Powerful even without the maths.......2007-05-18
"Adversarial Reasoning" is a powerful work and relevant for folks who are not computer oriented.
Coming from a liberal arts background (masters in poli-sci, BA in classical humanities), things like sigma notations and multiple Greek letters in a formula make me break out in a cold sweat and the shakes. Despite this disadvantage, the qualitative parts of each chapter were of great relevance to anyone involved in predictive analysis of n-player games (like geo-politics). Each chapter started with a clear and well articulated presentation of the material before going into the maths and computer applications of the concepts. It is this presentation that I read, before having to go for a lie-down when I saw all the formulae.
The book was laid out logically, with a handy little matrix to show the appropriate chapter for a given sub-topic up front. The first section was a discussion of the opponent and infering and identifying the opponent's intent. The second section was a discussion of deception. The third section was split between the impact of imperfect information and strategizing. Deception (building on the discussions of opponent's intent) was both the best developed concept, and probably the one most directly applicable by the non-computer person. Imperfect information, however, may be the most important discussion in the book as this is the situation most disturbing to real world actors.
The closest thing to a criticism is just a vague perception that the authors might be a little naive about the ruthlessness of real world actors. This may be an artifact of the academic language. Also, a closer examination of situations of asymmetric utility and the impact of this situation on all actors in game play would be valuable to real world applications.
Over all, a great work. This work re-written in purely qualitative terms for poli-sci and military folks (n.b. history is the most common major among Army officers) would be a valuble addition to the education of future political and military leaders.
For folks from liberal arts backgrounds - don't let the numbers cow you, there is a lot of value in the first pages of each chapter.
Adversarial Reasoning - Exploring The Undiscovered Country!.......2007-03-30
Traditional thinking about adversaries has addressed easily observable and quantifiable issues, such as what? how many? who? The undiscovered country is a place where other, perhgaps more relevant questions are answered: when? why? how likely? under what conditions? It is a place where, perhaps, one can makes reasonable stabs at "what is the adversary likely to do next?"
For anyone interested in going beyond the exercise of counting and analyzing things (airplanes, missiles, bullets, etc), this book is an essential addition. Why? Because it shows new applications of maturing fields of science to the task of UNDERSTANDING THE ENEMY.
The only weakness, and a minor one at that, is that the book, though new, does not address some of the state-of-the-art analytical tools now becoming available. But, perhaps these will be covered in follow-on books. They should be.
Defines the Current State of the Art.......2006-11-22
As early as the 1950's and 60's computer scientists began to apply computers to game theory. The results appeared as a series of computer games. As computer power has increased so has the complexity of the games. Playing the game at verious skill levels soon followed. This has required the analysis of what the game adversary can do to you in terms of the resources he has, where your resources are deployed, etc.
The inverse of this problem is to analyze what the adversary can or might do that would affect your own security. As this capability began to be realized, DARPA, the central research authority of the US Department of Defense began several research programs to assist in predicting what an adversary might do.
This book is written by several researchers in the field who describe the particular aspects of their own research as it ties into the overall research being conducted. The book is organized into three general areas:
Determinining the Opponents Intent and Plans,
Detecting Deception,
Operating with Limited and Perhaps Corrupted Information.
This book represents the state of the art in the field as it ties in game theory, artificial intelligence, behaviorial science, statistical and probabilistical methods, along with numerous computer science procedures to begin to see what our adversaries are planning.

The first in the Family Secrets continuity series.......2005-08-30
Courtesy of Love Romances Reviews
Zach Ingram has been kidnapped... by mistake. His captors actually wanted his brother Jake, who is one of five genetically altered children who were adopted many years ago. The people who took him believing him to be Jake think he has information they need. Unlucky for them they grabbed the wrong brother.
Dr. Maisy Dalton is the best in her field. She is a brilliant psychiatrist, a master at deprogramming and hypnotherapy. When she is called in to work with "Jake" she expects it to be a run of the mill situation. She never expected that what she'd find would be highly dangerous to her life... and her heart.
