--all prime ingredients in Emma Lathen's latest. The story involves a Chicago brewery that begins selling its nonalcoholic beer in a chain of children's restaurants. A morally minded Congressional committee gets involved when a political activist group, No Beer-Buying Youngsters (Nobby), chimes in. Things get dicey when the mouthy leader of Nobby is gunned down, leaving the lords of Wall Street nervous about this venture.
Book Description
When a 19-year-old boy dies in a drunk driving accident, Madeline Underwood decides to convince the world that Kischel Brewery's "soft drink" leads young people to try the harder stuff. But Underwood faces formidable enemies: Kischel's investment bankers, including the unmistakable John Putnam Thatcher, their razor-sharp attorneys and no less than the head of a Congressional committee that she's managed to publicly embarrass. So when Madeline is found dead, stuffed in the closet of the building where the committee convened, it takes all of Thatcher's acumen to sift through a long list of killers. It's the case that would drive a lesser man to drink.
Customer Reviews:
Cheers for the murderer!.......2004-11-01
This yarn tells the story of an anti-beer activist, Mrs. Maddie Underwood. Mrs. Underwood (never referred to as "Maddie" except by her sworn enemies) is the leader of NOBBY, a group that seeks to prevent underage drinking. At the beginning of the story, NOBBY is engaged in a lawsuit in which the parents of a teenager who died after imbibing are suing Kischel, the producers of a non-alcoholic beer their son was fond of. They accuse the company of wrongful death because they, with NOBBY's backing, argue that Kischel's near-beer led to developing an addiction to stronger stuff. At the same time, congressional hearings about the implications of non-alcoholic beer sales to minors are being held, and Underwood wants to use these hearings to further her cause and that of her organization. The problem is, Underwood is a batty, self-centered, and thoroughly unsympathetic character. By the time the author finally gets around to murdering her, you will have long been ready to do the same yourself- -if you haven't given up on the book entirely by then.
After Underwood is put under, the story finally begins to pick steam. There are a few clues to help us determine who did it. By the way, this is a John Putnam Thatcher mystery. If you haven't read other books in the series, then you may wonder who in the world this Thatcher is, and why Lathen goes to such pains to give him bit parts early on in the book. Through his trivially tangential links to the case, Thatcher develops enough interest in the murder by the end of the book to solve the crime through deductive reasoning so that he can point the police in the right direction to make an arrest. This is a complicated book with numerous plot-threads that will try the patience of all but the most devoted Thatcher fans.
It was OK but not one of her best.......1998-04-01
I thought there were too many characters and the story rambled on over the same ground. In addition, this story had too little emphasis on high finance which is always my favourite area. I felt after I read it that this story could have been about widgets and it would have made no real difference.
Very enjoyable but not up to her best.......1997-06-24
I have read all Emma Lathen's books and have just finished this one. It is fun, but I missed some of her usual characters - Tom Robichaux, Everett Gabler and Walter Bowman in particular. However, the plot was tight and altogether a good read
