Book Description
The First Persian Gulf War.
A young, highly specialized Reconnaissance Marine confronts the fury of combat during a clandestine incursion into occupied Kuwait to search for a horrifying biological warfare agent.
An Israeli Defense Forces Colonel unjustly associated with the massacre of Palestinians is critically wounded as a result of a Scud strike on Tel Aviv.
A Saudi millionaire turned Muslim extremist has sworn to expel the Americans from the Kingdom after the Saudi Government shuns his own "Arab Solution" to the crisis.
Fate, technology, and loyalty bring their paths together in a daring Israeli military operation deep within the forbidden heart of Islam. A deadly lesson in the meaning of honor that could destroy the fragile coalition and turn the tide of war against the United States.
Customer Reviews:
Great story, written by one who has been there........2006-08-15
Chris Harvey is able to tell such a gripping story because he has actually "been there, done that." What many readers may not realize is that the missions conducted by the Marine Recon team in the story are based in a large part on actual events, hence the level of detail given. I've personally served with Chris, who after a hiatus of several years rejoined the military, and is now (as of 2006) a Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. He is back where he belongs, in a Recon Platoon. Having served as his Platoon Sergeant, I can vouch that Chris is the real deal.
I think what impressed me more than the events in the story surrounding the Recon team, was the sheer level of detail given into the events that took place in Israel and Saudi Arabia during the First Gulf War. America was collectively glued to the television set during the war, but how many really understood what was going on? Seeing the sheer terror Israel suffered during the relentless SCUD attacks, and the utterly powerless feeling of not being able to retaliate because their hands were tied by the U.N. puts into perspective the more recent events that have taken place in Israel.
One key character in the story, though called by a different name, is clearly meant to represent Osama bin Laden. This shows a lot of foresight on Chris' part, given that he first wrote The Kirya Solution back in 1993.
Without giving away any plot spoilers, suffice it to say that in the end you have a book full of diverse and intriguing characters, with a story that while fiction is still fact-based in many ways. Overall a gripping story that puts events of both Gulf Wars into perspective.
Awesome.......2004-05-19
A fantastic read. Chris draws you into his world. You can actually smell the gunpowder in some scenes. Definitely worth picking up!
Every country needs it's heroes.......2004-03-31
From exhilaration to heartbreak, fear to excitement to pride, The Kirya Solution has it all. The story is not just the journey of one man, one hero, it is the story of many heroes and the connection they all have to the lead character. Without any prior military knowledge, I found myself pulled into a completely different world. The author's recollections painted a vivid picture of the hostile world around him allowing the reader insight into one man's journey to be the best of the best. I am on the edge of my seat for the next installment and I am adding Christopher Harvey to my list of 'must read' authors.