This first full-length book in the Family Secrets series sets the stage for the books to follow. Mystery abounds as Maisy tries to get to the bottom of what has happened to Zach since he was kidnapped. Zach is weak from being drugged and feels helpless while she is risking life and limb to keep him safe. The love grows between them throughout all the adversity they face giving the readers faith that all will work out in the end.
This reviewer was a little disappointed in how little reference was made to the "Extraordinary Five," the now adult genetically superior people. The premise of this series is supposed to be about these five children who were altered to be superhuman. Only a few brief mentions were made to them, mainly by the kidnappers. It would have been preferred to have a little more information given in to the background of the five and what it was done to make them the "Extraordinary Five," which is what drew this reader to the series.
This book will appeal to readers who love to have a bit of suspense with their romance, so long as they don't expect to delve into the underlying theme of the Family Secrets series.

John Doe, anyone?!.......2003-10-23
Overall, the book carried me through, I didn't put it down until I was finished. Heck, I didn't even peek at the end like I so often do with books. Some may even call that cheating, but it's a need to know type thing.
My big problem with the book was the whole 'suspension of belief' type thing. Plus it had some serious John Doe undertones and since it was published this year, I have to think that the author had to have been watching John Doe. Why did I feel this way? For starters, you have a guy who gets kidnapped by two old geezers and the typical large dumb guy. Well, the head of this ring is the old lady (hmmm, the first John Doe link). They take this guy off to a distant ranch out in the desert, then they invite a Psychiatrist to 'deprogram' him. They are trying to make him remember his past, but they've got the wrong guy. They really wanted his adopted brother who looks just like him, though they don't know this yet.
So far, this could just seem like an amateurish kidnapping attempt, but they keep alluding to something bigger. Something more organized. The problem with this is the fact that they leave the psychiatrist alone at the remote ranch with the big dumb guy. For one, if they were really a major organization they'd have their own deprogrammer and wouldn't lure someone unknown out to do the job. Second, they wouldn't leave the idiot whom they think will talk too much ALONE for days with the intelligent psychiatrist and the kidnap victim.
So many things just don't add up. And then at the end they have a scene where the plane chases them down and they shoot it down with hand guns. The cops arrive and they can't even find the old geezers that they tied up or the big dumb guy that they shot in the head... After I think all this through I begin to wonder why I read the entire book in one sitting. (I also wonder how an unconscious woman can ride a horse bareback for hours, but hey it's fiction - right?)
This book was the setup novel for the 'Family Secrets' series about the extraordinary five and a group called Medusa. So far, it has a lot of John Doe undertones and a lot of very stupid activities by this Medusa group. How organized can they be?
I've heard a lot of good things about Maggie Shayne's Vampire series - I just hope that it's more 'believable' than this story.
A good start to the series..........2003-06-25
Dr. Maisy Dalton stopped treating patients one on one the day her husband confessed to having an affair with a patient. When he died, Maisy retreated into the world of research, publishing books that she hoped would help people since that was the only way she could do it now. When she receives a call from a seemingly distraught woman claiming her son needs Maisy's help, she finds that she can still be drawn to the hands on work that she so loved.
Zach Ingram tried to tell them that his name wasn't Jake, but they didn't believe him. Soon he realized that if they believed him, they would no longer have use for him. Asking him questions that he has no answers, and keeping him drugged, Zach is more than ready for the angel that arrives to help him. At first he thought she was one of them, but he soon realizes that she has been decieved too.
Together, Maisy and Zach come together in an isolated ranch house that holds many secrets. Maisy breaks her number one rule, getting involved with a patient. For there is something about Zach that touches her in places that she has never been touched, even by her husband. Zach only knows that he has to get them out alive. He may only be a professor at a college, but he can be a hero too!
riveting work of romantic suspense.......2003-06-16
Jake Ingram is a well-known economist who is aiding the FBI in their investigation of the World Bank Heist. The Ingrams adopted Jake at the age of twelve and there is nobody he is closer to than his adopted sibling Zach. Jake has no memories of his life before he was twelve and that problem is why Zach is in so much trouble. Somebody has kidnapped him as he was leaving Glen Laurel University thinking he was his brother, confined him in a deserted farmhouse and drugged him.
The kidnappers told psychiatrist and hypnotist Dr. Maisy Dalton that Jake was brainwashed after being in a cult for over a decade. When Maisy sees Zach for the first time he tries to tell her that he isn't Jake. After seeing how his "family" treats him, she finally believes him and they make their escape. When the kidnappers find them, a battle ensues and only one group will walk away from it alive.
Maggie Shayne always writes a riveting work of romantic suspense but she out does even herself in her latest work ENEMY MIND. The two protagonists are attracted to each other from their first meeting but because of some painful events in her past, she is afraid to act on her feelings. Zach, who always thought he was a wimp compared to Jake, shows that he is a true hero as he defends the woman he loves against those who seek to destroy her. ENEMY MIND is the first installment in what looks to be a great series.

When word got out in 1995 that the U.S. Defense Department and CIA had funded efforts to read people's minds, the news understandably excited all sorts of derision and conspiracy theories. Who would imagine that the story behind the efforts is actually a fascinating tale about the possibilities of human potential? Paul H. Smith tells the story of the U.S. "psychic spying" program in his book Reading the Enemy's Mind. Smith doesn't come across as some flaky new-ager. He was a young U.S. Army intelligence officer and Arab linguist who had no previous interest in extra-sensory perception when he was recruited into the program code-named "Star Gate" in 1983. Over the next seven years, he became one of the army's premier "remote viewers" and the primary author of its training manual on the subject. He also served as a tactical intelligence officer in the 101st Airborne Division in Operation Desert Storm/Shield and got a Master's degree from the Defense Intelligence College.
In Reading the Enemy's Mind, Smith reveals that the military and intelligence communities performed hundreds of experiments and operational intelligence assignments using "remote viewing," the government's term for ESP. The program's first big success came in 1979 when a viewer found a downed Soviet bomber in Africa after other intelligence operatives had failed--a coup praised by President Jimmy Carter. The psychics received target assignments from virtually every U.S. national-security agency, and Smith says they produced numerous positive results. Smith's biggest revelation, however, is that the government research found that almost all people--not merely a gifted few--seem to have the potential of developing ESP skills, with enough practice and a few tips from a pro like Smith. Many readers will no doubt find it hard to know what to make of Reading the Enemy's Mind and whether to believe any of it, but Smith writes with both color and a measured tone that together produce a captivating yarn even for the non-believers out there. --Alex Roslin
Book Description
If you thought The Manchurian Candidate was fiction or John Farris's The Fury, which featured a CIA mind-control program run amok, was the stuff of an overheated imagination, you were sorely mistaken. From behind the cloak of U.S. military secrecy comes the story of Star Gate, the project that for nearly a quarter of a century trained soldiers and civilian spies in extra-sensory perception (ESP). Their objective: To search out the secrets of America's cold war enemies using a skill called "remote viewing." Paul H. Smith, a U.S. Army Major, was one of these viewers. Assigned to the remote viewing unit in 1983 at a pivotal time in its history, Smith served for the rest of the decade, witnessing and taking part in many of the seminal national-security crises of the twentieth century. With the Star Gate secrets declassified and the program mothballed by the Central Intelligence Agency, the story can now be told of the ordinary soldiers drafted onto the battlefield of human consciousness. Using hundreds of interviews with the key players in the Star Gate program, and gathering thousands of pages of documents, Smith opens the records on this remarkable chapter in American military, scientific, and cultural history. He reveals many secrets about how remote viewing works and how it was used against enemy targets. Among these stories are the search for hostages in Lebanon; spying on Soviet directed energy weapons; investigating the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland; tracking foreign testing of weapons of mass destruction; combating narco-trafficking off America's coasts; aiding in the Iranian hostage situation; finding KGB moles in the CIA; pursuing Middle East terrorists; and more.Between the lines in the official records are revelations about unrelenting attempts from within and without to destroy the remote viewing program, and the efforts that kept Star Gate going for more than two decades in spite of its enemies. This is a story for the believer and the skeptic---a rare look at the innards of a top secret program and an eye-opening treatise on the power of the human mind to transcend the limitations of space and time.
Customer Reviews:
Read This Book.......2007-05-12
First of all, read the other reviews because the previous reviewers hit on most of the salient points and there is no sense in repeating what they say most of which I agree with. Now, you are either someone who knows a little about remote viewing or maybe very little or nothing. If you know a lot about remote viewing, you have already read this book I wager. If you know a little bit about remote viewing and are interested in learning more about the field, you will want to read this book for a lot of good background information as well as practical tips of how to go about remote viewing since this is not a theoretical book per se but one which recounts the actual and practical experiences of people doing this for a living. This book should be a standard read for undertaking your own remote viewing projects. You will want to obtain more of a "how to" book in addition to this one to get some specific techniques down. However, this book will add invaluble information and insights to help in your own adventures.
For those who have discovered remote viewing or have come across this book and entire field for the first time, this book is pretty evenhanded and tries to stick with factual events and actual session results as much as possible. There is not really any far out speclation as to "the" explanation of how remote viewing works nor does the author make any far fetched claims of uncovering the secrets of UFO's, conspiratorial cabals or end time propechies which can not be verified objectively (or at least we haven't figured out how to verify these types of things objectively yet.) There are plenty of people who make these claims and plenty of books which read like science fiction, but the problem is that the reader is left with things that can't be verified easily and has to decide to believe in a tale or dismiss the entire field. Now, you can choose to believe what Paul Smith says in this book or not. However, Smith provides numerous references and notes in this book. Even more importantly, he provides information which the reader can verify or if s/he desires and can perform similar experiments which can be verified. This is the nice thing about remote viewing in general; one can test out the concepts themselves. The book is well written and flows easily. One reviewer indicated it might be a bit of work to read which I iniitally thought as I was reading the first chapter but then it was hard to put the book down as the meat events and experiences were related. Hopefully, you will decide to read this book first rather than some other more speculative books on the subject to keep some balance in your investigation of this interesting and practical metaphysical field.
Reading the Enemy's Mind.......2007-01-19
I'm only half way through it, which indicates that it's easy to put down. A worthy book, but with a style embracing a chronological catalogue of events, which slowed the read. A documentray of events.
The Real Deal.......2006-11-12
Anyone who's new to remote viewing might want to read this book because of the historical insight. The author gives a no hype account of what actually did go on within the U.S. spy program along with his own life experiences from that point in time. He also provides perspective on those who he considers legit in the remote viewing field versus those we should question. A must read.
An Invitation I'm Glad I Accepted.......2006-05-19
I was invited to read this book after my review of Lyn Buchanan's, "The Seventh Sense." I was skeptical that this book would be much different but I accepted the invitation anyway and, in the end, I am glad I did. This book left me with a much different idea of remote viewing and those involved in this military program. First of all, I can now believe that there was such a program, that it was ligitimate and I can now understand the logic, motives and development behind it all.
Paul Smith wrote in this book, "After being linked to Galactic Federations, subterranean Martians, and planetary-sized spaceships, finding out what remote viewing was really like, and hearing the true story of remote viewing in its relative plainness was often a letdown."
I wouldn't call this book a letdown but it does read like a history not a passionate revelation of the powers of the human mind. And, although history with its multitude of names and dates and places doesn't generally grab my interest, it makes for a much more realistic, practical, believable account and, in the end, that makes it more interesting because I feel I can trust the author.
I admit to remembering few of the names and places and none of the dates in this book but I so appreciated learning the theories of how remote viewing works and the author's candidness about remote viewing's strengths as well as its weaknesses--when the skill was actually helpful and when it failed. The political and social education gleaned from this account was also a highlight for me as well as the matrix idea and a theory of the future and its possibilities. Thankfully, Smith works in enough anecdotes and personal feelings to keep the book grounded including hanging out with Ingo Swann, which movies the team liked to discuss and a nice little recipe for corn on the cob.
I am glad I was invited to read more on the topic because I don't believe I would have otherwise. It has given me much to think about.
THE history of Army RV.......2006-04-14
Paul Smith was named unit historian for the Army's Center Lane - Sun Streak - Star Gate project, and reading this book it is clear why. Smith has an exceptional eye for detail, and goes out of his way to back up any assertions he makes with evidence. In many ways, his method of writing resembles journalistic reporting, meticulously footnoted with his sources clearly identified.
What does differentiate Smith from a journalist, however, is his lack of objectivity when it comes to the various personalities within the RV "community." The author clearly "sides" with the Swann-Puthoff protocol for remote viewing, and holds these pioneers and their methods in undeniably higher regard than any of the more "progressive" viewers who sought to alter or in any way modernize the practice of RV. In that way Smith is a traditionalist or purist, and his critique of other parapsychological methods being integrated into the remote viewing process must be taken with the proverbial "grain of salt." I imagine this has much to do with Smith's close relationship to Swann, who insisted that his protocols be strictly followed in order to maintain the integrity of the technique.
This attitude aside, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining a clearer picture of how RV evolved in relation to the Army's use of it for espionage purposes. The title is sadly misleading - there is little if any "mind reading" going on in this story - but the book itself is fascinating.

The Intimate Enemy: Winning the War Within Yourself.......2001-03-10
Self-development expert Guy Finley and psychologist Ellen Dickstein teamed up to write The Intimate Enemy: Winning the War Within Yourself. Their book is intended for people who are tired of struggling and wish to "sign a peace treaty with life."
Finley and Dickstein explain that "we each have, and operate from, a false nature that is a jumble of our memories, conditioning, and some tempermental qualities." That false self responds to everything that happens to us, and its response is usually negative or defensive. We then find "ourselves caught up in the same kinds of situations again and again, and nothing ever seems to be resolved in a new way."
They call the false self an intimate enemy and say that we are our own worst enemies when it comes to finding true happiness.
Their book devoted to learning how to recognize the intimate enemy and "discover how to rise above our own present psychology."
Our false selves blame events outside ourselves for our unhappiness or see neutral events as threats, with the result that we are contantly battling to control external circumstances. Only when we become aware of the "True Self" within do we learn we are a part of a world of truth and light where all battles are non-existent.
The authors use short stories and examples to show how people misunderstand the world around them. They explain how to become aware of the fallacies the false self continually attempts to foist off as truth, and how to determine what is real and what is deceit. They say that "understanding that we are a multiplicity of selves is critical to recognizing, and ultimately defeating, the intimate enemy."
They emphasize self-study as the primary way of overcoming the false self. Self-study involves rousing ourselves from "psychic slumber" and becoming aware of our thoughts and internal actions. They offer specific tips for achieving greater self-awareness.
The Intimate Enemy is for anyone who wants more from life than a daily battle against unseen enemies.
Interesting concept.......2000-02-17
It is very hard to focus on the now but when I have accomplished it strange things have happened. Once I saw a blue meteor go across the sky and another time I noticed a tiny bird perched on a tree limb staring at me it was a perfectly gorgeous little bird ordinarily I neverr would have seen it.
The Truth shall set you free........1999-10-22
After studying the principles Guy, Ellen and others have shown me for a few years, there is a joy that wells up inside me on a regular basis. The Truth shall set you free, and this particular effort by these two individuals left me with new insights that struck chords deep within me that recognized them as the Truth each time I turned the page. They explain why our outer and inner worlds are filled with so much proverbial darkness and outlines ways individuals can help to move them toward the Light mostly within themselves.
A life-changing book!.......1999-02-10
The Intimate Enemy is a self-help book and more. For those who have been searching for real help in understanding themselves and their lives, this book is what you've been looking for. Written in an easy to understand, step-be-step fashion, you will learn how to detach yourself from what has been preventing you from realizing your potential as a human being. I have read all of Finley's books and have been working with his concepts and exercises for several years. There is no question that applying the principles found in this book can change one's life for the better!
A Most Aweome Book.......1998-11-10
This book is tremendous, it is filled with such practical insight. There are many books out their on the self-help shelves, but this work is not in the same category. Unlike all those other books which only seem to keep you running around like a dog chasing it's tail, this book not only tells you, but shows you how you can be free of any fear or limitation. In fact The Intimate Enemy shows you the only thing that has been holding you back has no more substance than a shadow. Sound unbelievable? IT IS! Don't believe me, test REALITY AND FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF. I also recomend The Lost Secrets of Prayer (by Guy Finley). I have met Guy Finley in person and I can honestly say he is as Genuine as his books. Enjoy! Cousin Vinnie NY

Scholarly take on the rise of Satan.......2007-04-07
This weighty, thorough, wide-ranging, and authoritative book examines ancient texts and uses recent theories about folktales to examine the rise of the character we call Satan.
I was torn between assigning this book 4 stars or 5. It deserves 5 stars by reason of the importance of its subject-matter, the thoroughness of its treatment, and the reasoning power of the author. I feel a slight hesitation only because I feel that the book, which is aimed at academics, could and should be a more popular work aimed at a wider audience, and should help the reader to understand more about the implications for our current world of the development of Satan as, essentially, a literary character. But this may simply be my bringing slightly wrong expectations to a book that is clearly a deeply researched and carefully thought-out piece of work.
Making use of the functional analysis of folktales developed by Vladimir Propp, Forsyth, an expert on Milton's "Paradise Lost", shows us how the modern and theologically vital character of Satan evolved from the ancient "combat myth" in which a hero, seeking glory or justice, sets out to defeat a menacing foe. Examining variants of this tradition from ancient Babylon, Canaan, Greece, and other places, Forsyth shows how the biblical character of Satan (still "the" Satan in the Old Testament--the accuser who had a respectable job on the divine council of Yahweh) gradually came, for theological reasons, to conform to the combat myth as a way of accounting for evil and sin in the world.
In a closely reasoned, step-by-step argument, Forsyth shows how Satan evolved from employee of Yahweh to leader of the angels lustfully tempted by women to resentful rebel against God to cosmic antagonist seemingly rivaling God in power. He concludes with a discussion of the theology of Augustine, who managed to knit the disparate and often incompatible aspects of Christian teaching on cosmology, sin, and evil into a more or less consistent whole that could meet the challenges of sophisticated heretics and pagans.
Forsyth's writing style is scholarly but readable. He has definite opinions about the issues, but comes across as fair and reasonable. His knowledge of the ancient texts and scholarly literature is impressive, and he does many of his own translations. The guy is a brain, and you'll need your thinking-cap on to read this book.
This is an important work in the history of Western religion, philosophy, literature, and ideas. I suppose I feel it's a bit too scholarly and deep to make the wide impact that it deserves. But if you're interested in Satan, Christian theology, the structure of combat myths, or even the underpinning of "Paradise Lost" (which Forsyth does not really discuss in this book, however), this book is for you.
The Old Stumbling Block.......2003-05-04
Forsyth produced a wonderful survey of the development of "Satan" from his "humble" origins as a "thing"--a "stumbling block" or "stn." Along the way, Forsyth discusses the early combat myths, biblical and extra-biblical sources. Reasoned treatments of these sources usually drown the reader unless one has a Ph.D. in various ancient languages. Forsyth succeeds in discussing these sources without wandering into linguistic minutia. When he does discuss the linguistics behind names, he does so clearly and succinctly.
To give an example, he provides a measured explanation of how the concept of "fallen angels" developed from the Genesis passages refering to the "sons of the gods" who come to Earth and mate with human women.
I cannot recommend this book too highly.

Book Description
The dark side. The synthetic self. The not-self. The Gnostics called it the counterfeiting spirit and the Theosophists called it the "dweller-on-the-threshold." There exists within all of us a collective consciousness of all our misdeeds, momentums of many lifetimes, which emerges as a pseudo-identity that wields human power and causes us to do those things we so often regret.
The encounter with the enemy within has been vividly portrayed in classic works of literature such as Sir Bulwer-Lytton's Zanoni, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and in modern movie masterpieces such as Star Wares. From time to time, we contact the tip os the iceberg in our tendency to fear, to be jealous or to get angry and we see those who have become one with their dweller committing rape and mass murder.

Book Description
Best-selling author John Mason again launches an all-out attack on mediocrity with this sequel to his phenomenally popular book An Enemy Called Average. Divided into 52 "nuggets" of truth, Conquering An Enemy Called Average is a source of godly wisdom, scriptural motivation and practical principles. The words of this book will break down the barriers to excellence in your life and release you to be all that God created you to be.
Think about it
Imitation is limitation. Procrastination is the fertilizer that makes difficulties grow. Living a double life will get you nowhere twice as fast. If you chase two rabbits, both will escape. Adversity has advantages. Know your limits, then ignore them. The only place to start is where you are. There is no future in the past. Do what people say cannot be done.
"Take the lid off" of an average lifestyle and live a life of excellence today!

Product Description
Transcending Fear addresses one of the most significant challenges: the process of recognizing and moving beyond fear. In an age in which fear has brought the world to the brink of destruction, understanding why we contract in fear and how we can go beyond this instinctive reaction is essential for our survival as a species. As a World Champion skydiver, test pilot and psychologist, Brian Germain offers a unique personalized perspective on the phenomenon of fear. Reflecting on his many intense experiences with fear, Germain sorts through the most current psychology research on fear, and presents the ways to de-escalate the emotional response in provocative situations. The fundamental premise of the book is simple: Fear makes us stupid. If we are to transcend the limitations imposed by a contracted perspective, we must develop our ability to remain calm. Specific methods for relaxing in dangerous situations are covered in detail, as well as scientific evidence to support the reasons for this unusual and powerful approach to dealing with fear.

Brian does a great job in explaining something I have been wondering about since the day I jumped off a building in down town Paris, with a parachute. What is Fear? How can I leverage Fear to my advantage? How can Fear be a positive factor in my life if well managed?
Since reading Brian's book I now have a better understanding of how to Focus my Fear, negative adrenalin, into positive adrenalin. A must read for adrenalin junkies, business people and anybody who thinks about jumping off a building for fun.Base 66: A Story of Fear, Fun, and Freefall

Product Description
History: Fiction or Science? is the most explosive tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by solid scientific data. The book is well-illustrated, contains over 446 graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays, which never cease to amaze the reader. Eminent mathematician proves that: Jesus Christ was born in 1153 and crucified in 1186 The Old Testament refers to mediaeval events. Apocalypse was written after 1486. Does this sound uncanny? This version of events is substantiated by hard facts and logic - validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources - to a greater extent than everything you may have read and heard about history before. The dominating historical discourse in its current state was essentially crafted in the XVI century from a rather contradictory jumble of sources such as innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts whose originals had vanished in the Dark Ages and the allegedly irrefutable proof offered by late mediaeval astronomers, resting upon the power of ecclesial authorities. Nearly all of its components are blatantly untrue! For some of us, it shall possibly be quite disturbing to see the magnificent edifice of classical history to turn into an ominous simulacrum brooding over the snake pit of mediaeval politics. Twice so, in fact: the first seeing the legendary millenarian dust on the ancient marble turn into a mere layer of dirt - one that meticulous unprejudiced research can eventually remove. The second, and greater, attack of unease comes with the awareness of just how many areas of human knowledge still trust the three elephants of the consensual chronology to support them. Nothing can remedy that except for an individual chronological revolution happening in the minds of a large enough number of people.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Provocative, appealing and controversial.......2006-08-02
Fomenko has succeeded to convincingly demonstrate the misconception about what "history" factually is... It is fiction and -like we can read and judge for ourselves- no science. It indeed is "make belief" only. I "discovered" Fomenko while studying the "old" history of Al Andaluz, Spain. Having found too many contradictions in available data, having seen too many forgeries as to pretend the importance of christianity for its decline, I ventured out to find Fomenko, who convinced me that we know little if anything for sure of the epoch before the XI-century. However, the integration of the Arabic-Islamic cultural history into the heavily distorted Western fails... There are some attempts to fit "the budding new religion" (Islam) into Fomenko's scheme, but they are too weak to be taken seriously and too often focussing on Turkey as the region where things started to influence the West, which is untrue at all.
Islam certainly was no "new religion" in the X-century. That the highly cultivated Al Andaluz ruler Mohammed-I could have been "mirrored" down in time into some myth about the "illiterate" founder of Islam itself is highly speculative. Nevertheless, Fomenko convinces me about the processes that were involved in forging a christian history. Intriguing and controversial as his books are, I recommend them as to rethink our current position in time and space and simply verify what was claimed. It is a "good" book, but not for bedtime reading... Mundus vult decipi, the world wants to be cheated. Fomenko's readers will understand why.
pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.......2006-02-16
Traces of white wine were found in Tutankhamen's tomb however there were no record of white wine in Egypt until the 3rd century AD, 1600 years after the young pharaoh died according to the traditional chronology. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/mg18925395.400
It can be interpreted as a contribution towards New Chronology theory that pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.

Book Description
This book is a compilation of discussions between UG Krishnamurthi and various questioners in India, Switzerland, Australia, the Netherlands, and the U.K. According to UG, "The religious states of bliss and ecstasy can never be experienced, can never be grasped, contained, much less given expression to you, by man. That beaten track will lead you nowhere. There is no oasis situated yonder; you are stuck in a mirage."
Customer Reviews:
U. G. KRISHNAMURTI.......2005-06-07
The UG. books are all dialogues between UG and others that were recorded on various topics. U.G. Krishnamurti is definately a character in the "spiritual" (he dislikes that word associated with him)community.
It is quite difficult to describe him and his system of thought since he doesn't really have one. I will attempt to do so only for the sake of the reader, not that it will be totally accurate since it will still be a label which he would probably himself disagree with. He's part philospher, guru, social commentator, and ironically-an anti-guru.
He seems to be a self realized man. His main attitude about spirituality is that of pointing out the traps of all these spiritual systems and the gimmicks, money making, scamish guru businesses that have existed over time. In short, pointing out the stranglehold that society can create in an individual who has been sucked into the system of always trying to fix yourself, change, improve or naively following a false spiritual teaching only to become more confused than when you started. His books do a lot of bashing. He's not a gentle, passive kind of guy, he's more a negator of man made concepts and their many traps. Mostly he's tearing down ideologies not creating them.
Most of what he says makes for stimulating contemplation. You may not agree with it at first, but he plants a seed in you that germinates later, and makes you question. He even can come across a bit repulsive at first because he's so on the attack always.
UG Krishnamurti is not to be confused with the famous J. Krishnamurti who UG personally knew and criticizes because he felt that although J. Krishnamurti kept claiming the "no guru is necessary" philosophy, UG. felt that he was being hypocritical since his teachings became a bit of a system that was very institutionalized and JK came out with dozens of books and got trapped in his own following, so U.G. Krishnamurti argues that JK. was in essence another self-inflated guru with a gimmicky system.
It's a bit difficult to get a direct positive outcome of U.G. Krishnamurti's teachings because most of the time he's on the negative, discarding mode, however in the discarding process, one can be forced to give up these gimmicks and sytems and learn to just BE once again. Function from a more natural state of BEING instead of DOING practices all the time and always projecting an idea of fixing yourself in the future-which ironically never arrives.
My slight gripe with UG. is that while I on the whole agree very much with what he is saying, there is a way to move in the direction of Self-Knowledge without falling into gimmicks and sytems that trap us. There have been a few very good teachers along the centuries that have warned seekers to investigate their true nature without falling prey to systems and concepts but also gave students more concrete pointers, which UG never really does. However, in his defense he is not claiming to be a Guru. With that said, I still find him to be a very interesting character for ripe seekers who can handle his very iconaclastic, irreverent style.
For "no-nonsense" type "seekers" that enjoy these types of teachings I recommend Nisargadatta Maharaj. His teachings are also very direct, especially the books of his talks that came out after I AM THAT, like 'Consciousness and the Absolute', 'Prior To Consciousness' and 'The Ultimate Medicine' to name just 3. Nisargadatta Maharaj while also being a annhilator of mind made concepts for the spiritual seeker, offers a slightly different tone that is direct yet a bit more practical than UG. He also taught seekers to tenaciously avoid sytems, gimmicks and the trap of creating a web of spiritual concepts that trip you up in the end. He also never quotes from any scriptures or parroted anybody and encouraged you to do the same. However, he did teach that after all the discarding of concepts one can come to the place of Self-Knowledge, so he does have a bit of a "teaching" however it comes more from rigorous self-investigation, not a system.
